Thanks for asking, Satty. And 68 - did I mention it's a 427, tri-power 4spd car Anyway, I haven't done too much since the weather got too cold to hold tools comfortably. I've got the rear of the car stripped of all the chrome/lights/trim/etc. and the old, rusted tank is long gone. I've been mostly acquiring parts. So far I have: a date-correct 427/435 block, heads, and complete tri-power setup a transistorized distributor front and rear bumpers AM/FM radio reconditioned console trim plate (it's a one year design and therefore not repro'd by the aftermarket) rear taillight lenses and housings gas tank and associated hardware Probably next month I'm going to start looking for a Gantry crane, so I can attach a chain hoist to it and lift the body up to replace the body mounts and make sure the previous owner did a good job restoring the frame. Then I can send the body out to be media blasted and, if necessary, have the body work done (both my father and I are allergic to fiberglass, and it can be dangerous to work with). I guess my rough goal for this coming year is to have the body ready for primer by the end of summer '07, so I can spend the winter months assembling the engine and getting it running.

Even a half baked attempt at market research would reveal that Europeans don't care at all for cars designed for American roads. European roads are by and large narrower and smoother than even our freshly paved streets. Therefore a small, packaging-efficient, fuel efficient vehicle with an extremely tight suspension would be what the doctor ordered. The Escalade, SRX, and H3 don't really fit those categories. They are too big, floaty, and inefficient for European consumption.

I guess we found out what Toyota was doing when they delayed the Tundra launch. Still, GM has never been shy about getting into a horsepower race with anyone, and I don't expect them to play second fiddle to the Tundra (or anyone else) for very long. -
Selling the Escalade and the Hummer in Europe is downright stupid, even if they did have diesels. Selling the SRX there is only marginally less so.

I hope there's a better aftermarket for that car than there is for the F-85 Cutlass of the same vintage. I once contemplated a '63 Cutty vert with rusted out quarters, but gave up on it when I found there was no replacement panels available for it at all. If you get this Tempest, give it the restoration it deserves, because it its panels start to go, you might not be able to do anything about it. There are plenty of $500 mid-80s Camries out there that deserve to have their bodies rotted out from salt, plowed throw snowbanks, and slid into parking lot light poles. Use one of those instead.

I would say that most, if not all of those deficiencies you mention are remedied or are in the process of being remedied. Quality is obviously on the increase. As for production inefficiencies, GM now has some of the most advanced, efficient plants of any manufacturer. The current regime is successfully tackling the "shortsighted product development" problem - look to the cooperation between Holden, GMNA, GME, and GMDAT for evidence of that. GM is working towards being a lean, efficient, global company capable of producing cars for all markets regardless of the point of manufacture.

Unfortunately, I think that car would have to be stripped entirely and sandblasted before you could figure out how doable it is. For instance, take the floors - if the majority of the floor is good with a few holes, you could get away with cutting out the bad metal and welding in patches. If it's got a lot of rot, you either have to fabricate new floor pans yourself, hope for a donor car, hope for the aftermarket to come through for this car, or maybe try to make something work from another car. You'd be better off looking for an incomplete project which can sometmes be a better deal - at least you'd know what you're getting, and some of the hard work might already be done.

This sounds good. The CTS grew to allow ample room for the arrival of the B series to go against the BMW 3. Hopefully the next B series is a better effort than the current reskinned 9-3. I'd even add to your scenario to say that eventually the Sigma cars could get absorbed into Zeta (cheaper, better platform = more profit) once the Holden and GMNA cars are using the newer version of Zeta. I'd like to see future iterations of Zeta support the dimensions required for a 7/S competitor, with the current short-wheelbase Zetas moving to Alpha, rather than dedicate a separate platform for it.

As everyone alluded to before me, people just have different interests and priorities, none of which in the grand scheme of things is any more significant than the other(s). Some people choose to not be in a relationship, to own an older car, or to not own their own place. For anyone who believes in life after death, that stuff all stays here once this life ends anyway. A loser is better defined by a mental state - one who would rather float through life expecting handouts even though their condition as a drain on society is, ultimately, self imposed.

I'm ready to vote for a woman, just not Hilary. I can't remember one thing off the top of my head that she's done for NYS since she's been here. I knew when she was elected Senator in 2000 that she was going to just take up space in the Senate and use it as a stepping stone to the White House. If Guiliani makes it as the top Republican, him vs. Hilary would make for an interesting race.

I voted yes. Technically, it has more than two seats and is less of a "purpose-built" car than a Porsche or Corvette, so by that definition it isn't a sports car. But because the definition of "sports car" is loose enough nowadays where people call 190hp V6 Mustangs sports cars, I think the Cobalt SS/SC deserves to be called one.
