  1. hes also in the verrazano and a million other places...no ones ever gonna find that poor son of a bitch.
  2. charlize theron, yeah, even after i watched monster...uhh, still though and rebecca romjin yea
  3. that looks like somebody grabbed both ends and squeezed too hard and pinched the life out of that thing. thats just me i suppose.
  4. what in the $h! is that picture?
  5. i like that phrasing, and yup, it sure is.
  6. what i think, GM is scrambling to get the best and most sought after engines and drivetrains. maybe they were sleeping at the wheel for a while but now its time to pony up. everything that anyone wants will be available. direct injection, yeha ive been hearing about that for a while, 6 speeds...crawl back in your hole if yiou havent heard that one. in all likelihood we would still have 500 cu engines with 2 speeds if no one opened their mouths. abs, oh wait been there. done that. whats next? time to get on it. and i think we will be pleasantly rewarded. at least i hope so. i guess we'll find out eventually.
  7. the cts wasnt the car for your typical cadillac shopper but that why it was so effective. it lured new sales or at least interest and recognition in the brand. 2 things that were sorely missing for years. whats stupid is thinking tht you are number one when you see people in front of you. cadillac knows that there are people in front of them. bmw is a stand alone right now. no one can touch them. how long has lexus been chasing that dream. now the is sales are up to almost 1000%. is that a success even though it still doesnt compete with bmw? not many people walk away from bmw. the rest of the market is a dog fight among the other players. theres always going to be room for improvement but to say the cts is only successful compared to the catera or uncompetetive is really baseless. number one and competitive arent quite the same. the slightest amount of change is what propels a competitve car to numero uno. and really, how far away is cadillac from doing just that? edit: those sales numbers are negligible and as much as i would like for cadillac to outpace bmw its one step at a time. i think this may be an instance where a second place win is a victory. thats not something i normally believe but realistically it will take some time to unseat the legend of bmw. In this particular market i believe cadillac has the ability to accomplish that before lexus.
  8. arms and elbows...for same reasons they like the car they hate them, too. diabolical. he could hardly contain himself while he was behind the wheel. he talks about jaguars pretty harshly too from what i recall...most cars he likes he does that. hes funny like that. its rare that he ever completely gushes about a car-- he knows its not an everyday car, jeez everyone knows that--i take that as a good thing. :AH-HA_wink:
  9. i have a great deal of respect for subarus since i first started watching wrc rally racing a few years back. they make pretty decent looking cars with solid drivetrains, and are very capable but the fact remains they have a relatively high cost of ownership. like i said i always thought they were neat little cars and if i ever owned an asian nameplate that would probably be the one. same goes for audi's . to be honest though, i dont see myself in either of those brands. cost to own quick comparison grand prix and legacy, i think http://auto.consumerguide.com/Auto/Used/re...iewreliability/ http://auto.consumerguide.com/Auto/Used/re...iewreliability/ (from england) Subaru • League position: 11th • Claims per 100 vehicles: 26.3 • Average age (years): 5.46 • Average mileage: 55,092 • Average repair cost: £835 • Average time for repair (hours): 8.6 After two years in fifth place, Subaru has slipped to 11th this year. Its cars have gone from having five-star reliability to just three stars and they are still very expensive, and time-consuming, to fix. When things go wrong, it’s more than likely that the cars’ engines are to blame, with nearly half of the claims relating to engine trouble. This could well explain the high average repair cost, which, at £835, is second only to Porsche in this survey. As high as it is, Subaru’s repair cost has fallen £159 from £994 in last year’s survey. As well as deep pockets, Subaru owners also need to have a great deal of patience – they have to wait on average an incredible 8.6 hours for their cars to be fixed. Verdict: *** Reliability is not bad, but when things do go wrong the costs are very high. from an english site http://www.whatcar.com/default.aspx--
  10. i understand jd power is including "essay" form responces now...imagine reading through all of those. thats when they will really sh*t themselves. 2 people riding in the same car at the same time can have vastly different impressions.
  11. not really, they actually admit to a certain ceiling of reliability. and the numbers are so close that my point is who cares to what degree. some cars are just lemons regardless of their "rating" some are just poorly designed or victims of bad parts....it goes on. there will never be an accurate way of determining these nuances. and if you try, you better have a pretty flawless method. otherwise its invalid and not reliable. 2 criteria for any successful survey. everything else is lip service. not unlike the medical world and the placebo effect. how during testing people complain of side effects even when given sugar pills. its fascinating stuff.
  12. boxer engines are from what i understand virtually bulletproof, needless to say very reliable. its just that after that the only thing truly upscale about the car are the repair bills for everthing else.
  13. wow o wow. very nice indeed. i betcha the guys over at corvette will be putting in some late hours. the malibu comment just cements the whole thing. time to get up off yer arses and no more sitting on those hands. im thinking lutz is putting the General back in General Motors.
  14. every year these cr people supposedly get more survey responses. now, im no scientist and this is pure speculation but maybe there is some law of mathematics thats gonna bite them on the ass real soon. statistics and probability or the law of averages. it really is something though, these studies, especially cr's really lack validity and reliability themselves, but in some way manage to come to the conclusion that hey...theyre all pretty much really damn close. now, how exactly do they propose to pinpoint the exact minutia that differentiate cars and their reliability. granted some makes/models are doomed from the get go but thats not too common, i dont think. im sure most of you guys have seen this, if not here it is. http://www.allpar.com/cr.html
  15. i read an interview recently with laneve, it was about a year old but new to me...anyway he was asked about pontiac and buick and basically said he wants them to each be focussed and unique. he compared them to how porsche only has a few core models but you know exactly what they stand for. he talked bout removing certain cars and aspects but having them join forces, so to speak while maintaing an identity that can not be confused. it was from 5/05 and it seems to be closer to playing itself out now how he envisioned. from the time article this week saying how gm is borrowing from toyotas playbook by utilizing global platforms and resources while maintaining a central command. things are beginning to make a little more sense as these developments unfold. if the new product continues in the spirit of the solstice and reinvigoration of buick with the enclace or the resurrection of the camaro, things wont seem quite as bleak as they have been lately or at least since before someone started to give a damn again around there.
  16. yes...indeed. a la the zed 06 as reviewed by clarkson of top gear.
  17. Just for the hell of it. http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/cars/re...06/overview.htm

    Civic Hybrid

i wouldnt go as far as to say that :AH-HA_wink: but the message is still crystal clear. gas mileage. his biggest complaint dealt with the nature of driving a boring, fuel sipping car. the hills and the cvt transmission, the boredom of trying to drive fast... harkening back to the old days when efficiency wasnt even a thought musch less a concern... the reality now is that it does matter and we should probably get aquainted with uneventful nonchalance of a car that does nothing special other than conserve natural resources and go from a to b. which this car does quite well.
  19. ive seen one tahoe and one escalade. they both looked quite good. the escalade in particular maybe because it was moving, but they both got my attention. no suburbans yet.
  20. the legacy was aiming for bmw if im not mistaken. i kindve laughed at that not because theyrre terrible it just seemed unreasonable at the time. subaru always had a set though from the best i could tell. but to say that theyrre upscale i think is a little misleading.

    Enclave

it really looks like they did their homework on this one. i agree about the sound, look, and feel all being on target. if they could put their heads together and comeup with more advertisements and promotional pr like this...hmmm lost my train of thought for a moment. anyway as for prodution... The GMC Acadia will go into production at the Lansing Delta Township plant late this year, and the Buick Enclave will go into production there early next year. so, i guess tack on a few months before we can expect these gems to arrive at the showroom.

    Enclave

http://www.buick.com/enclave/index.jsp?cmp=enclave this came from the gm.com homepage. its a lot of video and interviews but there are some really nice shots of the car in motion. if you have the speed i say check it out. the link might not work but it does come up on google. you can just click on it from there.
  23. oh, good you removed your little comment about i and e before c or some nonsense. i dont want to speak for bowtiedude but i think he was alluding to revisionist theory. if the mods cut and post whatever comments they fell like its not really a discussion anymore. it leads to censorship and goes downhill from there, hence the corruption. sort of like you did by deleting your post. and to answer your question: i thought it kind of fizzled after you said what you now deleted. no, i dont think so.
  24. not exactly. the camry is a case of function over form. its greatest appeal is as a people mover, reliability, and dependability and i think out of pure necessity rather than sheer thrills or pleasure. (not that those are bad qualities to have when choosing a car, mind you) im not knocking it or people who own one but its not considered a drivers driver. also, i dont think toyota would have the 07 redesign all jazzed up and sportier (arguably) if they werent trying to appeal to a broader audience. i.e. those people that look for other qualities, too when buying a car. such as fun to drive, rewarding experience behind the wheel, etc id skip over the rush hour grind too but not the drive.
  25. im gonna go out on a limb and say that was sarcasm, but my 92 bonneville has the express windows so its not like they dont know about them. there must be some other reasons in play. also, the same car has the feature where the battery stays on for half a min or until you open the door. is that commonplace now? it sure does...but we'll call it an avant and it will be ok then.
