Cadillac News: Cadillac's Upcoming Flagship Has A Name: CT6
Cmicasa the Great replied to William Maley's topic in Cadillac
It has EVERYTHING to do with current models. Hence the CT part being associated with the CTS as the centerpiece of the line-up. In fact before the BK.. the car was supposed to have been called DT7 on Zeta. The DTS was the inspiration and at the time was the centerpiece to Cadillac's line-up of CARS.- 113 replies

As much as I loved the LS7 I think the LSA and 9 were better situated motors in terms of available punch. The LT4 .. and in a way the LT1 have take it to the next level. This is the reason why the LT1 powered heavier Stingrays are pulling in times that are almost exactly the same as the lighter LS7 Z06s. The next gen Z28.. if it comes to fruition will most likely get the next iteration of the NA LTx motor, which I could easily see being stock.. 490-500HP.

Sonder means "Special" in German. The S-Class isn't actually that special. I truly believe that if Cadillac simply follows the lead of the CTS Premium in a larger, more powerful and appropriately stocked CT6 they will have a better car than the S550. U continue to talk it up, but it really isn't that "special" in terms of anything. The powertrains are humdrum for the segment. Audi outdoes it in performance. The looks inside and out are not only rudimentary , but in some ways horrible. Cadillac will easily triumph in that department. Back to powertrains I will be very surprised if the based model has anything less than performance times that beat the A8 3.0L and Vsport times that run down the S63AMG. That's a fact. I won't even get into what I'm thinking the VSeries would tout. Luxury??? Come on. the ATS Premium, CTS, ELR, and Escalade are just 50% of what I think the CT6 is gonna represent in this regard. Also.. since conquest buyers coming into GM were mostly foreign buyers.. that statement is false.- 113 replies

Using Series makes far more sense to me a 46 year old Cadillac lover than the CT crap that I feel cheapens the line. Taking nothing away from Corvette, but you have a C6 corvette and now you want a CT6 100K lux sedan? This cheapens the branding to me, does not help it. uuum pertaining to the Corvette the "C6" stuff really wasn't (and still isn't) a mainstream thing until the C5 hit. The C4 designation was an internal talking point from I remember.. When the C5 broke cover people in the magazines started referring to it as a C5. Most people still do not know what the hell U are talking about if when U say I have a C7.- 113 replies

Well. I stand by the idea that I neither love nor hate the decision made.. and see a business case for it and the use of classical names. But it just shows the passion.. love or hate for the Cadillac brand in that so many are speaking out or against a SIMPLE NAME. I for one always felt the names used since I was born (42 years ago) were indicative of decadence.. and appealed more to the older generation. A clean break is what is going on, and the idea of serious change must be embraced. The car is what should do the talking and define what the name is.. not the other way around. CTS meant Cadillac Touring Sedan, but was also attached to the Coupe. SRX meant Sevile Road-going Crossover, as STS meant Seville Touring Sedan. XLR? Xtreme Luxury Roadster. BLS? B-Class Luxury Sedan. After that it got as muddled as the Germans The Brits started this BS.. For instance the S_Class technically shouldn't even be an "S." it should be an "F." Not one of the current large luxo brigade uses the F to denote full-size luxo The E-Class is properly named.. The CTS, 5series, A6, XJ, and GS don't denote that they are part of the EXECUTIVE class by name. The Entry Class.. represented by the 3Series, C-Class, ATS, IS, upcoming XE should all be called "Ds. The supposed C-Class in other words really should be a "D-Class." The CLA is kind of a real C-Class.. but technically because its based off a subcompact.. should really be the B-Class or BLA Point is that there is no consistency thru out the segment.. no logic, and nothing to (female dog) about. to Drew. Yeah I could have totally understood the use of the Series names because they would not only fit, but reference back to heritage. Of course we would have some of the ignorant and uninformed saying that using "Series" was stealing from BMW.. and not the other way around- 113 replies

The Best Driver’s Car contenders are selected from all new or significantly revised performance cars launched in the 12 months prior to the test. To pick the winner, the editors of Motor Trend conduct objective and subjective testing – including digitally instrumented laps at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, and high-speed driving up and down a 4.3-mile hill climb on a closed rural highway – to determine which car delivers the most engaging experience behind the wheel. After completing that battery of tests, the editors of Motor Trend wrote: “The transformation of the fifth-generation Camaro from ‘muscle car that handles pretty well’ to Best Driver’s Car winner is astounding. You feel the superior engineering in how the car responds to inputs both internal and external. From within, the car reacts immediately and precisely to your commands but doesn’t punish your mistakes. From the outside, the Z/28’s suspension attacks bumps and dips with an unbridled passion for keeping the tires on the pavement.” Previous winners of Motor Trend’s Best Driver Car award were: 2007 Porsche 911 GT3 2008 Audi R8 2009 Porsche Cayman S 2011 Ferrari 458 Italia 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera 2S Porsche 911 Carrera 4S “The mission for the new Z/28 was to create the most capable, best-handling Camaro in our history,” said Mark Reuss, General Motors’ executive vice president, Global Product Development. “As such, I can’t think of a better validation of that mission than for the Z/28 to be named Motor Trend’s Best Driver’s Car.” The Camaro Z/28 builds on the legacy of the original SCCA Trans Am-series contender introduced in 1967. Its unique exterior is designed like a race car to produce downforce that presses the car against the track for greater grip and faster lap times. Comprehensive chassis and suspension changes, including a lower center of gravity, specific stabilizer bars, higher-rate coil springs and other chassis and suspension features have been optimized for the track – enabling more than 1.08 g in lateral acceleration and 1.5 g in deceleration. Racing-bred dampers, tires and Brembo carbon ceramic brakes play important roles in not only maximizing performance, but making it more predictable and consistent with every lap. Engineers also made sure the Z/28 was as light as possible to maximize its power-to-weight ratio. Everything from lightweight wheels to thinner rear-window glass is used to reduce curb weight and improve the overall weight balance. The carbon ceramic brake rotors, for example, collectively save more than 20 pounds of unsprung weight, compared to the Camaro SS. In fact, 100 percent of the unsprung mass – suspension, wheels, tires and brake system – has been changed from the Camaro SS, dramatically enhancing the balance and overall driving feel of the Z/28. A 7.0L LS7 V-8 rated at 505 horsepower (376 kW) and 481 lb-ft of torque (652 Nm) complements the lightweight vehicle components to give the car an enviable 7.6:1 power-to-weight ratio. It was bred on the racetrack, with features designed for high-rpm performance and durability, including a durable forged-steel crankshaft, lightweight titanium connecting rods and high-flow cylinder heads with lightweight titanium intake valves.http://media.chevrolet.com/media/us/en/chevrolet/news.detail.html/content/Pages/news/us/en/2014/Sep/0925-camaroz28-motortrend.html Wow... 6 years old and still racking WINS!!! I still remember people crying about the weight.. yet it continues to exceed naysayers Loves me some GM.. Loves me some Chevy... Loves me some Camaro YUM YUM. Side not.. I saw a Z28 being marked up to $85K the other day. WOW!!~

No offense, but bull$h!. This is commonly touted as "necessary", yet it has never been show to be factual in automotive history. Oh sure, some will point to well-off brands and say 'it works for them', but that's not in anyway 'proof' of anything. Bottom line is if we are gonna hate on Cadillac for doing it we must hate on all the other brands who do it too. Consistency is the absence of hypocrisy and when it comes to GM in relation to other companies... the later rules in conversation. Mercedes BMW and Audi have no real consistency at all.. In fact Mercedes is actually changing names on their products as we speak- 113 replies

Problem is those old names mean nothing to people outside of the car enthusiast crowd. Like it or not, it's the way it is. Cadillac needs naming consistency and a logical progression of model names. ^^^ This. Sorry to say that the fact that Cadillac is poised to, within the next two years sell more abroad( like Buick) than it does in its home country. The names are alphanumeric because the Global market for luxury, outside of niche, traditionally has gone with it. In the U.S. we like names, but what maker here uses names on their luxo unit? None S550, A8, LS460, XJ, and 740I don't make me wanna melt either, but the cars do the talking. Let this one. Ironically the other day in another thread someone suggested "CTS-D" which would have went off well I'm sure. I think.. and hope they started with 6 because it gives them some room to grow. CT will be the cars.. because the CTS was the launch point for their return in that regard. I would imagine that all CUV/SUVs will go with a ES since the Escalade was the start. I was told a few years ago that the "CT6" was the flagship, but there would still be cars coming in above it at a time appropriate.- 113 replies

Some of U are ridiculous. CT6 and CT5 were trademarked in JULY 21, 2014 http://gmauthority.com/blog/2014/08/general-motors-files-trademarks-for-cadillac-ct5-and-cadillac-ct6/. That date precedes the hire of de Nysschen or at least his ability to create the naming scheme. If anything it was Ellinghaus. The name is the name. I'm playing with cards dealt. I don't think a name is gonna cause this car issues. They could literally name is P1G and it would sell if it looks as good as the Elmiraj and is marketed properly.. including a price that starts around $73K and ends at $200K with a proper engines and amenities.- 113 replies

I agree partially with Balthazar... hopefully it was a tester. I wish they would rename the whole line up with names. If not make the CT6 "more than" Sclass and market it hard and it will..the name... be as irrelevant as whatever S550 or 740 means- 113 replies

Of course Smk.. The Euro Hippocryte... Range Rover is a Damn SUV maker. Which is a segment that was scoffed at when considered luxury til maybe 10 years ago. Lambo? Porsche? Mazerati? Sports cars that happen to now chase the luxury crowd. Yes. Hate a car for it's name follows the same nonsense as Benz, Lexus, BMW, and Audi. Not to mention Infinity and Acura.- 113 replies

^^^ No maker using the alphanumeric naming schemes is creative. NONE. CT6??? I would have preferred an ACTUAL name, but if CT is a spring forward and aft.. then all for it. What this suggests to me is that there is a possibility of a CT6.. but also a CT7 (Coupe).. and maybe a CT8 etc. What I find interesting is that people have issue with this being a "6" while the Benz S has an S400 or S550. Yeah it matters. Someone suggested that a CT6 might be confused with an Audi A6 competitor, but why isn't the S550 confused with an S5 competitor? In fact... the S5 is actually an A4 Coupe. It doesn't even compete with the other "5".. that being the BMW 5series with is a SEDAN not a coupe, and also comes in an ugly WAGONEER called GT.... UUUUUGH confusing. And don't get me started on Jag. I don't kno what the hell their naming scheme means anymore. They had to abandon the numbers Where is the clarity? The CT6 is fine.. not great.. because all luxury cars should have names.. but the truth is global luxury never have names unless they are limited limited limited sales like Rolls and Bentley. Marketing gave it to us, now we have it from top to bottom in 2016 MY: CT6 (CT6 VSport, Platinum, VSeries) ELR XTS CTS ATS SRX probably goes to SUV line type naming scheme centering on Escalade "ES4 " Escalade... ES8? XTS moving to Buick base don Uwe Ellinghaus saying Cadillac is going RWD/AWD only for the most part CTS becomes CT4 in 2018 with CT5 as coupe ATS becomes CT2 in 2017 with CT3 as coupe We know the ELR is getting upgraded next year, but if it contines to a second gen.. perhaps a CT-E- 113 replies

Uhh Oh... Caddy haters done gone and woke up the mighty General. I really think the naysayers who wish to see Cadillac fail should have kept their effing mouths shut. I think that we'll be seeing more range, possibly a less expensive price, and probably a performance gain. In fact I think they will most likely be debuting Voltec 2.0 in this car since the new Volt is gonna be a '16 as well.

An improved version of the 2016 Cadillac ELR plug-in hybrid is in the works, Cadillac spokesman David Caldwell confirmed for Edmunds on Monday. The 2016 ELR is expected to debut in November at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. Changes include "engineering enhancements," Caldwell said. He would not provide details on the changes. Car shoppers should expect to see the revised ELR, which was all-new for the 2014 model year, at dealerships in the first half of next year. The changes are designed to make the ELR more competitive against a growing list of rivals, including the BMW i3, Porsche Panamera SE Hybrid and Tesla Model S. The ELR is a premium version of the Chevrolet Volt. The ELR starts at $75,995, including a $995 destination charge. Pricing is before a federal tax credit of up to $7,500 and any state or local tax credits. Some Cadillac dealers have been offering incentives as high as $30,000 in order to boost sales of the ELR, according to industry analysts. "Inventory levels have come down quickly with these incentives, so I would expect them to start scaling back fairly soon," Joe Langley, a principalanalyst for IHS Automotive, told Edmunds. Caldwell said some of the large discounts were applied to "demo models" of the ELR with several hundred miles on the odometer. Car shoppers will note that there is no 2015 Cadillac ELR. Caldwell explained that this is a "technicality" based on when the car debuted around January 1, 2014. "The car is still on sale," he said. "The factory produced most of the carsthat would satisfy U.S. distribution." ELR production has been halted due to inventory and an extensive makeover of the Detroit-Hamtramck plant where the ELR is built, along with other GM cars, including the Chevrolet Impala. Caldwell said the plant is scheduled to resume production around Thanksgiving. "ELR builds will resume after the first of the year," he said. http://www.edmunds.com/car-news/improved-2016-cadillac-elr-expected-to-debut-at-2014-la-auto-show.html?SID=pg2zlw4ly8u&kw=flexibletexttool&PID=3193616&AID=10364102&mktid=cj260233&mktcat=affiliates

I like how U think, but I think there is a bit of overkill. Cadillac, trying to be a global player needs smaller displacement with big power for the mass sales. The lowest I could see them going is a 3.0L TT to achieve that 360HP mark.

U think the "LTS" will fall short because it's not European.. its American.. and U hate America it seems GM's annual R&D budget in 2011.. 2011.. 2011.. was $8.1 Billion. VW.. for 2011... 2011 was $7.7 B. That included Audi. And even more to the point is that your numbers.. as always I suspect.. show favor to the Europeans. This time in BUDGETS. So from 2014 to 2020.. VW will spend $4.6 B on Audi per year. GM will spend 6 X $8.B (on the low side using 2011 numbers) on R&D= $48 Billion. I could see GM Premium vehicles getting a nice proportion of that budget. Also counter to whatever U are smoking is telling U.. GM and VW are very very much similar to each other. In fact.. if GM gets a better handle on it's premium operations it will be capable of profits that could exceed VW Group in terms of NET. BTW, what was your point in bringing up Pontiac and Saturn? They were divisional names that did not actually need R&D budgets because they.. like Buick to Chevy/Opel were brands that received tech etc from the larger whole. They were marketing names. Even the older of those two, Pontiac, hadn't had its own engineering since the 70s

No offense.. or take offense I really don't care, but that sounds stupid. The DTS buyer is not dying out any faster than the S-Class buyer. Different income does escape the fact that the same age bout these cars. Second.. the idea that the sales of the CTS are down has more to do with the NON-FIRE Sale incentives that were on them last year and the fact that the CTS COUPE, which accounted for more than 30% of the sales is unavailable for the 2014 model.. Oh. and no NEW VSeries. Furthermore in reality CTS sales are down a total of 1363 as of Aug sales numbers. That's a 170 cars per month. ATS??? Why would I buy one if I didn't want a Sedan? Come on smart guy.. tell me? What if I wanted a Coupe? Guess I gotta go get a C-Class or a 4series.. maybe an A5? What if I want a convert? Hopefully U get the point. People buy Escalades by the boat load for well over $80K. My VCoupe, 2 years ago, cost almost $75K. Lastly, the Allante and XLR were niche products that failed because GM killed them after they didn't conquer, immediately, the competition without them ever really offering.. YUP.. U guessed it.. variations. The XLR lived on a Corvette C5 platform with a decent engine at launch, but 2 years later... the C6 debuted with more power.. 3 years after that.. they gave the base Corvette the LS3 with almost exactly the same power as the XLR-V (7hp less than the 4.4L S/C) and the Corvette Z06 had a effin 500HP LS7, that was handbuilt, Cadillac-Style. The XLR dies because of neglect. The ELR.. quite frankly as beautiful as it is should have not been an EV only model. In fact it should have been a Cadillac coupe with a 2.0LTurbo and maybe a more powerful one as well. As it is.. its niche.. and following a path that the Lexus HS went. The $75K price tag wouldn't have sold if it were even a Benz or BMW with the performance numbers it has. It looks like it would tear the sides off most cars, it doesn't. Change driveline.. call it BLC, offer a sunroof for GODSAKE and drop price to $55K. SOLD OUT!!!

^^^ That's the thing that Cadillac is obviously doing. At a starting price of $46K and a higher ATP of $55K for the CTS without a HI-PO model, and the similar sized XTS selling for slightly higher, I'd say that the customer base that Cadillac has stewed for the past 15 years is either adjusting or being joined by conquests. Again.. Cadillac sales are not down because of their products not being taken seriously.. They are down because they lack enough entries in the hottest segment of CUV, lack variations on vehicles that needed variations a year after debut, and lack of aggressive incentives and marketing of the Germans. The LX still sells at a price less than the Germans because Lexus, ultimately does not have the heritage that Benz has or the Sporting edge of BMW, but then again.. the Lexus LS actually is based priced above the 740i.. and almost exactly the same as the A8 as is the Jag Xj. Cadillac entering the fray will have no problem selling a comparable car with a similar price. I would not suggest that the MSRP should be the same as the inflated S-Class price, but starting in the $70Ks is completely doable. A Platinum and VSeries certainly will command base prices in the $115K price but easily optioned out if there are coupes and convrts available such as indicated by the Ciel

I think it will.. especially if it simply LOOKS like the Elmiraj. Not only that, a V12 is no longer a necessity for that type of cache. If GM wanted to build a V12.. they would. I actually think that they are a waste of time. The V12s currently in production from the European companies are nothing to write home about when compared to a Forced induction V8. Furthermore no engine a GM is a CHEVY engine.. they are GM engines. Get it thru you head. Lastly.. so what the S-Class gets a refresh.. Cadillac is upgrading vehicles almost on a yearly basis. I'm pretty confident, altho U, rooting always for the Europeans are not, that GM can manage keeping up with Benz should they need to. Your premise that Benz is "years ahead of everyone else" is ridiculous. Those brands haven't even really tried to overtake it with the product they have put out. Audi may be the exception.. but, BMW and Lexus build "different" types of Flagships than the S-Class. Not to mention of all those brands, damaged or not, Cadillac is in actuality the only brand name able to truly reflect on a LUXURY heritage.

People very seldom understand that.. but then again most posters on most forums aren't actual enthusiasts. Most haven't even ever turned a wrench. The current CAR applications of the GM V8s are predominately "Sports Cars" with the VSeries CTS being the exception. In my CTS-V the LSA, even with teh S/C is pretty quiet and very smooth. The C7's LT1 is pretty quiet and ultra smooth when in Eco/Weather and Touring without really stepping into it. It's when the Sport/Track modes are switched on that U hear it

This is gonna be a very exciting debut. I whole-heartedly believe that the price tag will start at least where the CTS ends.. which makes sense. I would imagine that despite it being most likely far above the Lexus LS or BMW 7Series in every dynamic, it will probably follow it's line of pricing with a starting prince around $73K but easily optioned to $140K for a normal model and starting at $140K, but up to $$200K for a completely optioned VSeries. Keep in mine that the base price is where the sweet spot is as it is the line from which pricing judgement will come. I hope that the Cadillac goes further with the power of choice as the base 7series is a bit weak and anemic for the size. I would think that a new V6 with no less than 350HP would be utilized, but even better would be a simple use of the XTS-VSport's 410HP TTV6 as a base motor By 2016 the vehicle will be out.. the S-Class will have been studied for two years. Based on Benz's track record that car will change very little by then I suspect. GM.. and Cadillac have both been doing pretty frequent and advantageous updates to their lines almost on a Bi-Annual basis.

Sounds like U walked into a beam and bumped your head. Tell me please one thing outside of the tired.. and boring.. and over used backseat BS that U Foreign car lovers like to site about the ATS that actually is more accommodating to the DRIVER/Front Passenger than the the 3 series which decided to get bigger and clumsier just to accommodate the rear passengers over the driver.

Buy her a used certified CTS Coupe.. they exist with low miles and in Premium with V6. Or... based on price U are willing to go to.. a nice used certified CTS-V Coupe. She hits the gas one time she will be sold on anything U want her to be

How much were U expecting? The 335i costs more and looks like a boring jellybean. The ATS 3.6L is a better handler too. From experience I speak.
