  1. I never dressed for halloween, but I do have a couple of sweaters and shirts that I'd put on my dog when it got cold so she could stay warm during the day when the heat goes down lower. With the tumor in her arm giving her some difficulty, I think her clothes-wearing days are over
  2. This is actually good news. PCS had hinted that it may go to Australia wearing Chevy badges. It doesn't seem like Holden's going anywhere.
  3. You seem to advocate removing RW almost for symbolic reasons. I can't say I agree with that. If you remove RW, you still have the same corporate structure in place that causes GM to be so slow in the first place. Leave Rick, but trim the fat out of upper management instead. They need to get from idea to action a lot more quickly - there are too many obstacles that slow things down. And that brings me to my second point: the internal politicking within GM needs to stop. The different fiefdoms all need to be made aware that they work for the same company, and they may have to suck it up and sacrifice their personal interests for the sake of GM's livelihood.
  4. Well, the original Greek and Hebrew texts are avaialble for your reading pleasure. There's no denying that there's a human element involved in the Bibles that we have today. Most of the translations out there today aim for one of two targets: 1) To be a literal, word for word translation of the original texts, or 2) to make the points that the original text was trying to make. Those two targets should be one and the same but aren't because language has evolved over time. But at least the majority of the popular translations are one step removed from the original scrolls. I suspect that is not the case of these Bibles. They might be more of a translation of a translation - in other words a paraphrase. Most are very readable so they can be OK in some circumstances, but many of them are less concerned with conveying the original text than they are proving a point the human author is trying to make.
  5. I'm not a fan of air fresheners. I'd rather my car actually be clean than smell clean.
  6. It's not looking good, folks. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081204/ap_on_.../congress_autos This is what GM is up against: a vast majority of people that don't give a crap as long as they can still buy a Camry and take it to Walmart to fill it with disposable Chinese-made junk. How about GM, F, and C compromise and ask for a couple billion each, just to tide them over until Jan 20?
  7. This won't fly. In most cases, it'll make no financial sense, as the tax credit amount would likely be less than the value of the car.
  8. Apparently, whoever did the camo job on the front end is an Olds fan.
  9. Harley, it's not a handout. It's a loan that GM will begin paying off in '11. This is a great plan - GM appears to be taking the Ford approach and jettisoning all things that don't represent the core of GM. Of the three brands on the block, I'll miss Saab the most because I do have a soft spot for them, but better them than Pontiac or Buick. As far as Saturn and Hummer go, I hope the door doesn't hit them in the behind ont he way out. How successful the plan will be depends on if they can unload all three and get a decent amount of coin for them. Hummer has been on the block for some time now and noone's bit yet. I'd say peddle it to Middle Eastern investors who pay pennies a gallon for gas. Saab and Satun should be easier sells given that they're more car-focused than Hummer.
  10. Yes, and an Avalanche-style vehicle that I've always felt should've gone to GMC instead of Caddy.
  11. Yeah, having the Acadia and Enclave in the same showroom was a dumb move. My personal belief is that they should follow through with an open-bed Lambda and make that the next-gen Acadia.
  12. Well, all future Buicks will be designed to sell in both the US and China, so essentially they'll be shedding either Buick-NA or Buick-China (depending on how you look at it). We should reserve final judgement until we see the LaCrosse in the flesh, but i don't think that turning Buick around is that big a deal.
  13. The Plan! The Plan! ~December 2, 2008~ GM took the wraps off of its massive restructuring/cost saving plan that it will present to Congress when it pleads its case for a bridge loan. Some of the details include Focusing on "core brands": Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac Launching predominately high mileage, energy-efficient cars and crossovers Selling Saab, HUMMER Selling or kill Saturn Reducing Pontiac to a "niche" brand So, what do you think? Is it enough? Discuss at the link below. The Plan for a Leaner GM
  14. Whoa, a tailgate that opens both ways? I thoght Honda invented that She's a beaut. I'm slowly becoming more and more of a wagon fan, to the point where I might prefer one to its sedan counterpart.
  15. Don't know if this means anything or not, but I saw on CNN a graphic showing three line items supposedly in GM's plan. Two of them were: executive pay cuts and deferred payment of retirees. I'm sure GM has a heck of a lot more than that in their plan.
  16. Same here. They are. It's called the 9-4x.
  17. $4K is a steal. The parts alone should fetch that much. You do have the right to end the auction early if you change your mind. What if you unloaded some of the parts you don't need, and used that money to finish it off?
  18. In NY, I'm pretty sure you have to wear whatever the car initially came with. This means: 1) Pre-seatbelts: no seatbelt required. 2) Separate lap/shoulder bets: you must wear BOTH pieces. 3) Integrated lap/shouler belts: required
  19. OK, here's the thing. Whether you think that checkpoints are unnecessary or an infringement of your rights is immaterial and is no excuse for the way you treated the cops. They are just doing their job and carrying out the laws set by the state. If you have a problem with the laws, write your Congressman, or better yet, run for Congress and change them yourself. But to give an innocent person a hard time when they a) are just enforcing a principle established several levels above him and b) could be home sleeping but instead chooses to stay out protecting the public is a pretty poor showing on your part. I expect better from you.
  20. How about that giant cockroach in your garage? Happy Thanksgiving to all. My father is on shift today and tomorrow, so we will be doing the big meal on Saturday. Tonight it's going to be a Boston Market Thanksgiving.
  21. Moved to GM news, because I want it seen by non-members and I want to link it on the front page. This is absolutely appalling, and exactly the kind of self-loathing humor that got us where we are now.
  22. Practice reading comprehension. Kthxbye.
  23. Welcome back. I'm sorry to hear you've been through all that. That Cutlass is beautiful. That year in particular is very attractive with the flush headlamps. I too hope he loves it and learns to appreciate it, and above all, make sure he doesn't donk it or cut it all up.
  24. Yes. There's really no excuse. What better way to drum up support for GM's products and mission than to arrive at the biggest meeting of your life in a GM vehicle?
  25. Happy belated, Fly. Hope all is well.
