  1. It looks like someone took our '81 Jaguar and modernized its interior. It's nice, I like the color scheme. Too bad the car it's found in is obscenely ugly.
  2. Well, I went to go check the car out today, and I'll just say that I was thoroughly disappointed. The exterior was great, no issues there. Interior was dirty, but together, and I can always clean that myself. What killed me (and it) was turning the car on. 5 seconds of idling revealed a very strong smell of burning oil and a solid-on SES light. The engine also seemed to be running weakly. I got to take it on a trip around the block where the guy lived, and noticed that once I put the car into drive and pulled away, the SES light started flashing. It had good power, and the brakes were good, but giving it gas caused the car to shudder like mad, and the tachometer was very notchy (i.e., it didn't swing towards the redline in a fluid motion). Both turn signals were bad as well. Dad said that he saw oil spots under the car. Would anyone here with W-body/3800 experience know what may be wrong? Dad seems to think that it's either a burnt valve, or it's got a terrible missfire going on. It's such a nice car, I don't want to completely disqualify it yet...but I'm really thinking about starting my search over. Any insights? Thanks again.
  3. Scream - Avenged Sevenfold BV's right...their new album's pretty good.

  5. Doesn't that new warranty exclude SRT models?

    Help!

I’ve finally made some headway in my car-hunting process. After a lengthy discussion between myself and my dad (which entailed me promising to seek employment), he told me I could go ahead and send an email to the seller of a 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue GLS. The link to the listing is here. My question is, are there any major defects in the 1998 model year Intrigue? I know it’s got the 3.8L V6/4T60E (or some variant of that transmission) combo, which I’ve heard only good things about their longevity. Dad seems to think that because it has over 100K miles on it, that it’ll be needing a new transmission and/or a head gasket job soon if it already hasn’t, which I think sounds a bit outlandish. But what do I know, this’ll be my first car, and mechanicals have never been my forte. My main concern is about buying something that turns out to be a money pit. Once I buy the car, I won’t have much to be tossing around to fix anything wrong with it. Any insights are appreciated, and, if I may be so bold as to ask, if anyone has a Carfax-like account, could I trouble you to run the VIN for me? Danke danke, y’all.
  7. I didn't think it was a really good song to begin with, and on top of that, the radio stations here killed it. Response: Alberta (where most of the movie was filmed)
  8. by Nickelback (A truly ghastly song.)
  9. *Envious* All I've got to look forward to this weekend is the SAT . Have fun you two, be safe.
  10. The rims would look better with a smaller diameter. The rest of the car looks good.
  11. It's workable. Ditch the yellow calipers, revise the hood, raise the height just a bit, and do a minor nip-tuck on the rear bumper, and I'd think it would look a whole lot nicer.
  12. Looks fantastic, with the exception of the seats.
  13. This morning started off as just about any other Sunday morning in my house. I slept in until about 11:15 AM, mom and my cousin were off at church, dad was busy out in the garage, my brother was in the kitchen eating breakfast. I did my usual morning tasks (eat, brush teeth, pop my contacts in), when I decided to play some Game & Watch on my Game Boy. I’m sitting on the couch in the living room, when my dad tells me he’s going up to Home Depot for some stuff to fix our chimney with. I see him standing outside, with the driver’s door to the Sonoma open, and it looks like he’s going through something. A minute later, he knocks on the front door (it was locked), and tells me that someone broke into the truck. Alarmed, I get up and go outside (still in my pajamas, into the lovely, brisk 54*/10 MPH winds) and brace myself for a mess of shattered glass that I’ll have to clean up and that dad will have to pay to replace. But there was no shattered glass; the outside of the truck wasn’t messed with in the least. Dad explained to me that the doors were unlocked through the night, a habit I’ve been trying to get him to break for the longest time. Upon inspecting the interior, the armrest console had been rifled through, and all of the pennies dad keeps in there were gone, plus the top-most bin. Similarly, the change holder at the base of the armrest was emptied. The contents of the console were scattered across the passenger seat, but nothing else was missing, which is strange, because the tools and battery charger that dad keeps in the back are so much more valuable than the maybe $2.15 that was stolen from the console. Needless to say, I made sure both cars are locked tonight, even over dad’s objections. He says if they really want to get in, locked doors won’t stop them. I told him that I agreed, but we’d hear any attempts to get inside the car with locked doors. Hopefully, this is an isolated incident, because every 4 years or so, there's a string of vehicle/property damage throughout the neighborhood. It would really suck if that's going to start up again. A really petty theft, but I’m so very glad that nothing worse happened to the truck (like it being keyed, smashed windows, stolen, etc). It's a bit worrisome, though, when your car gets raided in your own driveway.
  14. IMO, there is something wrong with that, especially when the Civic Si has a cosmetics package that makes it look different enough from a regular Civic. I'm a big fan of subtlty, believe me, but there's a line between subtlty and anonymity. The G8 and Bonneville GXP are subtle. The Cobalt SS Turbo is anonymous; it blends in too well with the Cobalt family.
  15. I agree with BV. The hardware upgrades sound great...but there's really nothing to suggest that this is more than just a regular LT coupe with fancier rims.
  16. I'm polite to everyone on the road...I profile them based on their actual competency behind the wheel, not the nationality of vehicle they drive.
  17. I can't wait for it to snow this year...I don't have to make up any of the snowdays. The perks of being a senior...
  18. Out of the three, I guess I'd go with the Buick...but I'd have to at least get a CXS with the 3.6L.
  19. I used to be one. Now, the stuff I keep is either important in some way (receipts, notes from the previous year's classes, bank statements, etc) or has a strong sentimental value (boarding passes from my first flight, ticket from a concert in Philadelphia, ticket from a play I saw in New York on a field trip, birthday/holiday cards, etc).
  20. Yeah, my parents' company owns a fleet of 4 Express vans. You turn the dial to the lighting level you desire, then push the button in when it's not in use. What's wrong with that?
