  1. Since when has the Tundra been the leader in anything except for the butt of pickup jokes? And aren't the Silverado and Sierra built in Arlington, TX? I think that qualifies as "American built"... And the claim that the Tundra is the "best" pickup seems a little outlandish to me. They still have yet to understand what a pickup is IMO.
  2. *4300 V6 in my Sonoma all of the 350 engines (maybe not the diesels...) *3800 V6 (my grandma's '86 Olds 98 has over 400,000 miles with no mechanical troubles) *Northstar V8s (aunt's '96 Seville had 247 K miles before she turned it in for a new STS) *4.0L V6 in my dad's '91 Explorer (477,000 and change before donated to Purple Heart) *5.0L V8 in my grandad's '86 El Camino (after 500,000 miles, it is finally starting to die...)
  3. Toyota: Moving Forward into NY Supreme Court...
  4. 44063 as of tonight, but my dad spends more time in it than I do, so the miles go up by about 50 each day (20 into work, 10 driving to jobs around D.C., and 20 home). Nothing but (sometimes) routine maintenance so far.
  5. Serious or not, the media will have a field day.
  6. Hahaha... My neighbor bought one of these things after telling me how bad the Lucerne was. If the Avalon turns out to be Toyota's true problem car, I wonder how CR will put it
  7. Uff...I can't believe that Motor Trend fawned all over this thing like they did! It's so ugly! I still have yet to see one not sitting on a dealer's lot, so I guess people here aren't taken by the styling.
  8. The salesman that sold my mom her Venture told us that only FWD Ventures had a little "Versetrak AWD" badge on the liftgate... I also had a Honda salesman tell me that an Odyssey EX came standard with a V8 after he asked if I liked V8s over V6s. I think I could sell cars better than half the salespeople I've delt with. Although the guy that sold me my Sonoma was very knowledgable about it, and he wasn't even a GMC salesguy, and the guy that sell my dad cargo vans is pretty good, too. Mixed bag, if you ask me.
  9. My weedwacker sounds better than they do.
  10. Well, at least there's no plastiwood! It looks a little chunky to me. Maybe its just the angle. There's a lot of black plastic there...I hope that's on the Work Truck only. The climate control dials are huge. First impression isn't all that great, but maybe another picture would help. And it is different than the Tahoe, so maybe the outside will be, too.
  11. Is it just me, or do the headlights look like they're sagging a little? It looks better with out the heaps of black plastic, but it still looks like a box. I'd rather have an HHR
  12. .5% or 50%, to me it doesn't matter-a recall is a recall. I mean, since the Camry is Toyota's claim to fame for being built on a "pedestal of reliability and quality" (quoted from a Camry add in a magazine), won't this do something to sour its reputation? I wonder if this will be in the news...
  13. Wow... I don't understand his logic at all. What really got under my skin is how he says GM bribed people to buy its cars with incentives. Lies. When my mom bought her Venture back in March of 2003, she didn't go for it because GM was offering 0% interest for 72 months, or a large cash-back (or as this loon calls it "bribes"), she bought it because she likes the styling, and she flat-out said "I do NOT want a Japanese car." True, GM has offered larger rebates than Toyota or Honda, especially the employee-discount of 2005, but I can only tell you how many Japanese dealers followed suit. Were they guilty of bribery then, too? Its amazing how American incentives are called bribes, but Japanese incentives are called just that-incentives. Only makes me want to see GM rebound even more.
  14. "Our objective is not objectivity. We aim to tell the truth to the best of our ablilities. This I have done."...bull. Telling the truth means being objective, i.e., not fabricating lies just to sell your story. If this is his best ability, I can only imagine what his worst is.
  15. I agree that the 3800 is not exactly the most robust engine out there, but I understand why they put it in there. Its because they know that it is a good, reliable engine. The 3.6 is relatively new (especially new when compared to the 3800), so GM might have been worried some problems might develop. It's the same logic behind why they don't have the 6-speed in the Lucerne-just quality issues. However, the 291 hp Northstar isn't in the Lucerne because Bob Lutz feels that it would hurt the DTS. Some logic he has there. We just have to wait until the six-speed gets some real-world use. As for why there is no telescoping wheel, I can not explain that...
  16. No news yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if the press didn't double, triple, and quadruple-check their sources to see if maybe there was a typo...Toyota recall a car?!? What's next, honest politicians?
  17. I saw one of those too on I-95 outside of D.C. that says the same thing. I didnt even bother checking it out...I figured a crab talking to an Element could only be nonsense. Now that you bring it back up, what do they talk about?
  18. I know I'd be happy with the 4.8L V8. Had to floor it in an Express van to get out of some idiot's way on the beltway. Really nice pickup, especially in something that was heavier than a Colorado. I know I wouldnt have made it if the 5 cylinder was under the hood. If GM gave it Displacement on Demand or Active Fuel Management or whatever they call it now, folks would be really happy.
  19. I saw one of those adds on my way into school one morning. I couldnt believe that Toyota has the nerve to say how great a boon they are to our economy. After all the years and all of the dollars GM, Ford, and Chrysler have put inot our economy, they come out making it sound like the only reason our economy is moving is because of how great they are. True, they are more American than they were in the 80s or even the 90s, but they can never claim to be as American as GM or Ford. Just makes me want to see GM rebound even more...
  20. Warren Brown (Washington Post) is pretty fair when it comes to reviewing all things GM. He was one of the only journalists that complained about the decline of GM and Ford, so I think he writes some of the more unbiased reviews. Just goes to show how good GM cars are when given a chance.
  21. To be fair, the W-body is about as old as I am, so of course they are going to float a bit-they were developed in the late 80s, back when handling isnt what it is now. I would think that an Impala SS still handles better than a Camry. Still, GM should get some credit for at least trying to make a sporty sedan. It is a nice placeholder for the time being until the 2009 model rolls out.
  22. Stateside, I don't think anything was done about it, since there wansnt a flurry of "OMG Toyota/Honda is doing a recall!!" reports on the news and since my cousin bought a last-gen Odyssey. But the whole recall thing just makes me want to smile--proof to everyone that Toyota/Honda arent the undisputed leaders in vehicle quality.
  23. The HHR should have at least gotten 2nd. The Mazda3 was going to win because it is more sporty than the HHR, and since when have auto mags favored a slower car? They griped more about the Matrix having funny little annoyances, which added up should have demoted it to 3rd. They took major points off the HHR because it was "too slow." But they also say that the Matrix makes you work hard to get any quickness. That area seems to be subjective to me-I'm still getting used to a clutch, so an automatic HHR would probably be faster than me in a manual Matrix. But the HHR isnt supposed to be a poor-mans Z06, so I think they came down too hard on it for not going 0-60 in sub-4 seconds.
  24. As long as the new trucks dont have the fake wood in their interiors like the new Tahoe, I think they will look good.
