  1. It's a GM tansmission whose basic design has been in production since 2007. You have nothing to fear.
  2. Go to a u-pull-it junkyard, find yourself a GM A-body, and call it a day.
  3. Anyone want to collaborate up for one? Count me in. Shouldn't be too difficult, since this is pretty much your standard phishing scam.
  4. Not just a scam, but a scamola. The fact that he wants you to email him directly (and not through the craigslist relay servers) is a first clue. Second clue is the fact that the ad text is actually a graphic. If you want, humor him for a little while. I guarantee he'll go silent with you once you insist on seeing the truck.
  5. Can you get me an address for this guy? I need to...um....talk to him.
  6. I say that if he feels led by God back to church, at least respect his decision even if you don't really agree with it. Give him the space he needs, even if it means that you have to keep things platonic with him. Having a friendship is better than having nothing at all except a ton of hurt on both sides.
  7. Who needs a CUV? This is a steal.
  8. The 5.3L had its torque limited by the PCM so that it wouldn't rip up the transmission and cause ridiculous torque steer. I still think it'll be a wash between the two. Getting near SS level performance, good mileage, and FlexFuel for the price of a base Impala is a very tempting proposition, 20 year old platform or not.
  9. With 288hp and a better tranny this Impala will probably match, if not beat, the performance of the 5.3L Impala SS. Impressive. Would love to see the MSRP.
  10. Can we get Team Six to take out Bloomberg? He's done nothing but stupid things for NYC ever since he became mayor. This totally should have gone to the Transit Connect, especially after years upon years of reliable service privided by millions of Crown Vics.
  11. Should have gone to the Transit Connect.
  12. A production Cadillac Converj has home run written all over it.
  13. The Holden name means a LOT more to the Australians than Chevrolet does, or likely ever will. Axing the Holden name would be suicide for GM. I agree with Camino. Move along people, nothing to see here.
  14. I miss good cartoons like this one.
  15. This I can agree with, finally. Had a chance to (very briefly) drive a Volt on Friday. There's something to be said for having all your available torque at your disposal, whenever you want it. Some exterior styling bits on the Volt don't agree with me, but it's squireled its way onto my list.
  16. You could spin it any way you like. "Come check out the race-bred Cobalt SS, with its steering wheel lifted right out of the Corvette!" Why can't GM think of stuff like this? In all seriousness though, if I was wrong in my initial post (I hadn't perused the photo gallery yet), then why even make noise about a new steering wheel? The changes are hardly worth mentioning.
  17. Your pics came out great. I think it might be time for me to graduate to a dSLR. I have lots more pics that I'll be uploading this weekend. I'll add them above once they're uploaded.
  18. Y'all have two seconds to guess the new steering wheel. 2 1
  19. Disagree. Your condescending attitude towards Pontiac is showing, and it's not helping the discussion. Remember when the LaCrosse was the bottom feeder Buick in 2010? Base price for a LaCrosse CX in 2010: $27,085. Base price for the 2011 Regal: $26,245. Expected pricing for the 2012 Verano: $21000-$26000 Yep, that be a downward trend I see. Buick moved right into Pontiac's price points. Also, take a look at the average buyer age of the oh-so-effing-hip Soul and Cube. Not that far off Buick's average buyer age. And take a good look at the person driving the next Soul/Cube you see on the road. Most of the ones I've seen are.....not young.
  20. Ed Welburn toys with the idea of a Verano GS It's pretty obvious that GM is using Buick (and Chevy to a lesser extent) to fill the hole left by Pontiac. Remember at one point the LaCrosse was to be Buick's bottom feeder. Now it's the (sedan) flagship. *various misinterpretations and assumptions of what I said in my post* Buick's buyer age has been trending down for the past couple of years, starting with the Enclave. Offering a Regal that starts in the mid-high 20s and a Verano that starts in the low-mid 20s will only continue that trend. If Buick isn't really going after younger buyers, why are we even having a discussion about turning this Astra into a Buick?
  21. If it's just surface rust, it can be sandblasted off, filled (if necessary) and coated in rust-encapsulating primer. The pics are bad, but it looks like the majority of the metal could be saved. I'd be more worried about rot on the cab corners and rocker panels. Only way to fix that is to cut out the bad metal and replace it with good metal. Might not be worth the effort then. THe truck is worth a look-see, but lowball him at $1500 and see if he obliges. When you look at it, tap suspected rot hot spots with the butt end of a screwdriver. Of course, if he's throwing in all that extra sheetmetal, that changes everything.

  23. Whenever you geta chance, ask a few people if they've ever heard of a Buick Skyhawk. I'll bet they haven't. Also, do you think anyone cares about how bad the first two generations of Altima were? You can't swing a dead cat in the street without hitting an 02-up Altima. I mean, Skyhawk is a decent name on its own merit, but I think animal names for cars are passe now - unless it's cryptic or in another language. But I seriously doubt that if Buick were to give this car the name Skyhawk that people wuld be turned off by its association with H or J cars from 25-30 years ago.
  24. I prefer the look of the all-red lenses in the LED lights, but I hate it when you can actually see the individual LED bulbs. Most manufacturers that use LED taillights are guilty of this - it makes the lights look like cheap eBay specials. It's actually pretty pathetic considering that GM got it right 11 years ago:
