  1. Dude if Cadillac just expanded to 10 models in the proper segments they would be capable of beating Benz's sales I'm willing to bet. The day that Benz decided that it was OK to compete with the Civic (CLA250), and Equinox(GLA) they lost all respect as a real luxo maker. What makes me say that isn't the size.. but the POS vehicles that came outta that decision. HAVE U BEEN IN A CLA? It has more in common with an Elantra than a C-Class. And I'm not talking about which wheels are driven either.
  2. THIS!!! ^^^ All Day EVERY DAY. And for some reason the Smk guy.. nor the press understands that if one company is selling 6 vehicles and the other is selling 16.. surely the one selling 16 will have higher sales. I see nothing special about a MB these days as they are everywhere and mostly via cheaper models on the low end like CLA, C_Class, and GLKs A truer analysis of this.. a less biased one would actually realize not only that, but in reality AUDI's sales are a wee bit pathetic considering that they have 12 vehicle on sale and are YTD only 130,983 vs Cadillac with 1/2 Audi's line-up and a lot less bases covered at 127, 837.. a difference of 3146. Furthermore Cadillac is doing this with higher ATPS, not introducing cheaper models, and a bit more upheaval.
  3. I totally agree with you Balthazar, It makes me mad that the new leader of Cadillac thinks I am too stupid to know the difference between an Escalade and an Eldorado! Why shouldn't he? The Competition believes it more so and they have the sales to back it up. In this case, most buyers of luxury auto's have a much higher education, so lets not put them into the same demographic of idiots that cannot read past 7th grade newspaper level and want to be a lemming. Let Chevy sale to the Lemmings to compete against Camry. Let the educate people that want to stand out, buy the Escalade, Eldorado, Brougham, etc. We want to be talked to, not talked at! No offense cause we agree on a lotta things, but this one.. the names.. I think U and a lot of people are not seeing the big, as in global, picture.
  4. Knu this ugly to me, but cute to some girls lil mofo was gonna be a hit. Good job Chevy.. and its not a bad driver either for what it is. Certainly better than that Datsun and Nissan BS
  5. I totally agree with you Balthazar, It makes me mad that the new leader of Cadillac thinks I am too stupid to know the difference between an Escalade and an Eldorado! Why shouldn't he? The Competition believes it more so and they have the sales to back it up.
  6. They don't have much of a choice. Have U tried to speak to a typical car buyer these days? Many are blatant idiots and completely go with what the popular decision by the many. That pretty much explains this: sales of the Toyota Camry 2014 YTD 334,978.
  7. To be clear the SRX is not on the same platform as the Equinox. The only vehicle that the SRX was completely related to was the Saab 9-4x. The Alpha platform is a CADILLAC developed platform that will be given to a Camaro which reaches well into the $80K range now.. The Escalade shares a platform with the Tahoe which easily goes into the $70K range. Even more clear is the fact that your question about what is the point of Cadillac as a luxury brand if Chevy and Buick are as good as a BMW is negligent. It just stands to reason that GM is putting out cars that are so damn good these days that their lowest offering is equal in most ways to the competition's best. ^^^ Point of fact. The Chevy Corvette is on the same level as 911 Carrera 4S and the Z06 is on the level of the 911Turbo and GT3 for that matter. Can U really argue that overall a Chevy SS isn't a viable competitor to the 550i? What's the difference? Marketing. GM needs a luxo brand that can compete on the MARKETING front. People on forums bitch about the non-names, but really the majority of those bitching aren't buying, can't buy, or wouldn't really swayed if they had the money to. The people who are buying, can afford the luxo segment could care less. THEY DRIVE A BMW, BENZ, A CADILLAC!!! They do not drive a 3series, an A6,, an XJ, or a CLS. I have never.. never heard of someone saying "I drive a GL450.." Never. They literally say "yeah that's my BENZ truck." The only vehicles in this segment that get this special treatment is the Escalade, Range Rover and Navigator. Point is the marketing is usually on the name of the brand not the model. I wish Cadillac had of either went fully back to names or made the names even more generic. The Series 40, 50, 60, 70 would have been ideal.. but then again when those names were the norm, SUVs and CUVs were not considered luxury. And to revisit your statement about sharing. Who cares? Only the self loathing American. BMW is fundamentally nothing special. Audi is in many cases a VW.. a effin VW. For years Bentley used an OHV engine designed by GM and Rolls used a GM tranny. PERCEPTION??? Teh only reason why Benz and BMW get a pass is because they are not owned by a parent. They exist on their own. If U really think that if Benz had a "Chevy division" they wouldn't platform share then U really haven't been paying attention to their sudden shift to cheap POS cars like the CLA and GLA to to gain market share.
  8. Goes to baseline. To build from within outward as opposed to building from the bottom or top. In truth the best thing for Cadillac in terms of market share would have been to simply have reset the names at ATS launch, or simply called the ATS the CTS and the new CTS the STS. This would have prevented the public with having to get to kno a whole new name for the entry level vehicle since it was, for 10 years, the entry level Cadillac. Problem came when Lutz and John Heinricy pushed the CTS-V up against the M5 and it won. Suddenly the CTS could no longer be considered "entry."
  9. Ridiculous. The majority of Cadillacs being sold now do not have the same platform as a Chevy. Not the SRX, not the CTS, and not the ATS. The CT6 will be autonomous as well. Only the Escalade, ELR, and XTS share a platform with a Chevy. What makes your statement even more ridiculous.. or more respectfully.. irrelevant is that the platforms under Chevys are just as good as the ones under Audis, Benzes, or BMWs. Make no mistake that marketing.. which goes to perception.. is the only real differentiation between a Camaro and a 6series in terms of drivability. Price certainly determines the type of leather, and addition tech.. but those are in reality add-ons. The Engines??? Please. No matter the engine in the Chevy.. or Cadillac being an OHV SBC or an OHC Northstar, some idiot is gonna say that it's a Chevy engine if for no other reason than to try and belittle the vehicle because #1 its a GM, or #2 its a Domestic. Again with the sad sorry self worth of the American people who would rather see all things foreign being superior over all things domestic, including themselves.
  10. Outside of the possibility of the sub-ATS, and of course not going against all the other luxo makers on the planet and giving them names, what exactly is the issue with the product push? U wanna see some confusing BS take a look over at Mercedes now peddling the greatness of their luxury edge with a $33K GLA and a $29K CLA. The problem with that discontent is that it is actually working in terms of profits for Daimler. Sorry.. passion is nice and all, but if Cadillac doesn't expand and make more money for GM independently.. GM will kill it and we will all be crying in out coffee. Don't get me wrong. Cadillac is currently profitable, but is it $2 Billion a quarter profitable? The bottom line is that Johan was given a directive, and in return he asked for autonomy and the ability to make moves. I think the very addition of extra vehicles to the line-up will be the best way to bring Cadillac back to the forefront. I have yet to see any vehicle in the last 5 years that Caddy has introduced as an embarrassment. Not even the ELR.
  11. lowered the seat yes, but the pancake roof, while looking sexy, is still too low in relation, and the height of the side glass just ain't that much. The proportion of the length of the greenhouse glass to the height is exaggerated due to styling. Overall, like i said, i can forgive a lot on the car due to styling. But its definitely not an open air car. Reminds me of my father in laws 08 grand prix which i drove today. Same disease, just not as bad.....roof feels like its right on top of you. I would imagine a moonroof would help that feeling. Just to know too, the Taurus has some of that bunker feel going on too. A lot of cars do. Thats just my opinion, your results may vary. I'm certainly not trying to force an opinion on someone else, especially someone who owns the car. As far as the 4 cylinder, its puzzling to me. I really do think its there for fleet cars and because of EPA pressures. Its like GM never got time to do the best job of it in this vehicle. I think if they spend some time retuning the engine, the trans and shifting, and maybe work with changing the gearing, that maybe they get it so its at least drivable. Anyone who owns the 4 cylinder will learn how to drive it more smoothly over time of course, but they will be compensating for how clumsy it is. They won't be driving it the way they want. maybe its because I have the dual sunroof.. and would never buy a car of this caliber without it. ALTHO.... when I put the sunshade up.. I still have no issues with headroom in the car. I still have no issue with the visibility of the vehicle, even when I'm dodging in and out of traffic at 90mph
  12. I agree. I think its possible we might see the original IMPALA PLAN that was scraped return using Omega instead of Zeta and effectively merging the Impala with the Caprice and SS. Decontented a bit from the Cadillac, I could even see them simply calling it something else like Zeta II. Similar in fashion to how Sigma and Zeta were related
  13. As an owner of an Impala LTZ 3.6L, I have to ask why anyone would even remotely buy, or expect stellar performance from the 2.5L. The car is 3800lbs. In my 3.6L powered Impala I have yet to ever actually need more power. Would I desire the TT3.6L? Sure. But I have no issue with what I have and in fact have been capable of pounding everything from the smaller Maxima to the similar sized Acura TL. It moves!!! And with 19K on the odo it seems to move even faster than it did when it was doing last year. Also in terms of the other complaint about the windows being "gunslit." I respectfully disagree. I have in those 19K miles of driving never had issue with visability.. and that's with 20% tint. Maybe its because the car that this replaced was a 2011 Camaro. I also find it contradictory when U say "Seating all around is very comfortable" but then say "Yup, like so many recent GM products, its a bit of a claustrophobic bunker." To me the cabin is airy and spacious and I'm 6'3, 218lbs. I would ask did U try and simply lower the seat?
  14. Oh.. and DAMN IT.. I voted U up by mistake and it wouldn't let me take it back. If there is an Admin able to change my voting up of Smk's #26 post please do so. I pretty much hate the very keyboard his German lovin ass types from and would never vote his propaganda up.
  15. As always I have to call U out on your hypocrisy. What is it with U and the names? Show me a German car that U worship with a real name? Second. The "failed 8-6-4" engine was ahead of its time. Innovation that relied on vacuums and contemporary, at the time electronics from the 70s and 80s while actually needing the more precise, and future computing to do the job. The current AFM programs are quite nice. BTW.. the Cimmaron was not a bad car.. it was just a blatant rebadge of a much lower car. Benz technically is doing the exact same thing with the CLA, but because it's donor car isn't sold here in the U.S... its getting away from it. Hence my reason for sayin that the sub-ATS, if not based on Alpha should certainly be modeled on the next Astra and not directly off the Cruze. Altho... the that might actually not be that big of a deal either considering that the styling of the Cadillac version would be much further removed NOW than they did back when the almost identical to Cavalier looking Cimmaron debuted in '81. Again I won't deny that Cadillac (and Lincoln) fell behind in catering to to the main group of luxury buyers in the (at the time) world's largest market, but that does not necessarily make them failures either. The point is that Cadillac now designs a more Ultimate Driving Machine within a particular segment than the supposed "Ultimate Driving Machine." ForGODSAKE.. the current BMW's saving grace in every effing comparo is it's extra back-seat room. Alas.. the 5series will have to get larger because if it now.. as I suspect greatly that the 3series 10K per month sales are coming from some of the higher ATP 5/6series sales.
  16. ^^^ Well technically the CL-Class wa sthe S-Class coupe.. but I agree with what U are saying. Smky wants Cadillac to implement product push the day after the concept is intro'ed, but gives his precious Germans a pass when they don't How the EFF, anyone takes him as anything serious and anything but an annoyance is beyond me. Based on the things he posts I would venture to say he was born in the 90s.. late 90s at that and really has no clue about the history of the brands he speaks about. FYI Smky.. at one time, not more than 20 year ago a Cadillac was literally considered to be above the level of the equivalent Mercedes and above anything from BMW. I drove one of these to Prom.. Pearl white tho in 1990.. and U would have thought I was the President the props given by students and teachers alike. When I took my date to the one of the nicest Restaurants in town, the Valets were pushing to get to park it up front. At the time it was 5 years old already and the design itself had debuted 10 years earlier. By contrast this is the boring $h! that Mercedes was pusing out as the flagship from the same perior
  17. NO. The image was fine for the first part of the decade. But unfortunately.. by the time Bush and Cheney drained our coffers in late '07... we were living in a country of whiners and politically correct flag waivers. The H2 was the epitome of IN YOUR EFFIN FACE I NOT ONLY HAVE MOBEY TO BUY THIS TRUCK.. I GOT MONEY TO LITERALLY BURN (in the gas tank)!!! Some one driving a sissy ass Corolla just couldn't deal with it.
  18. I was talking about bespoke luxury. The Sport Lux is what the Germans, mostly BMW, brought to the table. The simple fact is that in the 70s.. America, the largest market for another 30 years, was in love with comfort over all else.
  19. On the contrary. The ATS may have benchmarked the 3Series, but it benchmarked the 3series and improved upon it. Thus in regards to everything except the 1 inch extra backseat room.. what the EFF do I care.. it is a better driver's luxury car. The CTS is leaps, excuse the pun, ahead of the Jag XF. In truth... U are full of $h!. The reality is that the luxury segment is a segment that was originally copied by the Germans from America. I think in reality if Cadillac invented the flying car U'd try and figure out some way or another that they copied something from Germany.
  20. ^^^ Good posts, both of U.. The deal here is simple. GMC should be about premium trucks, SUVs, and CUVs. Buick should be about premium cars, with a few CUVs. GMC has the chops to pull off a revisit of Hummer. GMC has the chops to pummel Jeep. GM just needs to have the chops to allow it. Side bar. I chucked last night coming out of the Outback Steakhouse with a few friends and family as one of the kids, 11 years old had never seen my Impala LTZ. He exclaimed "Wow uncle Cmi... your new car looks waaaay more expensive than dad's car." His dad has a 2010 Benz E550. His dad just dropped his head. My point is that GM has the ability to build cars and trucks that are premium and mainstream with out the price that normally come with it
  21. As I said before.. what U and yours.. as in Benz/BMW/Audi Groupies have done is wake up a genuine iconic luxury brand that has real heritage. How moronic would it be to price their 7series competitor at the same price as the 5series (CTS)? Bet good money that the CT6 starts at no less than $69K.. altho I'm betting at least $4K more. Lastly on that subject ... the ATS is already selling well pertaining to the proportion of the market they are targeting. U can not sell in the same GOD DAMN numbers as the 3series and C-Class if U only have one way of ordering for 99% of the car's existence. Get it thru your head. Your constant mis-observations are ridiculous, futile, and nauseating. To have the power of Google, supposed auto knowledge and a wee bit of common sense.. one would think U would stop repeating this constantly The CT6 is gonna be on the level of the S-Class and GM has literally undersold it. Hell.. in reality one could easily place and existing XTS-VSport in the same realm or performance and luxury as the 750i and previous gen S550. U kno it, but won't admit it. The CT6 is gonna be a more technological and advance luxo big car. (at 203 inches) It will be as big as the S-Class and larger than the 7series. Again Cadillac and GM are doing nothing short of under-promising. Its would absolutely idiotic for them to come out and say THIS IS AN S-CLASS BEATER. The press would gauge it from that perspective exclusively. I think this strategy is brilliant. CT8 and 9 will be marketed as the real S-Class beater but in reality be more in line with the Flying Spur and onward to the Phantom. MArk my words 3-5 years behind in what right now??? Enlighten us
  22. Finally!!! We disagree. I see his strategy and I for the most part (90%) like it. With exception to the FWD sub-model I think his plan is sound. I kno, from reading your posts, that U hate the new designations/names, but it is not an issue for me as the current names were no better, no less. Furthermore the XTS apparently not dying, but spiritually moving to Omega via the CT6, probably soldiering on in an Impala Limited fashion for fleet the Omega platform will underpin not only a possible 2016 Cadillac CT6, but a CT8 and 9 in 2018 or '19. C/D speculated this as far back as 2013 saying that the CT6 (at time thought be LTS) its styling will morph from notchback to a sleeker fastback like the Audi A7. Also I don't see how Audi was screwed up. They are the golden boy of the Luxo makers these days. Infiniti is not "Cadillac." Many I kno only see them as an upgraded Nissan. Their styling is disgusting and their sales have NOTHING to do with the names. Anyone who walked into an Infinti dealer and couldn't find a G sedan/coupe simply didn't ask the salesman.. or hell receptionist... on the floor that day.
  23. When I was at GMI (LovelyMoon) I expressed not having an issue with a Cadillac based on the Delta platform as I continue to think that it is a better platform, and in it's current Cruze/Verano/Astra uses, produces superior cars over the Mercedes CLA. That being said.. I agree with U that Cadillac, at the moment does not need a sub-ATS. What it does need is derivatives of the ATS such as a CUVand sports car
  24. I love everything I read except the part about vehicles being based off the Cruze. Not that its not an awesome vehicle in and of itself, but we were told by Uwe that RWD was the way of the future. And 4GODSAKE.. I don't want an awkward looking CLA-ish Cadillac running the streets. I would imagine that on the sub-ATS front having FWD would not be necessary a bad thing if it is set up in an Astra OPC kinda fashion.
