As much as i like the cadillac name and brand and basically everything that they stand for i just never really saw them competing or even comparing with the bmw's and benz'. to me they are so different. even the german brands dont necessarily compete with eachother. bmw had that survey not to long ago that found 75% of luxury car buyers dont consider bmw. and that was from the horses mouth(bmw's own survey) and its basically true. pure all out luxury will always be mercedes benz i dont think conquest sales are all that common or at least significant in this market. there are people who will only buy a benz regardless. and there always will be the bmw for the drivers driver. audi is the odd little duckling and vw is like the bastard child. or maybe the other way around, im not sure...my point is im just not getting the relevance of taking on these cars. the market is pretty much set with regards to whos buying what. lexus has been knocking on this door for a while now. i know caddy's can get up there in price but never as much as the german brands. hell, they dont even have a viable 12 cylinder engine. to be taken seriously this market pretty much demands you have one. cadillac should be more concerned with gaining a better percentage of marketshare from a new than stealing it from the germans who already have their dedicated fanbase.

thats not their style any more, if it ever was to begin with...thats up to scion and lexus now. like the rx or rf or some sh*t. the lexus supercar concept. talk about brass ones, theyre just hanging out there. thank you, but no thank you. you just build the appliances well take care of the cars. (well meaning almost anyone else .) even hyundai has more spunk in them, and thats not saying all that much. lets let toyota concentrate on the smll econoboxes and everyone else can focus on cars that matter. not just transortation.

so they got sh*tty glue. it happens. could be a lot worse. like windshield wipers that burst into flames for no reason or transmissions that melt.
-
yyup, that seems to be the question.
-
yeah and that mustve done wonders for their image. even more reason to distance yourself from it. overall it did suck but whatever the catalyst was its gone. they couldve kept the name and spruced it up a bit if they so chose. i still find it funny the escape came next.
-
well statesmen does sound more ritzy i suppose. invicta sounds like it might jump out and stab you. maybe a little bit harsh for the image buick is going after. i would still like to to see roadmaster make a comeback. even the skylark. lucerne and invicta would seem to me polar opposites.

i cant tell if it reminds me more of a shrunken minivan or a sneaker with some wheels attached to it.

amen to that. its like the HMO of car building.

Actually, it was the 70's el dorados that became the first, original pimp mobile. cadillac has become so "cool" again that things have just come around full circle. the brand has been recognized by rappers and inducted(indicted?) back into the culture after a long abscence. nobody that i can recall wanted to trick out the etc or catera. as far has "changing their face"-- how can you say its not. when was the last 2 seat roadster. when did they ever have a truck? the design and direction is vastly different. if somebody gets a nose job or an eyebrow tuck the face is different. it may not be accurate but its certainly not the same anymore. i think youre gripe is that its not complete, and that may be so but you gotta restart somewhere. its by no means time to break out the bubbly, theres still plenty of work left. i do however think its encouraging at this point. i cant even imagine what you were saying or thinking 7 or 8 years ago when they were really taking in water. personally, i dont think the sts is all that bad. as far as price and packages and what not i couldnt tell you but theres a good foundation there. at some point i dont see why that car cant come around. luxury buyers are quite picky and loyal at the same time. it will be interesting to see where this model goes in the next couple of years. i understand you dont like the dts but out of the whole lineup it is still the most likely to be considered by the original cadillac buyer. the "old man" car. slanted or not you cant neglect or foresake an entire demographic. if there was no dts cadillac would be accused of alienating their original fan base and core consumer market. now, im not saying it couldnt be better but i wouldnt be ragging on it so much. the cars not meant for me the same a suburban or porsche isnt meant for me.

with all the excitement and concern about gm's future i just forgot ford was/is in the same boat. sh*t will probably still get worse before it gets better. gotta just hope they can figure it out. the oj chase in the white ford "bronco" pretty much killed that truck, that was 94/95?. i just thought it funny that the "escape" came not too long after. i know they got that whole "e" thing going on...probably just a coincidence.

its pretty apparent that theyre getting more from less but i still dont trust those small motors churning out 200 hp for 4's and 300+ for the 6's maybe thats just me but how much can you squeeze out of it. somethings gotta give at some point. towing/hauling will never be without the power and torque of the v8. when it comes to passegers cars as you say, yeah, unless its the big benz' or cadillacs i dont think thats the first thing that comes to mind anymore. its an interesting thought and tend to agree on some parts but really just dont see it happening. dont forget that many of these v6 engines can wind up bigger than the v8's so as far as packaging goes it can get dicey. theres really no need for 12 cylinders but they exist still, is that the kind of status you see the 8 gravitating towards?

thats the point. renaissance: the revival of learning and culture originating from roughly the 16th century. A great flowering of art, literature, fashion, and knowledge after the more restrained Middle Ages. Renaissance is also the third album by the rock band Vanilla Fudge Etymology: French, from Middle French, rebirth, from renaistre to be born again, from Latin renasci, from re- + nasci to be born -- more at NATION 1 capitalized a : the transitional movement in Europe between medieval and modern times beginning in the 14th century in Italy, lasting into the 17th century, and marked by a humanistic revival of classical influence expressed in a flowering of the arts and literature and by the beginnings of modern science b : the period of the Renaissance c : the neoclassic style of architecture prevailing during the Renaissance 2 often capitalized : a movement or period of vigorous artistic and intellectual activity no i have to respectfully disagree. they are in a process of revamping their entire image and gaining the elusive street cred and recognition that has been sorely missing for years. minus the pimps. and well now i guess the rappers. hey its the stuff legends are made from. now, just because you only see a couple of cts' in toronto, used or what not, dont mean jack.the style and revitalization of the brand is the issue here, successful or not. the entire face of cadillac has changed, hence the rebirth thus the term that has been applied is renaissance, cmon now, youre from canada,a you should know this better than us Americans. and b just the comparison between the cadillacs pre 2001 and now is just ludicrous. im not going to argue market share or numbers but there has defiantely been some changes and reshaping going on. sorry if im repeating myself now. what were the sales numbers of the catera? does anyone have that? or better yet, what is the first thing people think of when they hear that name, if they even know what it is.

ford is in a world of pain right now... theyve got some good stuff there but i think they need to work on some other things right now. maybe its just me but i dont get any kind of sense of comfort when i hear bill ford speak...whatever the hell his name is. i just dont feel all that confident. for the life of me, considering their size and output i just cant understand why they have so many problems...f-150, explorer, focus, mustang......these are all top sellingmodels....what gives? taurus... what happened to them" gm's not going anywhere nd neither is ford...lets act like it. as a side...the bronco was cancelled when? i know the escape came soon after....im just tring to figure a timeline. anyone can help id appreciate it. thanks.

i know spaces are tight sometimes, but c'mon now. chances are whatever car youre in is gonna have some kind of issue when its time to park. you cant blame the car.
-
maybe the people who remember buicks for what they were can help these guys now figure out what it is buick should be...again.
-
that chinese built 3.4 l was the biggest detriment to this suv. if i was in the market for one id certainly wait around or look elsewhere. this however might shape up to be one nice little trucklet. with some honest power to it to boot. why not shove the v8 though? at least as an option. dont they realize most people dont care and there is no reason not to?

my god it looks like a dumpster fell on the back of that thing...that was my initial impression anyway. maybe they can slap some tail fins on it and smooth it out somewhat.

the most literal definition of renaissance is rebirth. if no one thinks that cadillac has undergone or is in the process of a renaissance i dont know what to tell you.
-
does this target previous customers who might not be so sure if they want the same ol thirsty car they had or do you think its for new customers as an added bonus? i think its a somewhat good campaign but does anyone think the numbers will justify it or will things remain status quo. id venture to guess thats why its for a limited time at first --just to see how it shakes itself out.

the dual exhaust? i thought it was the antenna first off but the wheel made no sense to me. If its one turn to lock then ok, but its usually one or two unless its speed sensitive or variable or some other nonsense, so im going with the dualies.

after the free servicing shell at least wind up with more than just an ipod. some of the press releases only mentioned a change up within toyota with no mention of the reasons why. that is the free pass. that is probably one of the things that prompted this particular rant. its not a big deal per se, but it happens. and also im pretty sure the plaintiff never expects this thing to go to court, if it happened in the first place, it was an overly inflated number and if it got "settled" for 1/10th of the "asking" price she still makes out like a bandit. i just hope for her that the money can make this pain go away.

Building the best, most advanced, most capable automobiles the world has or will ever see...when it feels like it. i know ive heard that somewhere before... that car must be a real smash to drive...maybe theyre stting their sights too low right now...maybe they really have something here. the next great sportsy car that everyone will want to own. or at least drive. they cant get it here fast enough. bastards.

hmmm, some viagra or cialis might cure that little problem. just watch out for those 4 hour erections, then you might want to call your doctor, or health care provider. and just for the record, if anyone is worried about 1 mpg just go shoot yourselves. thats nothing. its only possible to get so much from an engine. basically at this time right now, we know what to expect. unless its hybrid or a diesel dont get your hopes up.
