  1. 2006 GMC Canyon SL - $14,995 I'd only keep the cap on until I can unload it on craigslist. Not sure what I'd do with the add-on satellite radio. It's a little more than I want to spend, and I'm not 100% sure it's worth it, but such is life buying used on LI.
  2. Wow, I'm loving the pics and the truck. I'm now hearing a very similarly configured 2006 Canyon SL calling my name.
  3. How can anyone even attempt to trivialize a 184 million gallon oil spill? How about taking all that crude, and dropping it all on top of your house, your car, your place of business, everywhere you need and want to go, and all pathways in between? You might want to think about this differently. I'm speechless.
  4. In the past week, I tried to pair my Cobalt up with a 2007 Silverado and a 2005 Canyon. But alas, both pickups were sold.
  5. It's pretty much the same thing on LI. There aren't many desirable used trucks below $15K that don't have one or more of the attributes you mention. And once I get to $15K, the fact that I am sitting on 2K of GM Card earnings and am eligible for the GM Supplier discount as a credit union member starts to make buying new almost more feasible. As for the 98, I agree with those that say you should haggle the price down, but just because you want to get a deal. If the body and interior are in good shape (no rust outside, no rips/cracks/fading inside), that alone makes it almost worth it. If you do the work yourself, parts for B bodies are everywhere and not expensive. Even if the worst were to happen, and the 307 died, any small block should be a relatively easy transplant. My take: offer him $1750-$2000 and see if he bites.

  7. Happy Birthday, Camino
  8. Got back from the dealer - it actually did have the clamps on the box. No holes in the bed rails to speak of, though there were a few chips near the box. There wasn't a single dent on it, but a few fine scratches in the clear, which would probably come out with some buffing. Inside the bed is more seriously scratched, but not dented. Some Rhino liner will take care of that. None of this matters though, because they sold the truck just before I got there and the guy was going to pick it up in a little while.
  9. Open bed pickups = infinite cargo capacity. Plus, there are many options to cover the bed if you don't want it exposed. Most modern pickups, though not necessarily Nurburgring worthy, seem to handle very, very well. As far as gas mileage goes, the truck I'm looking at is rated at 17/23mpg. That's awesome, and only slightly less than your average FWD V6 sedan today. If it is in fact FlexFuel capable, even better, because they're supposedly putting in E-85 pumps at my job. I actually had been seriously considering a decent used 2dr Blazer, but every one I see here either 1) has excessive mileage, 2) is beat to snot, or 3) is ridiculously expensive (same price as this Silverado, if not more). I'm getting off work at 12 tomorrow - and I'm gonna give this a look-see.
  10. The dealer's ad for it is here They actually have the Carfax on it available to the public: clicky I'd really like to go take a look at it this Saturday. Big homeowner chores are starting to pile up, and I'm getting tired of overcramming the Cobalt (which I would still keep), asking people to use their truck, or paying shipping charges.
  11. The truck's still available, now at $9900 and change. I have a concern about the tool box: If I got the truck I'd be ripping that thing out as soon as I got it in my driveway. How are these things typically held in? Are they typically screwed/bolted in the bed, or do they clamp in somehow? I looked at a similar box (Husky brand) mounted in a 94-97 S10 and couldn't see how it was mounted.

  13. No, it wasn't a very big show, about 50-70 cars total. Many were scared away by the threat of rain. Two weeks ago my friend bought a worked 1973 Monte Carlo and entered it in the show. He ended up placing 3rd in the Modified class. Pics

    Worth it?

http://longisland.craigslist.org/ctd/1783881887.html I'm smitten by this, and it's configured exactly the way I'd want a light-duty Home Depot/bike hauler. Well, tehcnically no - black is probably my last choice for paint color, but that's balanced out by the 5.3L FlexFuel (I'd have been happy with a 4.8L).
  15. So, the guy with the black hair - is that smk?
  16. Happy belated, B. Enjoy your trip. Hope you get some biking in.

  18. I'm in agreement with Camino, YJ, and others. The issue isn't necessarily the cars themselves, it's the fact that we're inevitably told we can't have exactly what we want option wise. Cars today are packaged to streamline production and, of course, to maximize profit. Unfortunately, that means fewer choices for the consumer. Want the polished aluminum wheels? Sure, check off option package 1SB, which also gets you the six speed automatic, heated leather seats, navigation system with backup camera, dual zone AC, adaptive cruise control, etc. Oh,and by the way you've just bumped the car's price by $4500.
  19. Nice, clean car. I have a soft spot for these, since my dad has a '73 and owned a '76 for several years, never spent a dime on anything other than routine maintenance, ans still sold it for a small profit.
  20. Chris Pauwels (crispey2k) went/is going there and it seems like one of the better schools for what you are going for. I know he actually was taught by present (and former) GM designers.
  21. I guess because he had to get home, or something like that. Water under the bridge though - I went to pick up my car this afternoon and - lo and behold - they got it right the first time! Everything fits as good as, if not better than, it did when I first got the car. The paint matches perfectly, and it's clear (pun intended) that they paid extra attention to getting it smooth, shiny, and free of imperfections. What really blew me away was what the shop owner told me. I had voiced to the estimator that I wanted an OEM bumper and would pay the difference, and he gave me this song and dance about how CAPA bumpers are just as good yadda yadda yadda. Well, the shop re-wrote the estimate using ALL OEM parts and fought it out with GEICO. His reasoning being that money spent on labor to adjust a CAPA part to try to make it fit can be used to buy better parts that give a nicer final product. GEICO wouldn't budge, so he went all OEM anyway. I ended up paying an extra $40 over my deductible - I'd expected to pay more than that for just the OEM bumper. So yeah, this one ended up being much less stressful. Saturday I'll give it a good wash and snap some beauty shots.
  22. It's nothing that a bottomless wallet can't fix
  23. absolutely nothing, though Im not opposed to wrapping it in cheese.
  24. Heading home after going to a wake for my friend's grandfather, I'm in the middle lane of a 3 lane highway, slowing down for a red light. Noone's in front of me, and cars are on either side of me. Just as I'm about to pass a white GMC cable truck that's on my right, said cable truck juts out into my lane. I can't do anything but jam on the brake pedal and hope for the best. I nail him in the tire, and he takes out my front bumper, scrapes my fender and headlight, and knocks out assorted plastic parts that I can't identify right now because I'm so pissed. The driver is very clearly out of it, either via alcohol or pot or something. The cop gets there and doesn't pay any mind to any of the symptoms the guy was showing. Doesn't take my suggestion to check him for DUI. He really seemed more interested in getting out of there than getting this ass off the road where he belongs. So now I'm out my $500 deductible. I'm not going to bother with the GEICO Express shops that they recommend. F that. My last accident required three trips to the shop to get the car satisfactory. I'm getting an estimate tomorrow at 1 and will take it to a shop that doesn't suck. The damage:
