I'll wait to see if this is for sure a April Fools joke or not before I comment..... -
General Motors Chief Rick Wagoner Said to Step Down

I'm not saying people didn't want cars but with roughly 1 million GM truck buyers and 1 million Ford truck buyers yearly (and none of this includes SUV's or Dodge truck and SUV numbers) they were selling what the market wanted. But yes GM needed a good small car, they have one now (Malibu/Aura) but is a few years too late. But Toyota also saw the light with the trucks, but came into the market right at the wrong time. But since trucks get worse milage and GM had most of em.. they get the bashing. You also gotta admit the media helped Toyota/Honda car sales. I still can't get over how anybody could buy the early/mid '00 Camry's, never seen such an awful looking car. -

But people wanted trucks and SUV's and GM built what the people wanted. But yes we all know they have been slow in area's they shouldn't have been. Agree 100%, like I stated earlier.. let em go Bankrupt and get it done and over with so they can come out fresh, lean and mean. But the existing Gov't won't let the unions die. -

We're talking about a guy that doesn't want an abundance of trucks "dumped" in the market and doens't want to drill offshore or inland, now he's got ahold of a huge auto company that will have to follow what HE wants... Think about that for awhile. -

Well let's see, if you have a drastic green enviromental plan, and can have control/leverage in a car company (or two), wouldn't you now be able to tell them what type of car will be built? And with not agreeing with the last 2 business plans they had (not green enough) that pretty much spells it all out. -

The Obama administration weighs splitting GM into two companies. Cerberus Capital Management will reportedly lose its stake in Chrysler. http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Inves...hes-033109.aspx So much for that...... -
He's right on. This is what scares me the most about Obbie taking ahold of GM. Bye Corvette, Bye Camaro, Goodbye any cool car they still have. Hello cookie cutter car.... basically Hello sister company of Toyota. I already see the decline of "car guys" at surrounding car shows. It's the same guys and same cars year after year... getting rougher and rougher shape. No new guys or new cars. It's dwindling. Woodward dreamcruise 2008 had a considerably lower turnout than previous years also.

Are existing GM employee's excluded? Serious question.

Nicly summed up! So you must be against Obama's way of foriegn military policies since he's now turning right back to the Bush policies. -

It's a power grab in general. He's says in his speech today that the gov't doesn't want to intervien with GM's business, yet goes on to say how they are going to get involved. Which is Mr. Obama? I know the only reason Wagoner is gone is just a scapegoat for Obama to throw more money and them (READ: save/bailout the UAW) and not have the US citizens in a uproar about giving them more money. Not saying Rick shouldn't have been let go, but this should've been no place for Obbie to get involved in. McCain said pre-election to let GM go bankrupt... as I see it now, he was right. Just as he was several years back in predicting and warning about the housing bubble. As far as the president, yeah it's amazing as to how many people are brainwashed to follow this messiah. Fortunatly some are starting to see the light. His poll numbers are falling like the DOW. What he said pre election is now the complete opposite now that he's in power.... I could go on and on but this isn't the place or the post for it. As far as I'm concerened, he should be the first to go. -

You know what was rubbish? When the first loan/bailout was givin, they were told "You have until the end of the year". Then it was "here's some more money, you have until the end of March". Now it's "Here's some more money, you have 60 days". WTF!!! I said from day one, let em Chapt 11, restructure and get it over with... don't drag the suffering out. It's just constantly reopening a wound. The Gov't has NO place getting in this deep in these businesses. It's nothing but a HUGE POWER GRAB. Why was Wagoner being the sole target? Why not the CFO and all of the exects? Why was Henderson put in his place no questions asked? WHY DIDN'T OBAMA GET ON THE UNION'S/GETTLEFINGERS CASE! How the F**k does some ex-community organizer know that what's good for GM. Everything this gov't and Congress has recently done is absolutly out of control. Kiss your GM goodbye folks. Say good bye to any favorite car you had. It's dead. -

They came to them for a loan.... not to beg for free money. GM is paying interest for that money. If you run a business and need to go to the bank for a business loan, they have no right to say "ok, but you need to remove yourself from the business and we'll appoint someone else to take your place". If we want to follow this all they way back when Clinton initiated the Community Reinvestment Act, which is what caused the housing bubble buildup with finally burst at the end of '08, causing the financial meltdown, maybe it was the gov't duty to provide them $$ for initially screwing up their creditors..... but that's a whole story in itself. Essentially, all the money that GM has received from the gov't, has taken place to the large sums of $$ that GM put into the unions over the past year. This is basically another UNION bailout by big brother. -

If this guy made one statement and actually stuck to it vs being nothing but lies, I may actually be able to believe this. But as of now it's a complete power trip. If they had no interest then why are they interviening (sorry about the spelling). He will do all he can to keep Chapt 11 from happening. If Chapt 11 happens, his beloved unions may be no more. -

Not for another year... which leaves him there for the next 60 days that Obbie is giving them to restructure and to come to "terms" with. -

Which is why Chapt 11 should've happened first thing. Get it done and over with vs it still straggling on and pulling our economy with it. -

Sorry but I'm still a bit irate about this, letting Wagoner go is Obama's scapegoat. Why wasn't Gettlefinger told to leave? A lot of what the UAW has done has put GM down this path? -

Dow is down 280 points due to Obama throwing out his "personal" plan to reconstruct GM/Chrystler... this just 15 min. before he is to speak about it (10:45 EST here right now). Watch for the stocks to plummet more. Obama has NO right to try and tell GM how to run it's business. This IS a sad day, for us and GM and another blow to America as a whole for '09. Obama should've been the first to go before Wagoner. GM how we know it will be dead. Cars we want/like (Corvette, Camaro, V8 G8's, anything "fun") will be gone. Don't expect a 6th gen Camaro or C7. Buy em up now and say bye. -

That's the key here... Congress screwed that up bad with just handing over $$ with no concessions (Thanks Barney and Dodd!), now since people are getting upset about the ordeal, Obama's going to put on a "hardass" face and throw his power around to GM to make it look like he's "being tough". Look, whether or not Wagoner needed to go is one thing, I'm not arguing that. However the Gov't has NO right to come in and tell a business who's gotta go and who's staying. Looking back pre election, once again I see another thing that McCain was right about.... let them go Chapt 11, restructure and come out lean with next to NO Gov't intervention. I cannot stress enough about how disappointed I am with our current governing body (President through Congress) -
And irronically my daily driver is a '00 Alero with 259,XXX miles on it. Just had to replace the alternator 2 weeks ago. Wifey bought this car in '01 with 30k on the clock. We met when it had 50k on the clock. I took it over at around 230k miles. Had a fuel pump harness that kept it from starting a couple times a couple years back. Found out it was a recall (from prior owner) that was improperly installed. Had it corrected and no problems since. Had a oil sending unit seal leak and had that replaced at around 180k. Other than that we've done front struts, front wheel bearings and then the usual tires and brakes. Can't complain, it's been a good car.

STUDY: More buyers avoiding GM, Chrysler during rescue

Exactly... It takes money to make money. Bean counters do NOT understand this.

CEO Wagoner has lost more money than any CEO ever!
BuddyP replied to 01Malibu's topic in General Motors
I think every CEO of every car company right now has lost more money than any other CEO within their brand. -
After being owner of a Aura XR, and having driven a 3.6L G8, I can clearly say the G8 is a nicer car. Don't get me wrong, we really like the aura but the suspension and overall interior comfort of the G8 is a whole lot better. The Aura's got more umph though.
