[post="59072"][/post] And tell me again why the UAW is crying... this should outrage everyone that an uneducated workforce gets paid and will retire better than those who worked hard for their skills and earned there position. "Um... yes sir boss... I am quiting my crappily paid engineering job to go work on the line... it pays SOOO much better!"
-
So does Texas.

Obviously I missed the previous fault in your plan. It was so glaringly obivious... it is you... do you realize that I read your website "General Watch." Seriously, the "editorials" which are obviously only your own rantings from here sound like delusions. As for your comment on selling cars... I've sold them... my brother sold them. The car dealing game is nothing like Wall Street nor running a corporation. A general manager at a dealership deals at most with qoutas, incentives, and high turnover. Don't get me started on selling cars... It took a damn good college education for me to realize that 'the good ol' days' have long since past. As long as you keep thinking that those Buicks and Chevy's you sell are the best vehicles on the market you are living in the days long since past. The real truth is that America could care less about brands for the most part. And that's the way it should be. No one should be forced to buy a product they don't want simply because of a name. If you want the manufacturer you like to sell products you want... don't buy crap from them you don't want. Period. Your plan revolves around selling cars to GM employees and the dealer body. Firing Rick Wagoner and shuffling upper management would create negative buzz in the company and further reduce investor confidence while the 'new guys' get used to the job. If you really want to help GM quite SELLING cars and start catering to what the customer REALLY WANTS. If you find your customers can't find anything in the GM fold... go sell Volvos. The point is, don't make GM's problem so elementary. The problem is bigger than "BIG RED RICK," the problem is a corporate society that got complacent, took to long to embrace advances in technology that wouldv'e allowed for globalization decades ago, and offered and fostered a since of invincibility.

WHEN WILL BUCK MAN ANSWER MY QUESTIONS? Again, you'd gain credability if you'd answer some questions!
-
Where is globalization in your plan? When do we talk about trimming model lines and getting rid of overlap? When do we talk about getting rid of unsuccesful cars and names? How about: Styling houses--should there be regional design or should there be one GM design house? Engineering--can further advances in process improvment increase efficiency of existing workforce and eleminate further jobs? Closing old plants--when can GM get rid of plants that are obviously outside a profitiable business case? Union--when will GM be able to write checks with out Ron Gettlefinger having to sign them? How will further benefits for retirees in the future be handled? Competition--How will GM improving benchmarking and market research? Do the current processes go far enough? Who will make those decisions when and where? Will it be global or regional? Emerging markets--Asia is booming what about Africa or even Russia... when will GM penetrate and start selling vehicles there? Will those units come from here or there or anywhere... You see... Marketing is not THE problem. Managing a global EMPIRE is more than selling metal. Running a business is nowhere near the same as retail sales. Futhermore, general managers of dealerships rarely if ever traffic in political and social matters that affect countries and for that matter foreign policy. I doubt if ever your decisions as a GM at your dealership have affected someone in Korea. When if ever did some sales make you an expert? I am not an expert and gladdly admit to it. The fact is, it is easy to armchair quarterback. Tracinda did some of the same things that you advocate. A hostile takeover, some marketing led by the management and workforce... that turned out so well that Diamler bought them. Even experienced and informed people that actually get into board rooms and meet with more than one executive and has the purchasing power to back up his assertions makes mistakes. GM has and will continue to globalize their efforts and worrying about a workforce buying its product is simply not keeping their collective eye on the ball. Forcing people whether they are or aren't an employee to buy a product they really didn't want only because of the deal or the marketing will have long term affects and bread a sub culture similar to Wal-Mart. "I won't shop there so long as I live because it is just too cheap and they really have nothing I want." I encourage everyone if they truly want GM to succeed to buy what is right and desirable to you personally. In the end... a vote with your dollar is more important and effective in changing product at GM than stupid bullit points aimed at "low hanging fruit."

I am calling GM the winner for the first time EVER!!!!

While I agree about Tundra sales being mediocre now... Toyota must be really egotistical because they now have a total of 350,000 Tundra capacity with 200k in San Antonio alone. They plan on building the HD Tundra in San Antonio. I wouldn't count the Tundra out but, my hopes aren't really high either. Mark my words though... Toyota's new Tundra WILL BE COMPETITIVE in all respects... desirable?! Questionable!
-
Maybe... just maybe... they feel the wind changing with the release of the new Camry and have decided to readjust the product. Don't get me wrong, the product they showed to the press was probably impressive but, maybe GM finally thinks its own product isn't strong enough! With Zeta in some form on and the lambda's being pushed ahead along with the trucks... I am REALLY not that worried about marginal product like the out of place Malibu/G6--Epsillon II.
-
Checking out a new Malibu/Aura in Europe in warmer weather testing. The eternal footman is Maximum Bob right? The place was???
-
Oh dear... I hope the overhangs are an exageration... the proportions make this car look like a 90's model. Please say it in no way shape or form is close...
-
Call me crazy but, I really like this thing! It has a pretty cool interior design. Hopefully this is a sign of what GM thinks automotive designs should look like. Notice all of the indirect ambient lighting?! This design just doesn't look like something GM would do... an perhaps that is what I find so cool about it!

I cannot believe you posted that... Moded or not... SHAME ON YOU!!!!

GM will kill the three-row Trailblazer/Envoy
SingleStylish replied to avant1963's topic in General Motors
The only reason the EXT's got built was to make the business case for the SSr possible. The frames were the same and it made sense at the time to offer a third row TB. Everyone keeps making a case for the Lambda's but... let us not forget that if GM really did abandon the BOF midsizers (which they aren't nor will they) they would be the only manufacturer this side of Koreans that didn't have one. Case and point... 4runner... -
Maybe I am out of touch but if there were a H on the steering wheel for Hyundai it wouldn't be a stretch of the imagination. This looks like a cheep Asian interior where the use of orogami reduces the appearance of otherwise low cost materials. The last Avalon and dare I say two generations ago, Camry, were both better in terms of interior build quality in fact... dare I say... better in exterior build quality and materials. My brother-in-law has a brand new Camry and I was appalled at the crappy materials and build quality. I went to replace a rear light for him and low and behold was this nasty rat fur cloth. No access cover for the lamps no... it had rental quality fabric flaps that didn't even cover the holes in the trunk... All of the new Toyota's glitter in pictures but, fail when seen in person. I am no fan of any currently for sale GM interior or for that matter any domestic. But, again... at least the domestics have tradiontal euro/american interiors. (ALL CURRENT INTERIORS NOT DOMESTIC INTERIORS FROM 2003 AND BEFORE)
-
Am I the only one that finds the interior unappealing? It looks cheap. None of that silver plastic is any different that anything you'd find in a Mercury, Chrysler, or even a Buick. GM's interiors as of late may have a measure of cheapness but at least the layout and shapes are unoffensive. This car just looks too Asian for it to get my vote.

American Honda Records Best-Ever November Sales Ridgeline posts best month ever; record sales of Pilot boost truck sales Total Honda and Acura November automobile sales increased 6.4 percent over last year to 105,860, and shattered the previous record of 98,075 set in 2002. Driven by November's 15.3 percent increase in Honda truck sales, American Honda's year-to-date sales continue on a record-setting pace of 1,329,672 cars and light trucks, increasing 6.2 percent over last year on a daily selling rate basis, putting the company in line for a 12th straight year of sales increases. Honda Division also broke records for the sixth consecutive month, posting record truck and total vehicle sales for the month of November of 44,261 and 91,978 units respectively. The revolutionary half-ton Ridgeline truck posted its best month ever with a record 5,243 units, while the Civic (Motor Trend's Car of the Year for 2006) continued to make gains with sales increasing 18 percent over last November. Pilot also posted record November sales of 12,040 units, a 9.8 percent increase over the same period last year. "The fact that our light-truck models continue to show strength in the face of uncertain gas prices, is a function of their class-leading fuel economy" said Richard Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. Increasing consumer awareness and industry accolades of Honda's innovative Ridgeline pickup contributed to its best-ever sales month. Honda's fleet of three hybrid models posted a 52.8 percent increase compared to last November at 2,083 units. The Honda Division's year-to-date sales grew 6.0 percent to 1,138,683 units, with Odyssey, Pilot and CR-V all showing year-to-date increases. Acura Division posted sales of 13,382 units with record November sales of the TL sports sedan of 6,134 units. RSX sales increased to 1,521, a 9.1 percent increase from last year for a fifth consecutive month of record sales. Year-to-date Acura sales are up 7.2 percent to 190,989.

Whatever interior that is, has the new GMC Denali steering wheel... interesting!!!
-
WOW... That Titan sure is beating down Ford and Toyota... with that 80k/year sales pace, Ford should be bankrupt in months!!! Congratulations Nissan, you truly have deserved all of the hype you've gotten!
-
How on earth does Toyota continue to sell the Camry at record pace??? It is just so damn ugly and there are just SOOOO many of them... who is buying them???
-
Interesting... the rear has a Daewoo emblem and the grill has a bowtie!
-
If '09 is right then this "concept" will be in design freeze and could change drastically in the next three years. The overall process after design freeze is three years. I sincerely hope they are showing a glossed up version of the '07/'08 model and not a pie-in-the-sky '09!

Five Reasons GM Won't Declare Bankruptcy
SingleStylish replied to BigPontiac's topic in General Motors
Still does not change the fact that owning stock does not mean you own the assets. Most SMART companies put the assets in a shell corporation or "holding" corporation that cannot be sued. The managing LLC of the assets usually has no assets at all and if sued gets a sheet of paper. In the event of a suit or takeover the company/partners/stakeholders don't lose the asset. Undoubtedly GM has an asset holding corporation and GM proper is just the managing corporation. In which case, the assets may or may not be sold with the controlling interest in the managing corporation. In the end... GM is worth more than the $12 billion stock price. Period. -
Looks no worse than this: or this: right on par with this: but, definitely better than this: I'd say all in all it isn't bad when it will be compared to this: Or even this is quite even: Again, what is the big deal were you expecting something luxury style with a econo-box? Maybe they should have benchmarked VW for a change right? Let's face it, cheap means cheap. The interior doesn't make me excited about Dodge but, it gets the job done for a volume product. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't buy it but the interior really isn't the deciding factor. Maybe y'all were look for something like this :P : or this:

WRONG! You own a majority of controlling interest but, you DO NOT OWN THE ASSETS! Do not confuse ASSETS with stock... two completely different things... GM in ASSETS is worth A HELLUVA LOT MORE than 12 billion. 12 billion would earn the right to sell or control those assets but nothing more. Period. GM would still benefit from the sale or your control. Not the owner of 51%, you would only get a dividend check assuming there would be some gain.
