Dsuupr: How about just telling her straight out that you can't afford the car and either a) it needs to go or b) she needs to find a way to pay to keep it on the road? You'd be surprised how well the truth works. Or, give the engine a little TLC and she should pull down mid-20s highway? I think deep down you know you can't kill a Caprice anyway.

I'm so sorry KC. I'll be praying for you and your family. Be strong.

Maybe now we can kill the "fake side vents" trend. It ruins this car, which is a shame because the new grille is actually quite nice.

So the wife has narrowed her choices down...

Have you thought of holding out for the GMC Terrain? -
Whoa, that's hot. Did the 20s alter the ride height at all? I can see that as a reason for dropping mileage, though just by eyeballing it, yours looks about the same height as the blue one. FWIW, my sister gets ~20 hwy in her 5.3L Avalanche. The dealer I bought my Cobalt from used to send 4.8L short-bed Siverados out to a conversion place. They'd install leather seats, the Silverado SS front, a dual exhaust system, and a rear rollpan with integrated outlets for the exhaust. They sounded great, and some even came wth a stick. I'll see if I can find a pic.

I think you're better off. It almost looks like they threw the paint on it to cover up something. The fact that the vinyl isn't off and the floorboards still have surface rust on them is a telling sign. I'll bet whoever strips that paint off is not going to like what they see. Personally, I think Project Camino is going to turn out to be a cooler, more satisfying project than this ever could become. Everyboy and their brother tries to turn every 70-72 Chevy A-body into an SS454 clone. You pretty much have carte blanche with your '77. Since you don't see too many of them, it's bound to turn heads no matter what you do to it.

It seems to have been a trend across the board. Sometime in the late 90s and early 00s, manufacturers stopped caring about whether or not the bed was protected against dings: 2002: 2003: 1997: 2001: and of course, anything Ford and Chevy can do, Toyota can do better: 2002: 2003: Needless to say, if this Silverado did happen to end up in my possession (a long shot), the first order of business would be to yank that molding off. It really interrupts the look of the side. o'blu and gmpartsgirl: What kind of gas mileage did you pull down with your 4.8 powered trucks?
-
clicky Never thought I'd entertain reentering the world of truck ownership again (much less go through with it), but this truck really does something for me. The color helps a lot, and the short, squat look of the regular cab shortbed means it shouldn't be too much of a bear to live with. With the 4.8L it should get decent mileage.

This is going to be one phenomenal looking Buick, one that may have just made my shopping list.

Well, I have to wonder the aerodynamic numbers on this thing vs a more conventional front end design. I could understand the sleek nose, but to me the windshield being completely vertical negates any gains made. The school buses in my neighborhood have adopted a similar nose (they're Internationals), but the windshield I believe has more of a rake to it.

So, I can look forward to regularly scheduled hour-long Ford commercials coming this fall. And people wonder why I barely watch TV anymore.

I can't do it even if I wanted to, which I really don't. 1. Asthma runs in my family. My dad has it pretty bad. I have a touch of it that I control with diet and conditioning. 2. My mom used to smoke until I was about 12. When she quit I became extremely sensitive to cigarette smoke. 3. I like to ride bicycles now, and smoking would only impede my ability to do that. 4. All the money I could spend on cigarettes is better off being spent on some other presssing need in my life.

We've all read O. C.'s "So my boyfriend is moving in ..." thread

Just thought I'd point out the irony of posting on the Internet that you have a dirty little secret that you're taking to the grave. And, no, I'm clean -
Ven don't waste your time, because Buick will never be as good as Lexus, Mercedes, or BMW. Buick sucks, always has sucked, and always will suck. Import luxury brands FTW!
-
Well, it's good to hear that GM is studying ways to make Pontiac, and in particular the G8, more economical. GM already has all the tools it needs in its toolbelt. Writing off the brand is very short-sighted. One word does come to mind, though: ALPHA!

That one has a nice straight body. The interior needs some help, though, and the thing with that is that blue S10 interior parts are extremely difficult to find. I used to own a 1985 S10 Blazer with a blue interior, and I went through torture finding some replacement interior panels. If you got that for a low enough price, I'm sure you could find a junkyard that would let you go to town on a junked S10 with enough parts to change the interior color. You could probably get that for around $500-750. Make sure it has the 4.3, though.
-
I've got it. Google is my friend. And so is Pontiac. Thanks guys.

That Pewter one is nice. Make sure the 48K is real and that it hasn't rolled the odometer over, and then jump on it. How about this: 1992 S10 Blazer 4x4 It's 225 miles away from you, give or take a few. It needs a starter, the shocks for the lift glass, and a paint job. But the body looks to be in impeccable condition.
-
"If this Ford's a rockin', it's probably the rear shocks." Seriously, though, it's not terrible. Two bumpers, some rust encapsulator, and a paint job and it'll look good as new. Like the Cutlass, it'll need quite a bit of TLC to keep running smoothly, though.
-
The first-gen S10 ran from 82-93, while the S10 Blazer went from 83-94. I think the 200hp Vortec 4.3 became standard equipment in 92, while being an option in 91 (the 160hp TBI 4.3 was standard). Stay away from the 2.8 models if you can help it, unless you plan on buying it and immediately replacing the engine. Of course, I probably don't have to tell you that these things can swallow a small block with just a touch of creativity.

Forget the Aveo. Not worth it at any price. The Silverado is probably the pick of the litter here. But, as Camino said, get a different color. That color combo just screams "U.S. Government Fleet Special" The Colorado is a huge letdown on the inside, but mechanically it should hold up fine. That one actually looks great for a stripper. The Cobalt will give you the best MPGs (remember how I said forget the Aveo) and will be a fun drive even in base trim. However, I would consider scouring the CPO lots for a gently used one with more options so you can stay in your price range. Base model Cobalts are very spartan on the inside. Fear not - CPO cars still come with the 5/100 powertrain warranty

Is this XP? If so, how do you get the taskbar black like that? If it's Vista, nevermind. I'll live with the taskbar I have.

Get the truck, unless fuel economy is his ONLY concern, in which case I'd get the Civic. The truck would probably be most able to support his lifestyle, it's generally very easy to work on (although the parts can be heavier compared to a car), and there's no shortage of aftermarket goodies for late nodel GM pickups, so he could have every bit as much fun working on and driving the truck as he could the Civic. Keep your eyes open - 2WD full-sizers are rare but cheap when you find them. As for the muscle car and 80s G-body, I'd wait on those. Something like that should be more of a project while he drives the truck.
-
I hear that. Even the less desirable 73-82 models are seeing their prices go up. People are buying them up because all the 68-72s are spoken for. Seriously, though, this one is beautiful, and it's a Florida roadster so it's less likely to be beat to snot. A little high with the mileage, but if you're not planning on getting rid of it, who cares? LT1s will run a long, long time. Interior is fantastic for the mileage of the car. This was someone's pride and joy. I love how white/red looks on both the C4s and C5s.
