GM Studies Killing Saab, Saturn, Pontiac
BuddyP replied to Oracle of Delphi's topic in General Motors
Thank our Gov't for all the mandates/testing/layer fee's/ect. responsable for raising the cost of vehicles. I drove a 3.6L G8 and really like it. Was very comfortable in the car. I'm 6'-3" and while I like our Aura, It's a bit on the small side for me. -

..."I'd rather see 2 good Buicks and 3 good Pontiacs than a full lineup of compromise/ badge cars. "... Amen! Ditch the G3 and G5... stop listening to dealers b***hing just because they want car "A" to sell. That is the poorest excuse to create a rebadge. Pontiac: Ditch the G3 and G5 - If Saturn dies then replace G5 with Astra. Solstice get's people in the showroom G8... need that 4 cyl turbo with 28-30 mpg's hwy, and market the crap out of it. G6, nice exterior refresh for '09. Now let's work on some refreshing of the interior. Torrent, either make it as unique to the Equinox as the Acadia is to the Enclave or cut it from the lineup. NO MORE CHINESE MOTORS! This is another good candidate for a turbo 4 for milage and power....OR.... if Saturn does die, replace torrant with Vue. Also the Outlook could be used (give it a new name or whatever) but give it a true "performance" upgrade to be a "poor man's Cayanne (spelling) so to speak. But I'm not too giddy about keeping a 4th Lambda. Buick: Other than the enclave, nothing really going on there. Enclave should be SRX replacement. Then either ditch Buick instead of Pontiac or give it a whole new lineup... either option is costly, Buick NA is in a bad spot. I do NOT want to see GM start importing chinese Buicks into this country. -
The Volt exists because of the EV1, you could probably almost say the Prius might even exist because of the EV1?

I remember those, I liked the color coded wheels. 252k miles on our '00 Alero quad 4

I can understand Saab and Hummer since they are not "true" GM brands (they are recent), maybe even Saturn, but the Pontiac name is GM to heart. I'm not sure that I'm going to like the outcome of GM. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,460085,00.html

Today's media is going to kill this country... This is insane. Our president needs a very well protected vehicle. Can you guys imagine a Mariner hybrid after being loaded down with another ton of armor?! These people use no thought process at all.

That sucks! Not sure what to tell ya. Did you take it to Voderman? That's right down the street from work.

I don't care about China, nor do I EVER want to see a chinese Buick be imported into the US. -

This absoluty ferusterates me... Why does Pontiac keep getting on the list for the chopping block but nothing is ever said about Buick? I'd have to go back and look at the numbers but I think Saturn even outsells Buick by a little? Heck, other than the fact that the Enclave is nicer than the Outlook, Saturn as a better lineup than Buick, and I think Saturn would even have more potential if properly marketed. But Pontiac would continue to be a top linup if they ditch the rebadged G5 and G3 for some significant variations to take their place. -

Now before I get into this, I think Pontiac should stay... G6, most unrefined between all Epsilons (Aura, Malibu) G5... we already have a Cobalt G3... we already have a Aveo Vibe... Toyota Solstice and G8 are really the only two unique vehicles they have. -
Unfortunatly, GM's death with be from the media, not the economy or lack of bailout.

Ouch! This is bad news... hopefully for this year only. http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/26/dropout...n-still-needed/

I could follow along in my 252,000 mile Alero daily driver.... It looks great on the passenger side... unfortunatly I backed over the front drivers side with the Avalanche

He's 100% right on... as I was listening to the senate and house hearings, I was completely baffled by the total lack of knowledge the politicians had in the auto industry.
-
Your exactly right, but is extremely bad PR. Even thought they have the jets, considering who they are dealing with (gov't and media) they should've came to DC knowing they had to ride in a commercial flight and take an extremly minimal salary for '09. Right or wrong, it's just the picture it paints. This move alone could effect their sales.
-
Yeah, read that a couple days ago and meant to post it. If a Chinese company bought GM I would no longer have any GM vehicle in my driveway. But I really doubt this will happen.
-
Am listening to CSPAN today. A rep from NY asked "raise your hand if you flew here commercially" of course nobody did..."raise your hand if your going to sell your personal jet and fly home commercially", of course no hands raised. I know that would be kinda hard to do but it's the point. He continued on with "you flew in with a private jet then walk off it with a tin can". Another rep asked Wagoner if he was willing to work for $1 for '09. He said he had no thoughts on that at this time. Mullaley was asked the same thing and basically said the same thing. They just dug their graves. I'm sorry, but being in this type of mess I would've already planned on working for $1 for '09 if I was in that spot. I think it's going to take Chapt. 11 for GM to really get on the right track. GM !!!NEEDS!!! a car got in the top seat. GM's engineering/design dept's are fabulous and are being held back by exec's and bean counters. The beaurocracy has to go! And the bailout/loan will not fix that.
-
You know, originally I was 50/50 for the loan, but am kinda backing off from it today after hearing the House session with Wagoner, Nardelli and Mulalley. It just doesn't sound like they will try to change, more Wagoner than anybody else. As long as GM will keep going, I'm all for Chapter 11. I know it's going to be difficult for many, but it's going to be that way for many either way. And I don't trust the gov't enough to set enough legislature to keep the exec's from continuing on the same path Look... GM has a fantastic engineering/design dept. But managment/bean counters need to go, along with all the beaurocracy. PS.. I know my spelling sucks.
-
Fun in theory though haha! It's amazing just how much $2 billion is when you start punchin numbers.
-
Kinda just a random thought.... but not out of the question. We've all heard of "employee owned" companies, what about many members of C&G owning a large percentage of GM?? I bet we could do considerably better than Kerkorkian! I'm far from rich, but times that by many... Just think of all the combined resources the people of this forum have. Mmmmm........???

What will it take for the UAW to go away perminantly?
BuddyP replied to BuddyP's topic in The Lounge
It has nothing to do with screwing people over. I believe in an honest days wage for an honest days work.... Now, how about those that want to work or teach and NOT be part of the union? They don't have a choice and are forced into it. Ironically enough, when my wife and I were staying at a B&B in Charlevoix over Labor day, I was talking with a guy that works at the CTS plant in Lansing. For whatever reason Unions came up. He blatently said "I cringe every time the union dues come out of my check"... "saves the lazy persons job" and went on how he thought they were corrupt and how the union uppers would help each others kids get jobs above those who had more seniority. Maybe it's just the Delta twp plant, but I doubt it. I think it goes both ways. -
Curious to hear some takes on this.....

What crap... the only part I kinda agree with is that they need a swift kick in the ass.
