^ COVID / chip shortages / material constraints are throwing all traditional manufacturing timelines out the window.

Reading on a GMC page where an owner of a 2015 model/70K miles is angry his truck's paint is starting to bubble over the front bumper, and 'this is why people leave GM'. Took 1 second to find this toyoter owner complaining about the paint peeling off the door bottom of his 2018 tundra.... in 2019 (with 13K miles) - just peeling off in one sheet :

Item: 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 Duramax
balthazar replied to balthazar's topic in Member's Rides Showcase
As I bid farewell to my '04 Silverado, I reflect on some of the vast interface changes between it & the '21 Sierra. • I thought I'd dislike, or at least find useless; the A-Pillar grab handles. Nope- I love them. • On the other hand I haven't made much if any use of the rear bumper corner steps. • The backup camera / image is pretty good/clear, has the 'angling lines' on screen, but I still back up using side mirrors. The camera I use basically the last bit of backing into a spot. • Inside storage is a significant improvement. • The keyless entry thing (which the wife's '16 Malibu has); you sure get used to in a hurry. ? • Went for a local ride today, wife's comment was 'I love how much room there is in this!' About 3450 miles, 400-mile average is hovering around 22.7 on the dash. -
Sale concluded today- thanks for 159K basically trouble-free miles and a ton of work/money-making. Chevy- you built a helluva 2500HD!

Rivian R1T Production Trucks Rolls Off Assembly Line
balthazar replied to G. David Felt's topic in Rivian
The probable issue is the SAE standard hasn't been amended for consoles, so OEMs measure using the standard as is, ignoring the console. I agree it should be updated. But as stated; bench seats are alive & well in trucks- one of the biggest segments in the industry. And if BE's become a major segment, they have no need for a transmission tunnel or shifter- so perhaps a bench may come back online there- who knows. -

Nope- never seen an actual front hip dimension from any source; mags don’t take the time and OEMs apparently self-report. It’s not ‘obsolete’; it’s marketing. -

Bench is standard in all current GM pickups; console/buckets is an option. Plenty built in all cab configurations (don’t know about Ram or Ford). Yeah- the standard never changed as consoles slowly became more common. My truck should probably be listed as having around 45 or 47” front hip room. But no dimensions from any OEM do it that way. -

^ If you mean literal room, we'll never know. OEMs ignore consoles and report numbers as if everything was equipped with bench seats. It's weird. GMC Sierra : 61.2" hip room (but mine has a console). The interiors on this generation GM trucks are huge. -

^ Where to draw lines here? If a Suburban @ 60.5" is 'full-size', does that make your 57" 'mid-size'? I think my point stands- vehicles have not gotten roomier in width, that's for sure. Beyond that, behind the wheel spaces are just tighter in general. -

Rivian R1T has an overall width of 81.8 with mirrors folded. Not sure if a fraction of the folded mirror is still adding to that width or not. My B-59's overall width is 80.8 (body- no mirrors included- but they don't protrude from that width anyway). R1T front hip room is 54.9" (and that totally ignores the center console), and the B-59's front hip room is 66.1. Your Suburban's hip room is 60.5". Going down 5.5" right there. Of course, only a 'test fit' will determine compatability. -
Circa '57 Chevy Cameo pickup- I've seen it before, rough/unrestored, in a residential driveway.

Looked good for him. Seriously, for as anti-religion as the populous seems to be going toward, it feels like some of this commentary is coming from Vatican City. 'Thou shall not receive lap dances'.

Those aren’t reviews you posted; they’re Rivian press releases. I say tighter because that’s the trend over the comparitive 27-yr old Suburban you’re used to. More storage space (console), thicker doors (crash protection), more substantial arm rests, etc. -
All right, go ahead; be specific about the design of the vehicle (not the lighting, not the background, not the photographic angle, not the purpose, not the intended use, etc); just the car itself. What do you specifically find beautiful RE a '74 Monaco. Shine a light.
