  1. None, everyone knows Pontiacs are better than Chevy's!

  4. Seems like an ambitious undertaking...little concerning the "Pontiacs" he quotes are G5, G6 and Vibe...
  5. Or Chevy could just stop selling trucks and competing with GMC. General Motors Corp trucks could be paired with any other GM brand that wants to sell trucks. Cars and cross-overs for the other brands -- trucks to GMC. Done.
  6. Stop thinking Scion and start thinking Mini (image not small cars). Mini has a far better image to emulate than Scion.
  7. A barn find the world could have done without. Yuck.
  8. Link to Article US directs GM to prep for bankruptcy filing-NY Times Sun Apr 12, 2009 11:08pm EDT WASHINGTON, April 12 (Reuters ) - The U.S. Treasury Department is directing General Motors (GM.N) to lay the groundwork for a bankruptcy filing by June 1, even though the automaker has publicly stated it could reorganize outside of court, The New York Times reported on Sunday. GM is operating under emergency U.S. government loans. It has been told by the Obama administration's task force overseeing its bailout that it must cut costs and reduce its debts in order to continue to receive aid. The White House-appointed autos task force has given GM 60 days to come up with a restructuring plan and it is trying to determine whether the automaker can be a viable company. Quoting sources who had been briefed on the GM plans, the Times said the goal was to prepare for a fast "surgical" bankruptcy. The newspaper said preparations are aimed at assuring a GM bankruptcy filing is ready if the company is unable to reach agreement with bondholders to exchange roughly $28 billion in debt into equity in GM and with the United Automobile Workers union. A plan under consideration would create a new company that would buy the "good" assets of GM after the carmaker files for bankruptcy, the Times said. Less desirable assets, including unwanted brands, factories and health care obligations, would be left in the old company, which could be liquidated over several years, according to the paper. Treasury officials are examining one potential outcome in which the viable GM enters and exits bankruptcy protection in as little as two weeks, using $5 billion to $7 billion in federal financing, a person briefed on the matter told the Times. The Times sources declined to be identified because they were not authorized to discuss the process. Both GM and Treasury Department officials declined to comment, the newspaper said. Last week, GM's chief executive said the automaker wanted to restructure out of court, but also preparing for a bankruptcy filing.

  11. I like the Equinox styling better. I find all of the exterior treatment odd...maybe it'll look better in person.
  12. While GMC's new-for-2010 Terrain crossover may be all but identical to Chevrolet's Equinox, one look at this bluff-faced polarizing design will tell you that badge-engineering wasn't part of the program at General Motors. Yes, both vehicles share the same platform, the same engine choices and even the same suspension calibrations, but the in-your-face look here is likely to inspire love-it-or-hate-it reactions. We'll let you decide on which side of the fence you sit, with one caveat: It is often the case that certain cars look better in the metal than on screen or in photographs. We were invited to GM's Design Dome for a media backgrounder, and after being in-and-around the vehicle, we profess that we can't make the same case. Controversial aesthetics aside, the 2010 Terrain looks to have the goods, including a new 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine on the base model that delivers 182 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque. Like its Chevy stablemate, this model is tipped to deliver 30 miles-per-gallon on the highway. The four-banger features noise-canceling technology to mute undesirable sound characteristics and a driver-selectable Eco button that remaps the throttle responses, shift patterns, and torque converter lockup speed to improve fuel economy. The more powerful engine choice is a 3.0-liter direct-injection V6 engine that develops a healthy 264 horsepower and 222 pound-feet of torque. GM says six-cylinder buyers can expect to achieve 17-mpg city and 24 on the highway. Interestingly, the noise-canceling circuitry is only included on the Terrains equipped with the 2.4-liter. Models are available in front- or all-wheel drive trim, and a six-speed automatic is the transmission no matter what engine (or how many driven wheels) you choose. This model is effectively a Pontiac Torrent replacement (that model is going away as GM figures out what to do with its affordable performance brand), albeit one made for GMC's truck-oriented audience. As such, it has a much more masculine exterior, with its triple-element grille, U-pattern hood, massive squared-off fenders, and a markedly different greenhouse. To our eyes, the Terrain's front-end looks almost out-of-scale with its footprint, or perhaps rather like some of the fuel-cell or hybrid conversions we've seen, in part because the front is so bluff and the lower blacked-out air dam rides rather close to terra firma for aerodynamic reasons. The rear-end is decidedly less controversial and nearly minivan-like, with Toyota Sienna-like taillamp clusters and paint-by-numbers "ruggedizing" cues. The interior is leaps and bounds ahead of the outgoing Equinox/Torrent pairing, with tons of available options including a dual-screen rear entertainment, Bluetooth, a rear-backup camera, and a power liftgate that adjusts for low garage clearances. In general, the dashboard is nicely laid out (though that center stack looks a bit button-happy) and we found plenty of room up front to get comfortable while still leaving enough space for kids and adults sitting behind us. One area of obvious cost-cutting on the model we were shown was that the nice contrasting red door panel stitching up front is not repeated for rear-seat passengers, although it is present on all seats. GMC, as you will recall, only recently made its first foray into the crossover market with its Lambda-platform Acadia three-row CUV, and this new model figures to be the division's entry level model when it debuts in dealers in late Summer. GM has yet to announce pricing, but we expect it to be priced nominally higher than its Chevrolet counterpart. Autoblog Link to C&D Article

  15. Link to Article U.S. autos task force rejects GM, Chrysler plans Reuters WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The Obama administration autos task force on Monday rejected the turnaround plans of General Motors Corp and Chrysler LLC and warned both could be put through bankruptcy to slash debts. The announcement by the White House autos panel headed by former investment banker Steve Rattner marked a stunning reversal for management at both automakers and for GM investors and creditors who had bet on a softer line. "We have unfortunately concluded that neither plan submitted by either company represents viability and therefore does not warrant the substantial additional investments that they requested," said a senior administration official, who asked not to be named. Instead of granting GM's request for up to $30 billion in loans, the administration only pledged to fund GM's operations for the next 60 days while the top U.S. automaker develops an even more sweeping restructuring plan under new leadership. GM CEO Rick Wagoner, who met on Friday with the task force, was forced out on Sunday at the request of Rattner, an official said. U.S. officials said plans were also underway to replace most of GM's directors in the coming months. (Reporting by Kevin Krolicki and John Crawley; Editing by Lincoln Feast)
  16. Most interesting line: "An official said a majority of the GM board was expected to step down."
  17. Flybrian ? Noticed most of the other "Forum led by" text had been updated in other places, but the Lounge appears to be a straggler...
  18. The most recent patch to 3.0.8 seems to have improved the performance a little bit.

  20. Correct, I only use it 6 or 7 times a year. I bought it to get a 32ft ladder (16-17ft collapsed) home from Home Depot years ago. I use it move the ladder around sometimes and it was popular when I helped my friend re-sheetrock the inside of a few rooms in his house and he went with the 12ft long sheets, hauled the 16ft beams for his shed, etc etc. The 100 bucks it cost has been worth the price. I also use it sometimes to haul a canoe on the roof of the truck and extend over the bed so I can put camping stuff in the bed. Rack can be adjusted to either extend the bed or line up roof height. My truck is 18-18.5 ft long (1500, x-cab, 6.5ft bed), so I agree having all that length back there is less than ideal! But it's easier than borrowing my friend's car trailer when I want to haul long items...though if I ever upgrade to a GMT-900, the overhead racks that are removable in the bed rail system are on my list of accessories to investigate (as is the integrated trailer brake controller).
  21. I have a bed extender that mounts to my trailer hitch for that...it's pretty handy. Link Looks like this:
