Can do. It's actually fairly close to done. I tried to get it entered into the contest, but in the rush to get it done I didn't like how it was coming out so I waled away from it. I'll be back on 2/1.

Wow...thanks guys. I'm floored. This watch will go great with my Chevy trucks t shirt...and my Chevy truck. I still have that "other" entry that's actually fairly close to completion. I'll finish that when I get back from vacation and post it in the design showcase. I think this contest shows that the talent base here is second to none. Keep up the good work guys. You all should be proud of yourselves.

Design Competition #4 - K5 Design Contest
z28luvr01 replied to Camino LS6's topic in Design Competitions
I've another entry coming that's like nothing previously posted, and nothing like I hinted in my other posts. Hopefully I can get it done tonight. If not I'll just put it in Member Showcase when it's done. -
Design Competition #4 - K5 Design Contest

I'd say it'd most likely be very similar to the hardtop offered on the Wrangler. Most likely construction material would be fiberglass, but a high grade plastic is a possibility for weight savings. I supposed instead of having it bolted through the bedrails like the original, it'd clamp down or utilize some sort of rail system that could allow for aftermarket/accessory tops (tent, anyone?) to be easily mounted to it. -
Design Competition #4 - K5 Design Contest

When I first decided to enter this contest I insisted that my entry have a removable top. The fixed roof on the shorty GMT-400s was my ONLY knock against them. Still that would be a relatively easy mod to implement on my current chop, while going hand in hand with the "idea" I alluded to in my previous post. I really hope I can get it done on time. -

I have another idea, but I don't know if I'll be able to flesh it out before the end of the contest AND paint/tile my bathroom AND pack for my vacation that starts the week after next. I'll give it my best though. If I can't get it out I'm confortable with my entry as it stands now. -

Yes. Last year I bought a HP Elitebook 8530w that takes everything I throw at it (so much so that I sold my desktop and bought a dock for it). It's got a stainless steel top cover and palm rest, and its damn near indestructible. Once I dropped it once on my basement floor and the corner of the LCD hit first, and there's only a barely noticeable ding on the case. Nothing happened to the LCD. If I get bold I'll take the LCD apart and try to get the ding out. With the dock and about half the option boxes ticked, it came to around 1700. Elitebooks start around $1100 now.

I'm still of the belief that, at least in the case of the Verano, they could have still satisfied the regulations and come up with a better solution to where the hood, fenders, doors, and windshield intersect. It's kind of a shame because, other than that issue, I think it's a really sharp little car and it would be a good option for people who don't want a bigger car yet want to step up from their Cobalt, Civic, Corolla, etc.
-
Still, I think they could've designed around it - especially since the seem between the front quarter glass and driver's window is pushed further back than the seem between the fender and the door. You could make the upper seam the same as the lower seem and push the mirror forward. With that done, they could either make the A pillar wider add some more curvature to the windshield. Honestly, the front quarter glass gives me the same impression that the black plastic on behind the rear doors on the Cruze does - that the designers just flat out gave up trying to make it work.
-
I hate it. Overall the proportions for this car seem very off, and the front quarter window accentuates it. What's weird is that, after seeing a Cruze in the steel, it actually has one of the best stances for a FWD car in recent memory.

OnStar to be made available on all vehicles

Ditto for my '05 Colorado and '05 Cobalt that aren't OnStar equipped. -

Mine's still cooking. I haven't touched it during the holiday week, but I'll get back on it, and hopefully it'll go faster now that I have Photoshop back on my laptop. -
I've driven an Xterra and it felt far more twitchy and top heavy than the Liberty.

A friend has one with the 3.7L V6 and he loves it. Rock solid reliability. Come to think of it, every Jeep I've ever known has been ridiculously tough to kill. They'll rot, they'll leak, but they'll run forever.

All current and former Cobalt owners, please read

I've had one for 5.5 years and put just over 51K miles on it. It's a 2005 LS (fully loaded except for OnStar). Nothing major to complain about. I had the power steeering recall taken care of, and while they had the car they replaced the column preemptively since they felt it was binding and it was covered under warranty. My car did have a couple of teething issues, like the finish on the door pulls and the sunroof button bezel falling down, but those issues have been fixed in later model years. If I had to issue any sort of warning, unless you get a car with the 16" Michelins you should replace the stock rubber ASAP. To be kind, they don't grip well especially in the rain, and road noise is much worse than with the Michelins. -

Hmmm. I just might try something out, though my PS skills are somewhat rusty at this point. -
Nominations for Concepts that shouldn't have been left on the shelf

Yeah, though I thought I grabbed the revised version, unless I have things backwards. In GM's pics it had chrome trim along the crease near the beltline and a higher stance. The one I saw at NYIAS looked more like the one I posted. I do prefer the wheels/tires on this one, though. -

I'm more or less pushing the concept of a dirt cheap fun cruiser than the actual Bel Air itself. I do agree that it looks rather dated now, but it did fit in with the styling trends of 2002 - we were just finally crawling out of the jellybean era. One of its claims to fame was that it could be brought online at a moment's notice, and I don't think that fact would change today given that it's essentially a rebodied Colorado. A newer more dynamic body should be child's play for GM's current design staff. -

Here's some for you: The Bel Air, while on the surface it appeared to be an answer to Ford's retro Thunderbird, was actually a sneak peak at the mechanicals of the then forthcoming Chevrolet Colorado. It rode on the GMT355 chassis with ZQ8 suspension and was powered by a turbocharged 3.5 liter I5. Regardless of what its purpose was, I think Chevy would have done well to see this one through. With the Camaro taking a bow and exiting - stage left - that year, The General would soon be lacking in the 'non-boring' portion of its lineup. While no Camaro, the Bel Air still could have resonated with buyers by being a decent handling coupe/convertible dripping with some retro cues. As proven by the 2009-up Colorado and the SSR, small block power for the GMT355 would have been just a finger snap away. You could point to the failures of the SSR and T-bird as an indication of the Bel Air's eventual fate, if you want to. But the Bel Air very well could have bested them simply by the fact that it would have been much easier to bring in at an affordable price, unlike the 'Bird and SSR who relied on exclusive hardware to make it to production. Being based on a truck whose MSRP started in the mid teens with a body devoid of expensive gimmickery, it wouldn't have been too much of a stretch to see a production Bel Air base in the low to mid 20s. -
Actually that's not a bad idea. Camino's kind of low on space in the barn. A truck that folds up along its midsection could be the perfect solution for him.
