  1. When it comes down to it...people are all the same. Why feel the need to explicitly market something to one group in particular is beyond me. They never were before and if they were...they sure as hell didnt come right out and say it. God almighty. Tact? anyone. Tastefully done cars with a touch of class and elegance would appeal to anyone. Now just build them already for Christs sake. The Enclave is a good start. Again. For the umpteenth time.
  2. By virtue of the fact alone that this does not include models in the last 6 years in the least its unreasonable to solely blame GM. Theres a degree of fair use and that doesnt change with anything. Cassettes, pentiums, socks, c.d's, laserdiscs...t-shirts . vacuum tubes. or valves. ...whatever you want to call it. ... Anyone living in 2006 realizes nothing is going to last forever. The effects of this will be so minuscule I'd be surprised if anything even ever came of this. Do you know what its like finding an rca valve? Those bastards. I want my $h! to sound good jack> you know what I mean? Seriously, who gives a sh*t? besides the hungry pregnant (or with small children.) safety conscious (esp w/ocd)--diagnostically speaking. confused elderly handicapped diabetic anemic perpetually lost . Wouldnt want to find out any other way my airbag wasnt working- or the abs, engine, trans, airbags if I was that concerned as not to be. Fear sells.
  3. I dont see the point in continuing this. This should have already been closed.
  4. I dont see it as a pr nightmare and Im going to respectfully disagree with you. The most apt analogy would have to be concerning the switch to HD. I dont think sony, panasonic, or the US govt are sweating lawsuits over it. No matter how cranky people get without their television. I would have to know for a fact that GM used the technology knowing it would become useless after x amount of years. I would also have to know they didnt put up a fight (with ADT among others)--which evidentally they did. It is a reasonable, albeit unfortunate consequence of expanding technology. Its not an issue on the newer models and that was part of my initial point. It by no means should be the disaster you think it will be. If you bought a pair of shoes and the soles wore out --but you feel you had fair use out of them...thats it. Time for a new pair. If people really like their onstar they will not switch to a different make of car because they will still want that feature. And youre talking anywhere from 5-11 years of a useful service. Good luck finding a cell phone that lasts that long. Or a computer. Think of those poor bastards who bought a laserdisc or a video phone. I would feel much differently about this if included this years models, last years, and the year before that. one last thought--if someones contract expires and their Onstar is void--and they are in a ditch still pressing a button and waiting for help...thats just sad. Its appealing to sympathy and not much else. I liked the cell phone with no service while calling 911 mentioned above. Im all for accountability but it should be placed where it belongs.
  5. O.k. but they would be $h! out of luck if they could no longer find the parts for their Holley. So what then? Sue them, too? I admit I exaggerated an analaogy to illustrate a point. I could have said airbags, or antilock brakes...its just an illustrated point and out of context, without noting that is incomplete as i stated. It not GM's fault and to suggest I or someone else would feel differently if it was another manufacturer is just plain ol bs. Besides I looked real hard in the 07 Camry and I couldnt find an Onstar button anywhere. F*ckin Toyota.
  6. About the lawsuits--You wouldnt expect your carbureated car refitted with fuel injection. Or have direct injection added. Thats seems frivolous. The technology changed and thats all there is to it. Its sad, and its too bad both systems werent installed but that also is unreasonable... I do agree though...someone will find a reason to make it a federal case.
  7. Mercury, Chrysler, and now Buick are all going down this road. Chrysler already started. I think they feel if black guys/girls like it you will then be considered cool and hip. What bothers me is why tell everyone thats your plan? Cadillac is doing ok with the hippity hopp crowds and I dont think they even had to try.
  8. what i got from reading it. The cell companies got the mazoolah now and a good lobby. Blame the cos. blame the govt. it doesnt matter. I do think its a shame some will be unable to upgrade.
  9. Regarding the technology being switched when tvs go HD for good the same issues are going to pop up. Music might not be sold on c.d.'s sooner than you think. Its possible. Blue Ray might one day completely replace DVD and HD might die before it even gets out there. Its all a gamble...look at laser discs. I have the satellite cable so am not surprised to find out Onstar didnt work in the rain. If i had it for free, sure thats great but i doubt id pay for it. I can see many people that would however. I think it is a great service to offer--even if it doesnt work all the time. Sorry to hear about that Fly.
  10. they might want to lose the "red" part. we all want to save some "green"
  11. From a collectors standpoint its interesting how that stuff shakes out. But in the least most "improvements" can be retrofitted or modified at your own expense if you want to just sell it off... I think its just a departure from the SOS beuracratic bs that has pervaded the usual operating procedures. We all know nothing is ever going to be perfect...ever. Even in the 90K + Mercedes S class people want a thinner instruction manual.
  12. Its not about loving or hating a technology for me. The thing that pisses me off is toyotas marketing for this feature. They tout it as a safety feature. Its a luxury or convenience at best. GM could probably go with a safety themed marketing blitz with this, and succeed...but i see it more as we need to know everything about anything click a button and here it is internet age. It is good to know all that info. Its nice to have it at your fingertip... why not say the special coating on the windshield wiper clears the rain better than a xxxx...the liquid crystal display (emphasis on crystal) is at the perfect ambience not to disorient you while checking the time?...its all bogus or gimmicky to me. Its a convenience and nothing more. If GM were smart enough or able to theyd find a way to incoorporate it into your cell phone. ...maybe thats whats next.
  13. When they started using E-Z pass around here the first thing I thought was- now theyll know how long it takes you to get in between toll booths. Some places you dont even need to slow down to pay the toll, it just reads it. Its never been a problem but looking at the monthly statement im either saying-- damn! how long was i sitting in traffic or sh*t I should slow down some more. Its been a few years since and no warnings or tickets or pats on the back. I guess if you said theres a sattelite watching me you wouldnt necesarily be lying.
  14. yup. ehh. dont need it, ...if im out doing something...why do you need to reach me? Sometimes I just dont want to be found. And most people dont have the sense God gave them when their on their cellys in particular. Just yesterday Driver's fatal cell phone mistake Dongan Hills woman dies, passengers hurt in crash blamed on distraction Thursday, November 16, 2006 By JOHN ANNESE A driver reaching for her cell phone was killed when she veered into oncoming traffic and slammed into another vehicle on Hylan Boulevard in Prince's Bay yesterday. Tracy Ann Beattie, 35, of Dongan Hills, was Tottenville-bound in an Oldsmobile sedan, chatting with two friends in her car, when she reached down to grab her phone, according to a police source close to the investigation. I understand thats not everyone...but its not the first time so there are others. Accidents waiting to happen. And im sorry but I just dont see the importance of keyless entry. I can think of times and places i might not want my doors to unlock by themselves. 4 wheels a motor and everything else is gravy.
  15. They can already do that stuff now if they so choose. Be careful of those fiber optics, too.
  16. I like the idea of them being separate but understand how it can be a nuissance--although i personally find it more of a convenience. General question--Is the fob able to disengage from the actual key on the BMW or any integrated keys you know of? so you can run into a store by detaching it somehow.
  17. Thats funny.. but how many crashes or malfunctions were prevented because of what was learned from those crashes?. I dont know the answer but who wants to be known as a white lab rat anyway. It isnt only about figuring out what went wrong, but why and how to possibly correct it so the same thing doesnt happen to my ass or yours. I still dont know if its worth it.
  18. Im not sure I get what youre saying. If you have 2 BMW's its ok? A fob is a fob. I dont mean to sound like a wise ass. Not all cars are gonna match anyway. And if you need two sets of keys why not leave them in the glove. Unless you were dumb enought o program the starting location on the navigation screen to your house? I heard a Toyota commercial earlier today that pissed me off. It was a woman talking about how glad she was her toyota unlocked the doors for her as she walked near it. It sensed her key and she didnt have to fumble around her purse for it. Have we become this lazy? Since when dodnt you have your keys out to begin with? They got some balls. I cant even begin to start. I was never one for the beepers and cell phones;unless i really need to have one. And im glad when i dont...This is all very decadent in a way to me, but ive never seen a key chain with all those readouts. And theres onstar if youre really f@#ked...i wonder if theres a panic button on the fab for an emergency. That would be something.
  19. Like a Phoenix.... Rising from Arizona.
  20. That just sounds like one more thing to lbreak or lose. Whats wrong with getting the ol' electrical tape out and putting it around the key. Or if you want facny they sell color coded key rings.. I think its a good idea and the fact yhou can lock the doors with the car running without removing the door key (if you even have one)...then all the better.
  21. Thats what the majority of car buyers want. And the price is right according to the story. What about headlights? or do they all shut off automatically now. How many times did you start to walk away from your car and wonder if you locked it up?
  22. Yeah, thats it. Theyre foreshadowing the comeback of the fire bird. Cleverly disguised in a photoshop. Lets count every 7 and 11th letter to reveal the rest of the message. Anyone wonder how rumours get started. All in all, very Machiavellian when you ponder it.
  23. Not sure; but am I the only one who sees this as possibly a good thing?
  24. If thats what it takes...Lets see if they can still keep the prices down now, too. Wheres razor? You believe that sh*t?
  25. Actually, after the beating lexus took last year--even after the Suntrust literally burned to the ground--they had to figure out a way to come back. so technically they were a step behind. This next season should answer some more questions. Bring out your dead> haha
