  1. Of those four, I think I'd take the LaX. It's got everything you're looking for, and if you get it in a darker color the oval grille doesn't have as much of an effect. Make sure you go for the alloys, though. The hubcaps look terrible. The Eco isn't such a bad engine in the Malibu. It's adequate to slightly sluggish for highway driving. Perhaps a better option might be a base G6 with the 2.4L. Heck, for 24K you could get the GTP.
  2. Not to act like an old fart on you, but I'm only ten years your senior. I remember being happy just to have a car to drive and not wanting to do anything to have it taken away from me. Since you're not worried about the safety aspect of things, look at it from another angle: catching teenagers breaking the law is better than sex for most cops. If by chance you do get caught driving that fast, don't expect to leave the cop's presence with your license still in your wallet. Just so you know, I did research the cost of some lap time on a real race track. You know what, I think it would be an awesome experience for anyone. I may try it next year. Bondurant Racing School in Phoenix, Arizona has racing/peformance driving courses ranging from $350 to $4,525, depending on duration, type of course, etc. Also, if you want to race, ask Chris Pauwels what he went through. He races the ARCA 4cyl series.
  3. Watch its spot get filled with a first-gen Prius
  4. If you're going to drive that fast, do it under controlled conditions. Do it in broad daylight, on a track, with knowledgeable people there to instruct you on the right way to drive a car safely at that speed. Your area seems very hilly with winding roads, so at 115mph chances are that the car could lose its grip on the pavement. I'm not saying that will happen, but it could, and once it does, it's in God's hands. Your reflexes aren't quick enough to get the car right again. Don't take it from me, look at what happened to Dale Earnhardt. At such high speeds, the slightest disturbnce could give you a loss of control. And he had much more safety equipment in his car than you do in the Millenia.
  5. heh. Nearly the same thing happened to me, Toni. A Toyota Corolla comes up behind me and doesn't give an inch. I run off the road and fall, but luckily there was no curb so I just went onto the grass. Usually, if there's poor visibility like a sharp turn or a uphill grade., I'll stick my left hand out and move it a bit just so people behind me see something moving in their line of sight.
  6. From the looks of it, you seem to want to spend somewhere in the mid-20s for a car. Of those cars, I like all but the Alt...I'm not convinced of Nissan's reliability and quality. Naturally, I'd hope you'd pick one of the GMs, but there's no denying that the Accord is a good car. I wouldn't worry too much about the six-speed in the Aura. AFAIK the new RWD six speeds haven't been a problem, and while they share nothing with the FWD trannies, it does give an indication of GM's ability to make relatively bug free trannies the first time. Have you also considered a Fusion/Milan or 500/Montego? Would you go CPO, as in used CTS, Deville, LeSabre, or PA?
  7. You move way too fast when you take videos. I got seasick just watching them j/k She sounds great and drives smooth.
  8. Is this MY04 or CY04. If it's MY04, I'd like to see what MY05 looks like, with the Hemi LX cars and the new Mustang GT.
  9. NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Actually, I see a ton of the 78-81 "refreshed" 2nd-gen. There's at least one at every cruise night I go to.
  10. I think it might just be the (lack of) lighting playing tricks on us.
  11. Torch red is hot....the best GM color of the 90s. I think even Victory red is a letdown compared to it. IThat color, coombined with the tasteful chrome trim on the Malibu, is going to make for one sweet ride. Just one question: Did they paint the jambs or just the outside? Glad to see you like Hagar too.
  12. Estimated range left on the tank :AH-HA_wink:

    GMI

Not to mention that we'd have TWO wpbharries. One is enough.
  14. I fell off my bike two weeks ago and would have cracked my head on concrete had I not been wearing a helmet. Luckily it was just a bruised shoulder and ribs. It was a somewhat painful way to learn the importance of tightening handlebars after you adust them.
  15. 26.x in all-city driving. It goes down a bit in the winter.

    GMI

    They're still around: http://www.gminsidenews.com/
  17. I don't have much to say, other that they're very plush vehicles to ride in. I guess the same thing that applies to all high-end 90s GM vehicles also applies to them: make sure you find one that's been well taken care of. They can be very expensive to fix when something goes wrong, and a car that was neglected or abused will be a nightmare for you. If it was owned by an elderly person who used it occasionally for a night on the town, go for it.
  18. I dunno. I kind of like the orange ones. If you do go with clear lenses, at least make sure you use amber bulbs. If you don't, and you get a cop who wants to break your shoes, he may ticket you.
  19. Those gravity-feed HVLP guns are awesome. They put more paint on the car with much less overspray. My father has a Snap-on Excalibur that cost a pretty penny but yields a finish that's nothing short of brilliant. You can set up a makeshift booth in a barn/shed/garage with some house air filters, a largish fan like an old attic fan, and some plastic. Cover the front door with the plastic, and make a cutout for the fan. Set up the fan so it blows outward. Then, put the filters over places where air can be drawn in. Of course, the most important thing: get a good painting mask. We don't want you dying on us, or losing enough brain cells to jusify buying a beige Camry 4cyl.
  20. I think eBay just cursed at me in German

    Yay

We were also narrowly missed by Bob in '91. The eye passed just east of Montauk. It was a Cat-3 when it hit us, but since the wind direction was opposite the direction of the hurricane itself), we 'only' got winds around 70mph.
  22. How about a compact 3dr RSX style hot hatch?
  23. z28luvr01

    Yay

The Atlantic waters are significantly warmer than normal for this time of the year. A Cat-3 hurricane could very well make it up here. Due to the population density in the Northeast, we only need a Cat-3 to cause Cat-5 levels of damage.
  24. You've made a wise choice to join the Cobalt mafia. Let me show you around.... Glad you had a good time, NOS. It's no secret that Cobalt SSs are a hoot to drive. If I was willing to pay for the premium gas and deal with the lower MPGs, I'd have gotten one. Cobalts are solid and tight vehicles, with handling prowess your Camaro could only dream of. That's a pretty darn good price he quoted you, given that my car, before discounts, stickered for a few hundred less than that.

    ....

I like it, a lot. Overall, the look is more solid and substantial than the previous generations. It's as bold as "tastefully restrained" can go, but still way less a "forced" design like the tacked-on-testosterone Ram or new Tundra. As for the front, i'm sure there'll be plain black for the "Work Truck" variants and body color for the upscale/SS versions.
