  1. I've never driven a Porsche or even ridden in one. Maybe that's why I'm completely indifferent to them. The looks of Porsches have never done anything to me.
  2. Buick owners are a feisty lot. It was just a couple of weeks ago that the elder gentleman with the LaCrosse wouldn't give it up to a carjacker.
  3. It's a very good, positive article, and the pictures also make the vehicle look good. Whenever it arrives for the smaller engines, the six-speed automatic should help acceleration and mileage. When that comes out, I'll be interested in a GMT900.
  4. About as exciting as a Spring Edition.

    Supra

I would love for there to be a new somewhat affordable Supra. There is a market for $40K sports cars, above the 300Z but below the Corvette, and sportier than the Infiniti G35 Coupe. But I don't care for any of these renderings. The red one on top is perhaps the best of a lackluster bunch, but it comes across as being derivative of the 300Z.
  6. A few weeks ago, I made the comment of the interior of the LaCrosse being fitting for a rental car, and many people took offense to it. It's not that I think the LaCrosse is a bad car--it's just doesn't really excel in any one area and does not come across as aspirational. Perhaps I expect too much. It would be an easy enough car to live with day in and day out, and for the money it is a good buy. But a few upgrades could make it a great car.
  7. GMC should have kept the amber signals in the rear for a little more differentiation from Chevies. I don't know why they made the Yukon so soft looking. The look is anti-Terradyne.

    The Stalk

I don't care for the new Mercedes and BMW turn signals. Using it for a lane change requires one tap to turn on and another to turn off. I imagine most people will say just heck with it and not use it for lane changes. I don't like Honda's twisting motion for the wiper stalk on the right side. It requires you to take your hand off the wheel. Same goes for GM's ubiqui-stalk. As for the stubby cruise control stalk at the 4 o'clock position in Toyota vehicles, it works very well. The mini-stalk on the upper right side of Mercedeses is also very good and intuitive. Headlight controls on the dash require a slightly longer reach, but the controls can be lighted. I also agree that the foglight control on the Mercedes is very good. Twisting action for the headlights on the left stalk is not a bother because you generally use it once to turn on and once to turn off if it is not set on auto. Because so many of GM's vehicles still have a column shifter, GM is heavy into the single stalk. It has too many compromises on it.
  9. It has an overly overt Japanese look, so it's good it's staying over there. The 2tB is much more pleasing to the eye.
  10. Most current GM products are pretty lackluster. I would think that the Cobalt, HHR, and Solstice have some youth appeal, but not much else.
  11. Welcome back trinacriabob. Your presence was missed here. Christmas was quiet for me. I spent the day with friends. The excitement will come for me in 10 days at the L.A. Auto Show.

    The Stalk

I like having two stalks: headlights/turn signal on the left, wipers on the right. Cruise control buttons should be on the steering wheel. I don't like having headlight controls on the dash. The wiper controls should not be twist, but up and down.

    Car Spotting

Surely you are talking about the flat opal white and not the luscious pearl white? I stayed in today, but yesterday I saw a Lotus Elise.
  14. Here's someone's attempt at putting proper tailfins on a '77 Sedan de Ville: Classy! You can never have too many spare tires.
  15. Styling-wise, I liked the last one better. This design is charmless, like an overgrown Aerio.
  16. I don't like this thing, but it will be a hit.
  17. It's not tough to be hard on the Ranger or Freestar. The Jag X-Type never should have been built.
  18. From pearl white to Kermit green? There are some awfully taste-challenged people in Florida.
  19. The gargantuan Eldorados of the '70's look like something is missing unless the longhorns are mounted in the front. My favorite Eldorados are the '79 to '85. Not too big and not too small. This '85 Biarritz supposedly has only 12K miles and is for sale for $13,500:
  20. The rear window doesn't quite look like the Thunderbird's, but it wouldn't be a Beretta because those have the pillar-mounted door handles.
  21. It's a matter of time before it happens in this country, with or without our knowledge.
  22. Coolness. Pretty creative.
  23. Looks a lot better than in those other pics.
  24. It's disappointing to read about the Civic Hybrid. I have some fleeting interest in it because it's one of the three hybrids that can be driven in California's carpool lanes by solo drivers. The number of hybrids with this privilege will be limited to 75,000, and that number will probably be met within a few months. One risk about getting a hybrid is that the Department of Transportation can restrict them from the carpool lanes once breakdown conditions start to occur.
  25. The Lucerne is ok, not anything that wows you, but respectable. The interior of the G6 is pretty decent for the price. Everything about this car is much better than the Malibu. As for the Solstice, there are so many things that can be easily overlooked by the low price of the car.
