It's a '68, like mine. Mine is going to be that exact color - silverstone silver with a gunmetal interior. The only difference between that one and my car will be that mine will have the big block hood, and I might spring for the red-line tires.

What forum was was that? I sometimes visit Digital Corvettes, and on the whole it doesn't seem to be too harsh a place. As far as the joke goes, I didn't take it as being directed towards Corvette owners. Sadly, I've found that a lot of the classic Corvette owners are very rude and condescending. It's all about "My Corvette is worth more than yours" or "My Corvette is faster than yours". They treasure the car more for its value or collectibility than the fact that it's a Corvette. I'm one of the few classic Corvette owners that doesn't care about that stuff. I'm only building mine with "original" date-correct components because it's probably what's best for the car. I'm just glad I've finally been able to live out a dream of mine.

I think you'd have to go with a paler color than the one in that photo. Like Oak or Pine or something. Whatever is in that photo has too much red in it to look good with your orange.

It was called "50th Anniversary Red". Not very creative, but there it is

Oh now that is sweet! I would just make absolutely certain that the bed is rust-proofed as well as possible though. Moisture and El Caminos are natural enemies.

DeadStar - Analog shutdown kills pre-'02 OnStar
z28luvr01 replied to Flybrian's topic in General Motors
Given that Onstar piggybacks off of a cell phone network, it might be worth bringing up the fact that cell phone manufacturers and companies are also guilty of doing this same thing to their own customers. As cell phone networks in the US migrated from CDMA to GSM, most phone manufacturers didn't make phones that could handle both, and providers forced customers to either get a new phone or have a surcharge added to their monthly bill to keep their old phone alive. And I don't even think I have to get into how the PC industry frequently leaves people in the dark. I'm not necessarily sticking up for GM here because I think it's idiotic that a three year old car can be called "obsolete". I'm just showing that it just seems to be the rule that people sometimes get left in the cold when technology progresses. -
Lesson #3: Having two windshield wipers causes too much wind resistance and adds unnecessary weight. Removing the passenger's side wiper allows air to flow over your car more smoothly, which should add about 3 hp. As an additional side benefit you get the cool one-wiper look popularized by foreign-market cars. For even more horsepower, paint the driver's side wiper yellow (see Lesson #1).

That's very similar to the one my father has. Don't do it without the hydraulic rams, though the hand pumps are fine. You don't need to go nuts and get the ones that raise/lower at the flip of a switch. Naturally, the PITA is getting the body on and off the thing. I'd recommend using a crane of some sortwith a body harness tailored to your car to lift the body off the frame, then bolt it to the rotisserie. Don't do what we did - jack the body up with bottle-jacks, roll the frame out, lower the body on jackstands, and bolt to rotisserie.

I'd have to agree. A Cobalt sedan with the SS/SC running gear would be close, but that's probably not in the cards. And I think the Mazda 3 is a tad overrated. They missed the mark with the last generation Si, but made up for it with this one. Good luck with it.

Are you open to the idea of shoehorning in an interior from a fellow GM A-body? I like the design and layout of the 73-77 Cutty: Just a thought

Worth a read - Everything you wanted to know about Saint Patrick For the longest time I thought this was a Hallmark holiday, but as a Christian it has plenty of significance. Alas, like Christmas, we've screwed it up and commercialized it. Happy Saint Patrick's Day, everyone.

A-rev would be better off if you gave him your shoe, though

Dude, do you have any idea who you're talking to? I have a '68 Corvette basket case in my possession. The next few years of my life and a good postion of my salary are dedicated to brining that thing back from the dead. Don't EVER call me an anti-enthusuast again.

I'm with Satty and 68. Spending this kind of money on an everyday car just is not worth it. I know you love your car, but the sad truth is, the rest of the world could care less about it. I found out the hard way with my Blazer. Put that money away and save it for when you need it. If you absolutely insist on upgrading the wheels - I could understand not wanting hubcaps - try going for a used set of top-of-the-line Intrepid rims from eBay or a swap meet. In all likelihood you can pick up a set with good rubber for the cost of one of those wheels. Here's a nice set here

Maybe when you press it, the lights dim and the stereo starts playing Barry White. "Ohhhhhh baby"

Four and a half hours. That's how long it took to chip all the 1.5" thick ice off the driveway, walkway, front porch, my car, and part of the deck in the back yard. I'm sore in places I forgot I had places. I more than made up for not going riding today.

That '49 Caddy is gross. Whatever happened to that refrigerator white '59 Buick you were looking at a while back?

We have about 2-3 inches of crusty, heavy snow right now. The roads just flat out suck because they can't get the stuff off the pavement. I was supposed to meet up with some friends at a small group tonight and do my first training ride for the Montauk Century tomorrow. The small group's cancelled and tomorrow's ride is in doubt. And of course, my car looks terrible. Hooray for winter

I don't think it's doable, my friend. IPB does include a jump menu at the bottom of the page in topic view and forum vire, but nothing like what cobaltss.net has.

Yup, and they were even rarer than the MC SS Aero coupe. They needed to make a number of these to allow the GP to race in NASCAR. The nose is fugly beyond recognition, but the paint scheme is very nice.

Beauty's in the eye of the beholder. I'd move there in a heartbeat, and can take the heat. Last year I rode 25 miles in 105* plus San Antonio humidity. It's not a problem as long as you wear suncreen and hydrate yourself adequately. I absolutely cannot stand winter anymore. It stops me from doing what I love.

Well that's good that your dad can do bodywork. Do you have a decent air compressor at home? If so, try getting yourself a spot blaster. That may be your best shot at getting rid of the rust. Take the fender off the car to prevent the sand from getting all in your suspension and engine compartment.

How about doing that poor car a favor and washing the wheelwells out. Usually on newer cars with basecoat/ clearcoat paint jobs, the only way they'll rust is if the paint chips through the primer and it's never touched up. Probably the previous owner took it on a gravel road or something and that got it all chipped up. Rust is like cancer for cars. There's nothing you can really do to stop it - nothing that won't cost you more than the book value of the car anyway. You might be able to stave off the rust with a can of brush-on Rust-Oleum and make it look nice with some touch up paint. If you want to spend a little more, go for Por-15 instead of the Rust Oleum. As for the scratches, they don't look like they're through the clear. If you can feel them with your fingers, they'll need to be sanded and buffed out. If not, you can probably get them out with repeated applications of scratch remover.

That pretty much sums me up. I can't think of a life for myself where I don't care about cars.
