  1. as an xray technologist i must say i worry about the radiation doses that frequent flyers may accumilate. they say oh its not much but uh who exactly inspects those machines and makes sure they are correctly calibrated? who does the quality assurance on them? we do it on our equipment once a week and have a physicist check the calibration and output levels anually...
  2. actually my buddy thats a deputy says the tahoe k9 units in the ACSD get around the same if not better mileage as the crown vics.
  3. Chevy Dealer Has 13 Caprice PPVs for Public Sale Like the rest of humanity, car enthusiasts are driven wild by cars they can’t have. So whether you’re talking about the ricers who spend a small fortune to import legitimate JDM Nissan Skylines, or millionaire Mopar fans who drop a million bucks on a bonafide HEMI ‘Cuda, people have proven that they are willing to pay a premium to own a car that almost nobody else has. But there are some cars that the public is just not supposed to get, like the 2012 Chevy Caprice PPV. This vehicle is for sale to police departments only. But thanks to a loophole in the contract with GM, a Maryland car dealership has 13 of these Australian-built police vehicles for sale, reports Jalopnik. The 2012 Chevy Caprice PPV, as you no doubt already know, is GM’s ticket back into the lucrative police service vehicle market. GM long ago abandoned this market to the nigh-indomitable Ford Crown Victoria, which finally ends production this year after two decades of sales dominance. But the Caprice PPV, unlike the Crown Vic, is a vehicle unavailable for purchase in any form through a normal GM dealership. Or at least that is the way it is supposed to be. But thanks to a loophole in GM’s contract that does not stipulate that sales are only for police departments, Criswell Chevy of Gaithersberg, Maryland has 13 Caprices for sale on its lot. Listed between $31,000 and $37,000, the dealership is hawking these as similar to the discontinued Pontiac G8 sports sedan. And why not? The two vehicles are not all that different. However, GM has not yet announced plans to return to producing such a vehicle, despite the collective outcry of car enthusiasts who desire a competitive American sports sedan. GM is now aware of this loophole, so don’t expect to waltz into any Chevy dealership and just buy a Caprice. But the few lucky souls who stumble upon this deal, and have the funds to make it happen, will be pleasantly surprised at the performance vehicle they’ve just picked up. http://www.lsxtv.com/news/chevy-dealer-has-13-caprice-ppvs-for-public-sale/?fb_comment_id=fbc_10150240005794752_17221729_10150240008804752#f3b77dacdd8b49 wonder what colors they have...
  4. SCHP has had some tough luck with the shift linkages in the chargers but they mostly use them over the crown vics now. anderson county however has gotten a dozen 2011 vics in this year and so they are probably good for a year or two. my buddy thats a SD told me that outside of the crown vics the tahoes are next in line for purchasing especially for the k9 units. there are talks around the department though of getting a taurus, charger, and caprice eval car for replacements.
  5. i so hope you get to evaluate a caprice...
  6. amazing... did you just compare a $120k car to a 1.2 million dollar car? shall we stack it up against the Bugatti Veyron while we are at it?
  7. i remember reading an article in a rag where they were running three 09 vettes. Z51 optioned one, a Z06, and the ZR1. out of the three all drivers agreed that the Z06 was the broncho of the trio. no nanny systems to essentially speak of, it was the one that would show you just how good or how bad you sucked as a driver. face it, cars are becoming more like aircraft. from the wood and wire biplanes of WWI, to the alloys and hydrolic assists of WWII, to the computerized fly by wire systems that make multiple corrective assists and functions of the F22.

  21. I wonder how long it will take for the negative PR wheels to start turning on this one... BARKHAMSTED, Conn. -- Fire officials suspect an electric hybrid car may have sparked an overnight blaze in a garage in Barkhamsted on Center Hill Road. Homeowner Storm Connors and his wife, Dee, said they awoke to the sound of a smoke alarm around 4 a.m. The couple said they have lived in the home for nearly 40 years. They built it and raised their children there, so when the flames took over their attached garage Thursday morning, burning it down to its beams, the couple started to panic. They said they were worried they were going to lose their home and the memories inside. "I walked outside and looked in the garage door and it was flaming," Dee Connors said. "I grabbed a pocketbook so I'd have a cellphone and a driver's license and a jacket and a pair of slacks. I had no shoes, my feet were freezing." Within minutes of the 911 call reporting the fire, nearly 50 firefighters from surrounding communities headed to the scene. The Connors family said that response and the fact there was a firewall built between the home and the garage saved their home. After the fire was extinguished, the couple invited Eyewitness News into the home to see how effective the firewall was. Even the coats in a closet near the fire were unscathed -- not even blackened by smoke. Now investigators with the state fire marshal's office and the couple's insurance company are looking into what exactly in the garage sparked the fire. Officials said they can't rule out that the couple's brand new Chevy Volt hybrid had something to do with the blaze. The fire is under investigation. http://www.wfsb.com/news/27541598/detail.html
