  1. Exactly how much did it cost to rebadge the Commodre as a G8 vs rebadging the Aveo as a G3, or the Cobalt as a G5, or the Equinox as a Torrent? And again, compare the MPGs of a 6cyl Malibu to a 6cyl G8 and the whole "FWD is better for fuel economy" argument goes away.
  2. I'm not familiar with PAs emissions requirements, but if you stick an LS V8 in it, it'll probaly run cleaner than the 6 that originally came with it. When I had the S10 Blazer with the V8 and would go for my NYS inspection, the inspector would give me a problem every year because it had a V8 and not the V6 that came with it, but the sticker showed that the trucks emissions were a fraction of what a 2.8L V6 S10 Blazer called for. If you want to stick with a V6, AAS' suggestion sounds great, as does a SC 3800 or even a hotted-up 4.3L V6 (75% of a 350 :AH-HA_wink:).
  3. We're going to install a new K&N Filter, CAI, 4" exahust tip, and bright red spark plug wires. Not really. We're just going to upgrade to the latest version of IP.Board. We should see some improvements in speed and reliability, as some of the scripts were rewritten for IPB 2.3.x. A new front page is in the works, but we're putting that off in lieu of the DB crash.
  4. We're Back! ~October 22, 2008~ We're on the air again. C&G's database crashed yesterday, but the host was able to get us up and running again with no apparent loss of posts. Now that you're all just now getting back into the swing of things, what better time to announce that there'll be some PLANNED downtime after 9:30EST tonight? We'll be upgrading to the latest version of IP Board, which boasts of, among other things, some improvements in speed and reliability. DOWNTIME ANNOUNCEMENT: 10/22/08 @ ~9:30PM EST --- Get Your Orders In ~October 20, 2008~ It's nice to write about something positive - it seems like forever since we've been able to do that. Buyouts, mergers, and national politics all may be clouding our minds right now, but in the midst of the storm is the calming thought that GM does still have quite a few drool-worthy cars coming out. For instance, today marks the day that Pontiac will begin taking orders for the 2009 G8 GXP. Want one? What are you waiting for? Head on down to your local Pontac dealer and reserve one. Order Your G8 GXP Now, Now, NOW!!
  5. Not for nothing, but :useless:
  6. The HP rating is up, apparently. I thought it was "only" 403hp.
  7. Nah, that's Grumman Park in Calverton where they used to make F-14s.
  8. Well, the ball's in your court, assuming your matchmaking friend doesn't try to orchestrate the entire meeting. Women are pretty good at picking up signals whether or not someone likes them. If you're not interested, she'll pick up on it and it won't go any further. There's nothing stopping you from being casual acquaintances, though.
  9. Happy Birthday, my friend
  10. I'm sure he's proud.
  11. Happy Birthday, Wild Manjoe.

    Apologetic

Okay, everyone simmer down and take a couple of these: Seriously, it's time for all this crap to stop. Emotions are running high, I understand, as there's not much good news anywhere these days, and this election is the most crucial election in quite some time. But it's disappointing to see friend turn upon friend here over political beliefs when in the past we've been able to take the high road on much more pointed issues (you know what they are). Ocn, apology accepted. With that said, everybody should take a moment to re-read our Politics Policy and Rule #2 thread for participating in political discussions and adhere to it to the letter. Also, I want to add - argue with facts, not emotions. Review each candidate's stance on the issues that are important to you, and base your stance on that. Saying you're pro McCain because "Obama is a crackpot" or saying you're pro-Obama because "McCain is an old fart" will get you nowhere. We really do not want to reinstate Rule #2 before orignally intended, but it is on the table at this point. We really need to prove that we can handle this election season with the class and civility that we've shown in the past.
  13. From the trailer I saw, it doesn't offer much of an analysis of the past 8 years; it's more a look at his formative years pre-Presidency than anything else. I could be wrong though.
  14. I might go for it, or a least rent it. I have a book on him that paints a pretty fair picure of him as well.
  15. Careul, don't stare at this pic too long, you'll want to gouge your eyes out with a melon baller:
  16. First thing that came to mind:
  17. With the 16s the car will probably look something like this: If you like the look, Ebay is your friend Go for the 16s and get the Michelin tires that come from the factory. You will not be disappointed.
  18. Sometimes it feels like the industry is moving such that in 5-10 years getting a new car will be on par with buying a new stove or refrigerator. All the emotion and fun associated with owning and driving car will be engineered out. I'd really like to say that "This is America and we'll innovate our way out of this", but the fact is that GM (and most other car companies) are thinking globally and could care less about local markets. So what we're going to get is a one-size-fits-all car in every segment that'll do their jobs extremely well, but ultimately will have little emotional/cultural appeal. *sigh*
  19. No. I know which way I'm leaning, but I'm not 100% committed yet. I really need an unbiased, even-keeled breakdown of where each candidate stands on each issue.
  20. Cruze is stupid - my hatred of the name hasn't worn off in the two months we've known about it. There's really no glaring reason to get rid of Cobalt, and I don't see a problem with calling it Cobalt across the globe.
  21. I was always under the impression that RWD was axed for "fuel economy concerns" (not that there are any), and was not aware that work on Alpha had ever stopped. If they can end up doing all that on Alpha, even if it ends up costing a fair amount, it'll be made up given the volume of vehicles worldwide for the various brands that can come off of it. Waitaminit - there I go being logical again....sorry. Only Caddy, Chevy, and Buick really need it. Screw everyone else.
  22. My thoughts exactly. She didn't fall flat on her face like most expected her too. She was mostly well composed if not confident, but Biden did a better job of conveying the facts about his and Obama's position. Both probably did a good job of saving their own reputation, although Biden probably did more to advance his running mate's cause than Palin.
  23. How are they getting along? Do they still pick fights with each other like they were doing a while back?
  24. Nice interior, but I will need to see the coupe before I'm a believer. The sedan looks too "generic import" for my tastes.
  25. Chevy (Middle East), Vauxhall (England), Buick (China), and Daewoo (Southeast Asia) have all at one point or another gotten in bed with Holden. Are there plans to phase those brands out as well? Just saying....
