I for one love the front fascia on the last-gen Formula-based Firehawk. The four circular lamps on the bottom just scream "sinister"

Yeah, I think MSN just put up the wrong slideshow, although a V8 Malibu for low-to-mid 20s is very enticing.

In theory, if the 3.5L and 3.9L share the same bolt pattern, there's no reason why it can't happen. If GM decided to spread their existing manuals across every car line possible, the only cars that would be left out are the LS4 W bodies and the Northstars. If the 2.8L V6 in the 9-3 comes with a manual option, then that would take care of the FWD HFV6 applications.

I'm of the belief that, in most cases, the car makes the name, not vice versa. Names like Altima and Sonata started out on really crappy cars, yet were kept for successive generations until the current cars which currently are a force to be reckoned with. That said, names like Regal, LeSabre, Park Avenue, Cavalier, and Grand Am DEFINITELY could have been salvaged. Anyhoo..trying my best to separate the names from the cars, here's my list of stupid names: - Bronco II, Mustang II, anything II - Golf - Stanza - Tempo - Precis - Chevette - Diplomat - Aspen
SKY will have about a 3-4k premium over the base Solstice. I wouldn't worry about the cannibalizing there, especially since the styling will be the main differentiator between the two.
Maybe I should've made myself more clear...the possibility of the Sky stealing Solstice sales is much greater than that of the Camaro stealing Solstice sales. Yes, the Solstice and Sky are substantially differentiated by interior and exterior styling, but the differentiation between the Solstice and the Camaro is much greater.
Camaro will have a convertible, or at least a removable top, who are you trying to kid?
Noone. I'm just saying that you're not going to get a new Camaro convertible for 20K. Well equipped fourth-gen V6 convertibles stickered for anywhere between 24 and 28, with Z28 and SS models topping out in the low 30s. You could get a Solstice and use the money left over to buy an Aveo to knock around in. The price differential between the Solstice and the cheapest Camaro 'vert will be enough to keep them from hurting each others' sales.
Cobalt SS doesn't really compete with the Solstice at all because the two cater to very different markets.
So do the Camaro and the Solstice. One is a lightweight, cheap, small-engined two seat roadster-only. The other is a mid-sized, not-as-cheap, big engined four-place coupe with a removable top. People looking for one will not even consider the other.
Cobalt SS is the top of the line economy car at Chevrolet. It has some performance, but it is not a "performance car."
Tell that to Motor Trend, and all the Cobalt SS drivers who are curently kicking ass and taking names in the Grand Am cup. This isn't really pertinent to the discussion, but I just had to say it....you know.....because :)
The Camaros most direct competitor will obviously be the Mustang, with a price point of just under 20k. If the Camaro is to compete with Mustang, it will also offer the drop top.
Do you think Mustang buyers are going to cross-shop a Solstice? Me neither. So why worry about any effect the Camaro would have on the Solstice. For the record, a base Mustang 'vert starts at $24,735. A new Camaro 'vert won't be substantially more or less than that.
GM will now be offering TWO sports cars with convertibles at the same price: Solstice and Camaro. Both are "performance cars" as their mission. Both will feature droptops.
Again...Different bodystyles. Different seating configurations. Different engine options. Different driving dynamics. Different price points. It's no different than Z4 roaster vs. 325 coupe. Or Solstice vs. Cobalt SS for that matter.
Which one do you think will have more performance? My bets are on Camaro.
In terms of raw engine power I agree. However there's something to be said for the thrill of flinging a lightweight, athletic car around a hairpin without breaking the tires free. I do that all the time in my "economy car with some performance", and it's an experience that I'm more than reluctant to have to give up.
If GM prices the two the same, more people will choose Camaro over Solstice because: same money + more car + more raw power = Camaro Styling would really be the only real selling point for the Solstice. I just can't see why GM would do anything to jeopardize the Solstice, especially given that its platform is destined to be unprofitable at this point in time.
As I've tried to allude to, the Solstice and Camaro are two completely different cars catering to two completely different customers. Even from a non-ethusiast, Consumer-Reports-abiding perspective, any potential buyer of one will have a hard time setting foot into the other, much less driving it home.

I was pretty awestruck by, of all things, the BUICK script on the mirror: Now that's what I call attention to detail.

The Solstice will be fine: - If someone is looking for a car with a trunk and back seats, the Solstice is off his list anyway even without the presence of a Camaro. The closest car in price/performance that GM has to the Solstice is the Cobalt SS, which obviously isn't cannibalizing the Solstice. - The 20K Camaro will almost certainly be a fixed roof model with few options. Anyone looking for a 20K convertible still has the Solstice as the main option. There's enough differentiation between the Solstice and Camaro so that both can have healthy sales. I'd be more worried about the Sky cannibalizing Solstice sales.

Yep, that's it! I like that color much better than the standard issue rental-fleet-special beige. It's almost like the dark bronzemist that was offered on the GP and Intrigue back around 2000 or so. GM can come up with some really nice colors when they put their mind to it.

wildmanjoe and Croc, Flybrian's post was a parody of various well-known former C&G trolls. it was meant to be taken in jest.

Okay, now you have to post your pic. I need to hang it on my wall with the caption "My Hero"

Check the site out for some instructions....does the error message tell you what plugin it needs? I know WMP doesn't come with the DivX plugin, which is usually used to extract movie files from DVDs. You have to install that one from www.divx.com

No, it just means they'll put the cell phone in the left hand instead of the right hand. Never underestimate the power of a moron. -
hmm....blue devil motor, anyone?

They forgot to stick these couple of sentences in somewhere: "However, a few components of the Cobalt's interior felt cheap and inferior to many competing models. This is yet another example of the cost cutting measures taken by General Motors, which has seen its market share continue to plummet as the company faces a relentless onslaught from Japanese manufacturers." Yes, Virginia, you too can be an automotive journalist. Of course I'm being facetious. I love every bit of positive attention given to the Cobalt. Chevy hasn't had a car with this much street cred since, well, the Camaro. *runs away in anticipation of Sixty8*

Sat in an HHR at the dealership this morning waiting for them to fix the alarm that they so cheesily installed. Anyway, it was a blue LT with grey cloth interior. It had the rear seat folded flat, and it was downright cavernous in there. The inside overall was nice...about as nice as my car. There was also a gorgeous amber bronze Impala LT. That color looks great on the car. Though I didn't care for the tan color on the inside (dark grey or black would have made for a sweet combo with the bronze), it looked and felt very nice in there. The switchgear all felt substantial and high quality. The Impala looks a lot sleeker in person. I take back any comments I may have made about it looking similar to the 500.

We're going to get dumped on until Sunday, so unless you guys really want to see a blue Cobalt all wet underneath a dark grey sky with wet leaves and puddles everywhere, I'll wait until the sun comes out so I can give it a wash and wax, then find some nice scenery somewhere

The question remains, will bias-ply tires and Astro-ventilation make a comeback? You guys are hilarious. I'm not holding my breath for NAIAS. AH-HA and evok have said that this is the year for GMT900 debuts and the Lambdas. Of course I'd really love to be pleasantly surprised *wink* *wink*

Right....the inlets that are inward of the new turn signals in the front. Also, I'd expect the engine bay to be cleaned up for production. Those wires, cables, and such would be routed a little better.

For women: Shania Twain or Faith Hill, hands down. Ask me ten years ago and I would have said Mariah Carey, but she made a conscious decision to waste her talent. Emancipation of Mimi is horrible. Kelly Clarkson deserves some mention. Men: This one's a little muddier for me, but I'll go with Chad Kroeger and James Hetfield as two of the best male rock singers.

The 9-2x can essentially be phased out once the SportCombi arrives. With the WRX goving instant reccognizability to the Impreza line, few if any are mistaking the 9-2x for a ground-up Saab (even though it looks better as a Saab IMO). The SportCombi will probably be priced above where the 9-2x is right now, but it should be worth it to get something that's Saab to the bone. All that's missing mechanically is an AWD system. The worst part about the selling of Subaru is the fact that the B9 Tribeca based Saav might be in doubt. I could see through the ugly nose on that thing....it would look fantastic with the Saab corporate front.

Saturn, hands down. We've seen the Aura, Sky, Ion, parts of the Outlook, and the Opel Antara which will be the next Vue. All of those products are home runs. Pontiac I would say is next...if only for the GTO and the Solstice. They'll also be shedding the SV6 and the Equinox/Torrent is supposed to get an engine upgrade soon. The GP should do OK for another couple of years as long as there are incremental improvements along the way. The G6 is a new dashboard away from being a fabulous car. last place on my list is a tossup betwen Buick and Saab. Both lineups have vehicles that are all right along with vehicles that need major help. Both could serously use an infusion of RWD cars....namely a Zeta Buick sedan, Velite coupe/conv, a Zeta 9-5 replacement, and a Kappa Sonnet. Wishful thinking I know, but you get my drift.

That's exactly it. I probably would have gotten it if it was < 10 or something.

How about this gem, from my father's long-gone 1990 Lumina: "Your new Chevrolet does not have a 'break in procedure'. However, to ensure that the engine breaks in properly, follow this procedure."
