  1. It took the GTO --a hallowed and iconic name-- 30 years to 'come back', and "Malibu" about 20. If we can pull anything from that, it'll take a good 25 years before there's a chance "LeSabre" comes back.
  2. '59s were static in value for a number of years, but about 5 yrs ago they began to jump and since then have tripled in market value. My '59 Invicta was listed as being worth $7K in #1 condition for years. It eased my decision to modify the car extensively. Now the price guide lists it as being worth $23K in #1. I am certain that the actual first '59 LeSabre was NOT saved for posterity purposes. Since '59 Buicks were made in 8 different assembly plants, by VIN number there would be 8 "first" '59 LeSabres, as far as tracking any survivors down today. But there is not a level of interest in '59 LeSabres that anyone is doing that. But there are tens of thousands of Buick enthusiasts and the LeSabre is as appreciated as many of the more flashy Buicks (Wildcat, Riviera, Electra225, etc).
  3. I'm gonna have to release naught but love for my company. Tho I have no collision anymore, I have notably more than minimum coverage otherwise and I pay about $310 per year on my '94 F-150. I'm married, over 25 yrs old, don't live in a city and have the best company in the state with a preferred corporate rate. If everyone has to catch a break sometimes, this is mine. Back when I was a single young'un, I still never paid anywhere near $1000/yr.
  4. >>"I know that paypal (who I'm already registered with) will take a cut, and I know it helps to have pics of some sort."<< 5 years running and I still don't use PayPal. I take personal checks, money orders (and sometimes I even get sent cash). It's never been a problem and PayPal doesn't get any of my money. You really have to have pics. I've seen a number of rare, desireable items listed but with no pic: no bids. >>"But how much does it cost to post something;"<< Varies depending on a number of options. Items starting less than $10 with no extras (such as reserve price or 'Buy It Now', etc) are 35 cents IIRC. Add to that a percentage based on the selling price. For instance I just sold a pair of '60 Caddy taillight bezels, cost me .60 cents to start it, they sold for $46 and based on that eBay took $1.89 more. Gross: $46, net: $43.51 >>"how many items can you post that are tied to your account"<< I don't believe there's a limit, I've seen individual's selling around 100 items at once. (How they keep track of the payments & shipping, I cannot imagine.) >>"is whatever you post guaranteed to sell;"<< Of course not. >>"and what comes first, getting paid for the item, or shipping the item to the person?"<< Always get paid before you ship it. And if it's a check- wait until it clears before shipping. Buyers always pay for shipping costs, too, unless you're extraordinarily generous. I have gotten pretty good at estimating; sometimes I'm over, sometimes under. It equals out over the long run. If you want to make 2 trips to the post office over one item, knock yourself out. >>"I got all kinds of stuff I'm ready to get rid of, from records to crap in the garage to the car."<< Cars are a different catagory. They cost $40 to list. I sold one last year for $1000, eBay's cut on top was another $40. All cars & car-related stuff is actually on ebaymotors.com If you poke around on the ebay home page, you'll eventually find all the requirements & charges explained. I love eBay. I found this baseball ticket stub in a book I bought. I could not throw it away, it was from 1944 (Boston Braves). It sat around on my desk for 8 months before I took a pic and threw it up. Sold for $26. You start looking at everything around the house...
  5. Right, that's why I recommend having multiple browser windows set up with ascending bids, so you can just click 'submit bid' in a second. Covers your ass if you really want the item.
  6. Panther 6, 1978 (UK):
  7. You have to give a credit card # to register with eBay; either to buy or sell; no way around that. FlyBrian gave a spot-on definition of how the bidding works. Only thing I would add to all of the above is: if you do wait until the last actual minute and there are a few other bidders involved, you might not have enough time to find out what their bid might be, and you may --in your frenzy to be high bidder-- end up spending more than you wanted to finding out the max bid the current high bidder entered. My suggestion if you choose to be a last-minute bidder (called 'sniping'): open at least 1 new browser window (if not 2 or 3), all set up with increasing bids. You enter the lowest bid and if you are not then the highest, you can one-click the next bid in in a few seconds. This is mandatory for those sad sacks still using dial-up. (HI THERE!) I've been on eBay for about 5 years now, primarily selling. I do sell a large quantity of other's stuff for a cut; anywhere from 25% to 50%. Best item I sold was my wife's cousin's never-assembled pedal boat from the '60s. He thought it might have gotten $100 or $200 and about fell on the floor when I showed him it sold for $2100.
  8. That's it in my sig. Love this car; it's lines are simple yet fantastic. Wish I had more time & less projects so I could buy it.
  9. Happily, the continual eroding of mercedes continues. FWD 4-banger "premium" SUV??:lol::lol::lol: Nothing premium about that interior.
  10. That's Rebel Without a Cause from 1955, starring James Dean. Not only is the car iconic, unquestionably the movie is too. Jackass 'journalism' at it's best. Makes me want to drop a '49 Merc off a jack onto the torsos of these journalists, so they can scream up at the Mercury hood emblem and learn something worth knowing for a change.
  11. It had better f**king not! 8 million foriegn cars flooding the roadways annually sure doesn't seem to!

    Buick

Anyone remember triple-stripe whitewalls? Not sure if or on what they may have came- I associate them more with replacement tires, but I've seen them now & again in the past. I like 'em, tho I have nothing they'd be appropriate on.
  13. Interesting that both saab photo ops were next to Eldorados.
  14. Looked over a '40 Plymouth coupe, a '40 Dodge coupe and a phasmagoric '41 Cadillac coupe with a 390 underhood today. Caddy had a freakin' manual trans in it! Everytime I get close to these classics, new cars just look worse & worse and worse to me. There was a lexus GS parked near the '41: looked like dried vomit in comparison.
  15. I had thought a legal "motorcycle" required less than 4 wheels?
  16. Thanks Harley; as much as I appreciate unique elements, the 'HC' looks better without the scallops.
  17. Wife's ex- '98 Intrique: NOx-- standard: 625. Reading: 31 HC-- standard: 78. Reading: 2 CO-- standard: 0.44. Reading: 0.00 Sure- there's always room for improvement, but that's a damned clean pipe. Contrast: '59 Buick Invicta (in 1986, mileage circa 97K): NOx-- no test HC-- standard: 1600. Reading: 874 CO-- standard: 10.0. Reading: 6.74
  18. God, that saab interior SUCKS! What a fussy, busy mess. I don't like the BLS at all. I don't think it's bad as an entry-level european vehicle, but God forbid it comes to the States; it ain't no Cadillac. The detail that bothers me the most is the absence of the 'shuttered' eggcrate grille, ALA the CTS. That, and it really doesn't look very upscale. Given the vote, I would not green light it.
  19. I want to like those fender scallops... I really do... :(
  20. The '61 Eldo is easily the least significant & valuable E up to that point since they began in '53. Oh sure, still a great car, but nearly forgotten even within the fans of vintage Cadillac. It was the first year the special Eldorado touches & unique sheetmetal & trim were totally gone. Arguably the low point between '53 and '70. Obviously another wild, in-the-dark stab by a "journalist" far too busy to even try and appear informed. And there are a lot more Eldorados than '59, Moltar.
  21. FlyBrian- I've seen a great quantity of pics of the Flitewing over the years, and tho it has some really cool & innovative features, it also has plenty of stylistic oddness to it, too. Oh; it's still more hip than the AMC Cavalier, but it's no Miss America, either.
  22. 185,000 unit net increase. Don't you feel stupid, Dave Healey.
  23. What is the nature of the 'agreement'; in that: is it a license or does it otherwise grant 'permission' to sell in the U.S.? What I'm getting at is; is there a technical & legal way to outright refuse the companies' product? I'd like to know exactly where to direct my anger in situations like this...
  24. Ahhh.... And since when in recent decades have the cars themselves not been enough ammo against NASCAR? It purpose is not to 'send a message', that's ridiculous. Those that read one in this case do so because they are at least somewhat fixated on race. Making stereotypical race-related comments only further supports this. If NASCAR was somehow race-restricted the allegation is legitimate. But it's not and it's not. Trying to make it a legitimate issue doesn't help anyone involved. Just curious: ever watch any pro basketball teams??
  25. At least with Cadillac & Led Zepplin, the image of Robert Plant is primarily when he was in his 30s(?). Jagger & Richards look like they're in their 80s. Wonder if it'll nudge up the average buyer age of mercedes?? :P
