  1. Why are we arguing the fate of any remaining GM brands? Buick, Chevy, Caddy, and GMC are here to stay. GM will live or die with these brands.

  4. Well this is good news. I'd hate to see Holden be dragged down by this mess, and I hope they get the opportunity to send some more of their products here.
  5. These were direct-fit replacements. I got the cross-drilled rotors because of the ceramic pads, as they'd have warped the heck out of stock rotors. If you wanted to upsize your rotors/brakes, you could get a complete kit that would come with new pads, rotors, calipers, brackets, and possibly hoses or ABS sensor relocators, depending on the application.
  6. Treated my car to some AC/Delco ceramic front brakes, drilled/slotted rotors, and replaced both front struts after the right one started leaking thanks to my accident last year. Before: After:
  7. white-tiger-print velour, maybe?? Anyway, I just finished upgrading the road bike to 9 speed with Ultegra STI shifters/derailleurs. I don't know why I was holding off on index shifting for so long, probably because people I ride with have STI shifters that seemed to shift sloppily from the day they got their bikes. The new gear took no time to set up and adjust, and the shifts are so crisp. It's just about the coolest thing you can do to a 1981 Schwinn. Can't wait to take it on a nice long ride.
  8. A little at a time, Satty. For the headliner, if the board is still good, you can buy the material for next to nothing and glue it on yourself. It's a lot cheaper than a new headliner. What went wrong with the bike?

  15. I had originally thought the plan was for Alpha to be able to underpin everything from a Solstice to a Holden Caprice. In all likelihood it's too much to ask for the pricepoints they want to sell the cars at. Building a "Zeta Lite" shouldn't cost that much in engineering effort as they're just replacing steel with whatever lighter material they choose. It would also allow for Alpha to focus on compact 4cyl/6cyl cars. Over time I can see "Zeta Lite" taking over for Sigma. Go Holden.
  16. Vipes, I know this sounds like an excuse, but sometimes a car with extremely low mileage for its age can have its own "demons" to deal with. Typically you'll deal with things like premature rot in rubber things like weatherstripping or suspension bushings or rusting/seizing of some metal parts from lack of use. For the front suspension thing, I'd take a look at all things rubber - any control arm bushings that weren't changed already and the rubber strut mounts in particular. You can do this yourself. The parts aren't too expensive, and aside from a spring compression tool, this portion of the car doesn't require any exotic tools. I will be chanigng both my front struts this weekend or next (fallout from my accdent last year), so I'll give you a heads up on anything if you want.
  17. Asrta's a better lookign car IMO (and you guys know how I feel about the Cruze), but I se the point of eschewing it in favor of a locally-produced car. It'll keep Elizabeth humming even if Commodore sales completely tank across the globe. And they don't have to deal with exchange rates. GMNA should consider taking the same approach with the Zeta cars. Build 'em as close to the intended market as possible.
  18. And had they done that at the time, they'd have gone right into Chapter 7. When debts > assets as it is with GM, that's what happens in the real world.
  19. Well depending on what you can get it for, I think it's worth the effort to fix it up. It's the right powertrain combo, and a very rare one that you'll never find again. Aside from the amateur stereo install (which no matter how bad it is can be remedied if you're patient), the interior looks great. As a quick fix you can probably find a tailgate from a junkyard, ebay, etc - I think the Suburbans came with clamshell tailgates also - and spray it at your leisure. The clanking problem no doubt is serious, but assuming you don't have to replace the entire transfer case, parts should be reasonable in price.

Yesterday I decided to find out what lengths my Cobalt will go through to keep me from leaving my keys in it, so I played around with it in the parking lot. - Keys in ignition, door closed: Hit lock button, doors lock as they should with one press - keys in ignition, door open: hit lock button, doors lock then immediately unlock. Key buzzer chimes continously. - Keys out of ignition, door open: hit lock button, buzzer chimes three times. hit lock button again, doors lock.
  21. Whatever you think of government intervention, the fact remains that, had it not interfered when it did, Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Tata, Chery, Geely, etc. would all be feasting on GM's remains as of right now. Everyone needs to calm down and let things shake out.
  22. Looking at the Camaro as a bad apple is just wrong, and I'm not just saying this as a Camaro fan. If the government doesn't want to give more money to GM they'll leave the Camaro alone. The damn thing is selling despite all the negativity surrounding GM's future. A much better approach would be to get behind the Camaro and invest in i so that it meets future MPG/emissions standards yet keeps it's Camaro-ness. I am talking hybrids, alt fuel versions, turbo 4 options, etc.
