Somebody tell Bob to get the 3.6 in the Lucerne....now!!
-
lexus can kiss my touche
-
The sheet metal doesn't even look different...so are they the exact same friggin' car??
-
It's alive because you just wrote that last reply.
-
It's a $25k 2 seat convertible that goes 0-60 in 5.6 seconds and looks better and outperforms a car that costs twice as much, but the trunk is too small!!! Unbelieveable!! In one part of the article, they say that ALL roadsters are toys, but then when they compare the Solstice to the boxster......the story changes. The boxster becomes "a reasonable daily driver" and the Solstice becomes "purely a toy". The porsche didn't "win" anything. NOTHING. But they stated that "the precise-driving porsche was clearly their favorite". The morons out there who don't believe that there is bias against anything AMERICAN in the automotive press, you're dead wrong.....Pontiac has knocked one out of the park. They've raised the bar in so many areas with this car, it should be embarassing for the other makes. GM can't even get credit for the fantastic engine in the Solstice. In C&D's review of the engine, they point out how beefed up the parts of this engine are and how powerful it is at 260 hp. Then out of nowhere they comment that "this isn't a bad first effort for GM, considering VW's similar direct-injection turbo makes 200 hp". Whatever.....
-
okay. So why don't they refer to the G6 in the same way? do you think that GM is trying to put Saturn out there as competition directly for the european brands or do is this something the press or others are doing?
-
In the October Car and Driver 2007 New Cars issue, the write up on the GMC Acadia mentioned that it "uses the so-called high-feature 3.6 liter V-6, making 267 horsepower". They hate giving GM credit for having excellent engines. The Acadia looked great though.

I want to know why they keep referring to the Aura as a german wannbe of sorts. The only thing that looks european on that car is the stupid little light on the side of the front fender. It's the same chasis as the Pontiac G6, right? I've never seen the G6 mentioned as a european anything...
-
October Car & Driver pitted the Solstice and the Boxer against one another and the picture of the two side by side is worth a thousand words. That Pontiac is HOT. It makes the porsche look small, skinny, and old. The writers tried really hard to sell readers on the Boxster, making many excuses for the huge price difference and quietly admitted the shortcomings of the boxster while screaming about any imperfections about the Solstice......it's kind of funny.... I can't get over the picture....I would have posted it, but I can't find it on their website. The Pontiac BLOWS the porsche away in the looks catagory and the GXP is smokin' hot for $25k....

I don't question the honesty of someone reading a db meter and I don't believe anything CR puts out. I'm beginning not to believe anything MT or C&D write. Your website it called "The Truth about Cars" and that's misleading because one glance at that site and I see a bias against American cars. Agreed. But you're talking out of both sides of your mouth when you say "the subjective truth about cars" It's not my victory. It's Buicks. My eyes and ears tell me that Buick kicked lexus in the nuts and has a better car in the Lucerne. I found a new article in C&D interesting. It was on the new lexus LS. They stated that you can hear the V8 when you stomp on it. I guess their $70k flagship isn't as quite as their camry knockoff es350....go figure...
-
That says it all. Writing reviews for "The Truth About Cars" but being subjective is a contradiction......especially when you admit you're subjective and are proven wrong about what you've reported. You titled this Win Lose Draw, You decide. Ok, Buick wins. (even with a gear shift knob that didn't pass your wiggle test) :AH-HA_wink:
-
This is a really good point....that is hard to argue with, because it's so true.
-
I didn't read the article and I'm not going to. I know what it says. The same thing most car mags say about AMERICAN cars. Some folks just don't understand that the Impala does EXACTLY what it is designed to do and it does it very well. Anybody who thinks a camry is better because it has more gears is dumber than the coffee can exhaust on the car they drive. The Impala is a relatively inexpensive, good looking, efficient, mid size car. And Japan wouldn't know how to build a toaster if it wasn't for AMERICA.

I think what eveyone is really confused about here, is the fact that GM is providing GMC with yet another vehicle, while BUICK is sitting quitely in the corner waiting for the ENCLAVE and RWD Lucerne. I like the GMC brand too, but I question their relevance anymore, in light of the fact that all of their vehicles are rebadged somethings. That whole "upscale" comment struck me as weird. I look at BUICK as being more 'upscale' than GMC... Face it. GM is stuffing products in the GMC showroom and starving Buick. That pisses me off.
-
I think the guys from lexus would disagree with that. Especially when you compare specific vehicles, such as the Lucerne against ...say the camry...I mean the es350. They are similar in size and price...and frankly the Lucerne has more to offer. The Lucerne wouldn't be a blip on the screen of the LS, because they're very different vehicles that are separated by $25,000 or more.
-
I wouldn't consider owning a camry, I mean a lexus, whether it's quiter than a Lucerne at WOT or not. It doesn't meet my definition of a great looking car..plus it's foreign. I like American luxury. Hopefully the next generation Lucerne will meet everyone's 'individual' definition of 'quiet tuned' and we can all be happy. :AH-HA_wink:

Come on Man! A lexus copy?? I can see hints of that Infinity thingy...and maybe some of that porche cayanne thing, but I don't see any lexus. Overall I think the Enclave is very original....you really don't?
-
I love the Enclave and I hate all minivans for some reason. They're practical and most of them drive nicely, but I just hate them. I walked past a Terraza recently and thought it looked upscale. I glanced inside and everything appeared to be very high quality and good looking. For those who have small kids and don't care about being seen in a minivan, there is no substitue. The Enclave won't do what a minivan will do, but thankfully it doesn't look like a minivan. So long Terraza!

I know, but isn't there talk now about Chevy getting a version too? The GMC thing is just wearing me out. Got ya. That is a good question then...is there anyway to find out if the G platform can accept the 6 speed?
-
I have no idea if they're having sales problems. My comment was referring to the article on this site titled "Lacrossed Out". The link from that post eluded to the Lacrosse sales numbers being off...but I don't know for sure. The point of my comment is that I don't like GM having to make 17 (I'm exaggerating) different rebadged models off of one vehicle, while there are models that need the attention they're pouring into that effort. I hear you. However my 1993 Chevrolet Silverado, that I bought new, has a mere 137,000 miles and nothing but fluid and filter changes done to the trans. What a great unit. What you're talking about is a scary thought, but so is purchasing a 4 speed and within 6 months a 6 speed is released and your value drops. I don't have to have a 6 spd, I just don't want to make a bad decision, ya know?
-
The real POS is microsoft....and more specifically windows. Is there anyone here running LINUX? I guess windows XP being loaded on EVERY single PC being sold in creation is not enough. Microsoft has determined that my 4 year old PC doesn' have a genuine copy of windows...and for a cool $100 they can fix me right up. What a croc of sheet.

1. Got ya, and thank goodness, cause it's beautiful and the others are really just ok... but who needs product right now more out of those three? Especially when you factor in the fact that death is upon 3 of the 5 models in production right now. I just wish they would stop making re-badged vehicles for GMC and focus on getting really unique product out there for Buick...ya know? 2. Yeah, and it's like they say to themselves....we have to make at least three different versions of the same vehicle or we'll implode or something. I know it all has to do with the bottom line and they know more than I, but it seems like their focus is so scattered.. 3. I know what they 'say' about GMC, but I do not beieve that if GMC went away those people would simply shift their business to Ford or Dodge. Why not just offer more varieties of Chevrolet? I'm not advocating GMC going away, but when they're getting product upon product, it's all re-badged Chevys, and there are divisions that need the effort they're pouring into GMC, it makes me mad. There isn't 1 unique GMC model. With all that said, I was TOTALLY against Olds dying. I hated that, but I'd of rather seen them kill GMC than Olds. 4. Agreed. But if Lacrosse is having the trouble I've been reading that they're having, maybe they need to get off their arses and quit worrying about if they can re-do the front end of the uplander so GMC can have a mini-van. You know what I mean? 5. Is the Lucerne the W platform? I thought that is what the Lacrosse was on.?? The reason I ask is because I'd like to get a Lucerne this year (2006 or 2007), but if there's a chance '08 would have the 6 spd, I'll be extremely bummed to have purchased the 4 spd...
-
I think they're not on this because they're too busy making 17 different rebadged vehicles for the lambda platform. That pisses me off.
-
Okay....I'm okay with Buick having only 3-4 models, but I still can't figure out the following: 1. Why it's taking so long for the Enclave to come out when the Saturn and GMC version have already been released? 2. Why is there a GMC version of the Enclave at all? 3. What is the point of GMC? 4. Why is it going to take until 2010 for the new Lucerne and Lacrosse??? 5. Does anyone think that the '08 version of the Lucerne will have the 6 speed auto that the '08 Enclave will have? Even in the front drive version???
