  7. Ford Reports September Sales Oct. 1 /PRNewswire/ Link to Press Release - Ford, Lincoln and Mercury sales totaled 116,734, down 34 percent versus year ago. - Weakening economy, tight credit and cautious consumers pulled Ford and industry sales in September to lowest level this year. - Ford Flex crossover and Lincoln MKS sedan post highest retail shares in September. - Ford readies for launch of all-new F-150. DEARBORN, Mich., Oct. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Ford, Lincoln and Mercury dealers reported total sales of 116,734 in September, down 34 percent versus a year ago. September was the lowest sales month for Ford and the industry this year. "Consumers and businesses are in a very fragile place," said Jim Farley, Ford group vice president, Marketing and Communications. "An already weak economy compounded by very tight credit conditions has created an atmosphere of caution." The national marketing launch for the Ford Flex crossover and Lincoln MKS sedan began in September. Both new products have steadily increased their share of segment. The Ford Flex has the highest conquest rate of any Ford product (except for Escape Hybrid), and also is attracting the highest rate of premium and import buyers. The Lincoln MKS ranks third in the mid-size luxury car segment behind only the BMW 5-Series and the Mercedes Benz E-Class. The 2009 model Ford F-150 has class leading capability (11,300 pounds towing and 3,030 pounds payload) and unsurpassed fuel economy of 21 mpg highway with the SFE package. "The sell down of the current model F-150 is ahead of schedule, and the first shipments of the new F-150 will arrive soon at Ford dealers," said Farley. Ford's F-Series is America's No. 1 selling truck for 31 years in a row and the new F-150 is designed and engineered to raise the bar in the light-duty pickup market. Note: The sales data included in this release and the accompanying tables are based largely on data reported by dealers representing their sales to retail and fleet customers. 8. I just got the Zune 120 last week... As much as I do enjoy gadgets and tech toys, it's shamefully my first portable MP3 player. If work will give me a chance to breathe, I hope to start loading stuff onto it within the next week or two. We already have the media center in the living room (runs on Vista) loaded with tons of movies and music. Looking forward to taking some of it with me. We'll see.
  9. Congrats guy! Good to see you back on the board too!
  10. If given a choice between the two - LTZ 4-cyl.
  11. That sounds like a great idea!
  12. But, you would also continue to buy new vehicles from other GM brands.
  13. I'm disappointed that this topic turned into another "how to save Pontiac" rant. I thought the original topic was how the death/emasculation of Pontiac would affect the relationship each of us have with GM? It wouldn't impact my buying decision, and I doubt it would impact most US fans/buyers of other GM brands. It certainly wouldn't impact the buyers/fans in GM's global markets. I'm not saying it's fair, that Pontiac has been given the proper attention, that it even had a chance. I'm also not talking about what would/could "prevent" its demise from happening. I'm strictly talking about if it happened.
  14. Thank you... I wanted your perspective considering certain "recent" comments on C&G about the G-Platform's inability to be competitive or perform. I agree with your driving experience completely. I believe with an updated powertrain (including ongoing platform improvements) the G-platform could survive another generation or two providing competitive and desirable vehicles.
  15. Would you define this car as a floating, undulating, barge? A relic contributing to the sales of dramamine?
  16. The difference between Lynne Spears and Sarah Palin? Not lipstick!
  17. I can watch SNL's Gov. Palin and Senator Clinton address the nation every day and still laugh... If the link above doesn't work... try this one.
  18. dfelt, that's what most of the public said about a Chevrolet Truck/SUV platform... But once Cadillac was done, the story changed.
  19. FOG... Enclave starts at $33,000. The Escalade starts at $56,000. There's a lot Cadillac can do to differentiate the two with a $23,000 price difference. They will not compete with each other in the future.
  20. 2,700 jobs impacted by 13 dealerships going under. Can you imagine the job loss if a domestic OEM closed their doors without anyone to step in and keep the lights on? I don't recall hearing good things about this particular chain either. So, I'm really not too upset... and GM needs to thin out the gluttony of franchises. 13 less dealerships GM will need to negotiate with or buy out in the future.
  21. It would certainly open up new doors with marketing and packaging.
  22. Which LaCrosse? The US midsize sedan or the luxury sedan sold in China? Remember, this LaCrosse is replacing both. Current LaCrosse: Base MSRP: $24,250 - $32,380 Current Lucerne: Base MSRP: $27,275 - $38,980 Which one will it be replacing? One or the other? Both? Hmmm... Enclave has. Why shouldn't the LaCrosse if it's good enough? FWD Lincolns start around $32k (Lincoln MKz Base MSRP: $32,155 - $34,045) and up to $40k without options (MKsBase MSRP: $37,665 - $39,555). Lincoln is also considering a smaller compact (4-cyl?) which will allow Lincoln to drop the entry price even further. (starting to look a lot like Buick's price model insn't it?) Grandiose? For Buick to compete with a Lincoln? Come-on...The two brands have been cross-shopped for years. I know several people in Texas that have switched between the 2 brands (Riviera against Mark-series, LeSabres & Park Avenues against Continentals.) Both brands have appealed and catered to a less pretentious clientele for quite some time. We'll know more once stats and prices are announced, but the new LaCrosse appears more inline to replace the Lucerne with the Insignia-based Regal to fill the spot of the current LaCrosse. As I've said before, I don't expect Buick to be as expensive as the Lincoln competition, but I expect the pricing to be closer than it has been in the past. I'll take your wager. We can discuss terms offline... :AH-HA_wink:
  23. But but but... It's an Epsilon sedan priced like a Cadillac CTS... this can't be allowed!!! I haven't driven this version of the 9-3, but would love the chance. I think it looks fantastic and would be great to own.
  24. Uhm... Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is a good thing.
