  1. oh no. damn gm for trying to cast their company in a positive light. fools. what could they have been thinking. not good marketing for a change. this loon mustve been surrounded by men in white jackets when he was writing this. how he got from a to b is simply put c-c-crazy. its not that vast of an idea, its been done before by many companies. ever watch a show on pbs presented by toyota? they love to toot their own horn, and they aint going no where. you miserable douche. put the nose candy down maam/sir...and stop using buzzwords like nuclear option, it just makes you sound even crazier. its a good commercial, for someone who claims to be in advertising, should see that, now im not saying yourre not but yourre probably not that good then.
  2. that is completely true about the debate over pushrods but the thing is this... when a car magazine such as cr harps about unrefined pushrod motors it becomes an issue to the casual reader. they may not know what it means, but theyll know that they dont want it because someone told them so. http://www.autoblog.com/2005/12/08/autoblo...efinitive-rant/ check this out if you havent seen it before now. it is a helluva good read.
  3. gm is finally goint to take advantage of its broad reach and use its global resources to their fulest possible extent. and you thought you had it tough strectching your paycheck the week the rent is due... for a while ive had a hunch holden would play a significant role in gms turnaround efforts. engineering wise at first but now perhaps production wise as well. i hope they see it through. or more so, have the chance to get to see it through.
  4. seems to be a lot of resentment for this here little car. i dont get what all this hate for it is about. maybe someone can try to explain it without going "ewww" ive seen a few g6's on the road and they always seem get my attention. they stand out more so than any accord or toyota ive ever seen. this looks like a scaled down version of that. so whats the big deal? mazda has a 3 and a 6. the corolla yaris camry and es are all closely related, too. the cobalt sells rather well so why the hell not. for all the people who like the cobalt but dont want a chevy...hey, here ya go. its not a firebird to a camaro but then these are completely different times and different cars, maybe even for a different crowd. its not a panacea for pontiac but it cant hurt either. i know most of you people here arent car snobs so thats the big deal? and the front end treatment, the kidney grill is found quite a bit in the car world. jags-bmw-mitsubishi-and plenty others use it. the new pontiacs in my opinion nail it even more so than bmw. i understand if you dont like it so be it, but its not really cheap or white trashy as ive heard before. just throwing it out there. maybe they shouldve slapped some tail fins and a really neat looking racing stripe to set it off. then again we can just wait and see how it sells. if it steals cobalt sales or can stand by itself. im just as curious as you may be. anyone care to predict what they think a successful amount of sales would be for this car?
  5. i still havent seen a new caaamry on the road here. bimmer: what part of ny are you?
  6. yup, that bmw pre bangle thingy was my initial impression from these pics as well. now im thinking a bm double u-ized cobalt. ahh pretty slick. i bet its nice but at the same time i can only imagine what the auto snobs will be saying about it.
  7. i digress though, to get back on topic... toyota is human. let them pump out as many cars as gm does and see if they dont have similar problems...oh wait, thats basically whats going on here now. so, hmmm. maybe they are human after all. time to stop playing favorites perhaps. reliability shemiability.
  8. reminds me of a joke... how do you know you were robbed by a korean? your cat is missing and all your math homework is done. thats just a cultural thing i suppose, the way we eat cow, indians would never in a million years. it is a sacred animial to them. just the way it goes i guess...of course i dont have a pet cow. its a big world out there and without this turning into some kind of ethics lesson it all comes down to respect for other peoples cultures. i dont even want to know what the rest of the world think of the US right now.
  9. there are big plans for buick. i dont know how or what but they have a lot going for them. good quality, good cars, good rep. its just a matter of applyinf these attributes that seems to be the trcky part. i have no doubt they will let this brand fail us. if you want to go back almost a hundred years, it was buicks money that enabled the purchase of cadillac. time to reapy the loan.
  10. the way the lights the grill and the air dam line up is all american and all chevy. there is a continuity in the cars. they all have that face. check some pics of the c6 youll probally recognize a similar theme. personally, i like the maxx...could they tweak it? yeah sure, tell me a car that cant be tweaked in some way. i know there are some...its rhetorical.
  11. here here...even historically the chinese and japanese havent been the best of friends. what im reading here makes no sense whatsoever, as far as food goes...chinese all the way. japanese food is too light and trendy for me. i still dont get this whole sushi craze. dim sum, dumplins, wonton soup...mmmm. thats where its at for me, no rolled up fish in seaweed for me. maybe we can all agree on scallion pancakes. thats the sh*t
  12. buyers set the market prices. not sellers. asking for credit is tantamount to saying we dont trust you, we want our money now. f that, this is a situation that doesnt need to play out in the court of public appeal. theres a problem...work it out. this is jerry springer all of a sudden. the hell with that. theres plenty of other suppliers that are more than willing to pick up a contract with a company that has the potential of general motors. and what if in good faith gm extended this line of credit, then poof...they disappeared. its unreasonable to request such demands. thats not the way business is done. ideally it should be mutually beneficial. again though, this is fishy to me because its not the type of that should play out anywhere else but between gm and whomever.
  13. the wording is more aggressive than were used to. for eg, the fox 5 superbowl half time show presented by the new ford f150. thats a passive approach. toyota is going for the jugular. very up front, in your face.
  14. the plug got pulled on the camaro/firebird about 3/4 years before the mustang redesign. no more money was going to be sunk into the camaro esp after the supposed 200 million that was spent on the front end redisgn. there was no chance in hell it would compete with the ford. the last thing they would want now is to have a brand new model and slow sales relative to production. id guess betweeb 70k and100k to start. no one is going to want that piece to rot on a lot somewhere. the overwhelming majority for some reason or another want the camaro built in the USA. im not sure why but thats the sense that seems to pervade. does this factor into the decision? i havent a clue...only a handful know that for sure. this is the best so far i can piece together. zeta seems secure and i bet the floks here in NA cant wait to get their hands on it.
  15. contracts, buyouts, strike threats? isnt that continuing through this and next year? granted it does appear they have a better idea about suppliers and more efficient ways of money managing as of late. also, it was the delphi and union costs that originally had them rethink their cash investments--prob going back to the unloading of subaru/fuji investment and thus the zeta development.
  16. isnt this all cost related and it wont be until after 07 at least that programs can officially get back on the books, so to speak.
  17. of course its sponsorship professor the point is they didnt have to accept it. that can only mean basically one of two things they (brooks and done!) like the tundra and wanted a couple to tool around in (or) the money they offered was far and away so much higher that they couldnt refuse. either way toyota got what they want, the tundra will get plenty of exposure. its business thats all, and their effort to assimilate into the american culture.
  18. the trucks were priority numero uno. australia is doing their part now and picking up the slack while other matters are being settled here. its taking longer than originally expected since things got scrapped last year. there is a progression and it will probably make more sense as it unfolds. priorities and such nonsense.
  19. amazing. so after tackling nascar toyota is sponsoring a country music tour. whats next glamour shots of the tundra wearing chaps and a cowboy hat. with a phony southern accent thrown in for good measure. yeee haawwww(sawhn).
  20. conspiracy theory and psychabble aside--if you want to call it that-- i do feel that a stronger hand is used when treating domestic cars. it may only seem like that and im sure i could back it up if i took the time, but as far as gut instincts go there is definately a more discriminating take on product that comes from home, here in the USA. the exact reasons--well who cares. mags like cr are certainly playing with a stacked deck, but most people acknowledge this already...thats easily explainable as ive noted inconsistecies in their writing....most recent with toyota cutting their teeth bs response...that easygoing attituted wouldnt apply to anything else domestic. i just dont think it stops there. the bottom line is though no one is forced to listen to this crap. it would be interesting though to see what happens first. the new cars when they finally get here are going to make the current camry look like they did in 1989 and the chrysler 300 will look like it has some new friends. the approach to beating japanese imports by creating lookalikes never took off. so how do you change that? you make them irrelevant. thats when realistic market share will increase again.
  21. thats funny but its product! product! product! the first and most important part. maybe even the only part. plain and simple. no hocus pocus.
  22. yeah, who ever thought wed run out of oil or that theyd jack up the price so much wed want to stop using it?
  23. well, that pretty much settles that. so whos gonna change their minds first? people or the magazines and papers?
  24. that was actually old news, if you want to call it that. it was right before or after the detroit auto show. its basically just some ideas that got floated around, mostly speculation from the best i could gather. theres no real anything but hypothetical possibilities or even just the different directions that things could go. everybody knows new sh*t is on the way...just what are you going to call it? its hype.
  25. --ya know whats funny though, is that if you tell someone something is good, they will find reasons to see why it is good. some people really just need to be told what to buy what to like. it works the other way too.
