  1. Except @ BMW, 'i' means 'injected', not 'electric'. OEMs should have done what they've generally / traditionally done; build a model with either an IC option, or a BE option in the same body. Now mercedes has a parallel s-class competing in the same showrooms with the traditional IC s-class.
  2. Watch their values over the next few years.... These are in the same 'value vein' as the Buick GNXs.
  3. Blackwings aren't 'marked up'; they're already APPRECIATING. ?
  4. DOHC.
  5. This, you recycle : THIS, you save :
  6. It's effected the 5.3L & 6.2L engines, across the Company. There's a reputed sub-set that affected Sept '20 thru April '21 built trucks, but some owners have claimed it goes farther back than that. Thankfully, my engine has no lifters. ?
  7. I posted a dozen photos of vehicles David would proclaim were 'dumping fluids' & 'never get restored' (because (somehow) he knows the disposable income of everyone everywhere).... yet still got restored anyway. Funny, that. As for auto graveyards, trust me; I have a 35-yr history going to dozens of them (NJ, PA, NY) / buying parts remotely... and every one from the first 20 of those 35 years is gone. The periodic run ups on steel scrap prices plus local/state ordinances plus rising land values plus exorbitant liability & insurance costs have done away with the majority of junkyards. It's no longer a common thing; there's still some, but nothing like it was in the '70s, 80s, 90s. It's a completely different scenario now. Here’s yet another ‘never going to be restored’ because ‘nobody has any money’ (?!?!) car :
  8. Tesla stock pays no dividends.
  9. There’s no connection between dry-sump oiling systems and ticking sounds from an engine.
  10. This is the core separation in David's & my viewpoint, as I see it. He sees an old, rusty car parked next to a barn, and his impulse is to have it shredded and melted into another shitbox corolla. I see it and want to see it preserved, rejuvenated and care-taken into the future, even if that means sliding it into a garage for another 50 years, untouched.
  11. ^ Agreed. And I made this very example previously; if a McDonald's cheeseburger doesn't have the same price at every store in every state all the time, why would one expect a motor vehicle to; a product that's incalculably more complex & varied?
  12. That’s the thing tho- it doesn’t have to be a crazy nut-n-bolt show car or a hi-buck resto-mod. That’s the fallacy: any level of preservation / caretaking is a positive & can be enjoyed. And there’s certainly not many desirable ‘60s car sitting in fields anymore; they’re either saved or gone for the most part. If in were the ‘80s, it’d be completely different.
  13. Automotive recycling :
  14. Online sales snapshot; works OK when tiny/starting up, but problems multiply with growth.
  15. Just on the transmission tho? Why not push oil changes up to 50K miles, in the same vein? Engine replacements are WAY more expensive than that of a transmission.... I'm not seeing this 'selective part death wish' theory holding much water, despite the assurances of the GM advisor you once spoke to. I never had a transmission go out on me.
  16. Under your preference, I would have to have paid $10 grand more for my truck. YOU can pick up the difference for me next time, thanks! The wait times NOW for Tesla service/repair work often stretches out months, wait until Tesla has 10 or 100 million vehicles across the country.
  17. Once you eliminate all competition and create a monopoly, the exact opposite will occur. You're playing right into the OEM's hands. OR, they don't have the money / infrastructure to create one.
  18. B-b-but if dealerships make the bulk of their income in the service department AND OEM's prefer to avoid mass warranty costs... wouldn't GM lean towards recommending -say- 50K mile filter changes?? Keep in mind one cannot compare engine oil & trans oil lifespans. A transmission is a closed hydraulic system, but an IC engine sees air & gasoline contaminates introduced into the oil, plus significantly higher temperatures on average. I'm with you on earlier-than-recommended oil changes, but with the trans it's a waste of time/money, technically.
  19. Where does the factory trans service interval recommendations fit into the above?
  20. I hear all sorts of brands ticking & clunking & whirring walking thru parking lots. The GM V8 thing seems to have more than 1 theorized cause, but the bottom line on both my statements here is- complexity is up 10-fold, and some minor noises are the compromise in order to deliver 'X' on other fronts. The ticking in & of itself isn't impacting functionality in any way. Your Escalade is 'old school', so to a degree was my 2500HD 6.6L.
  21. Non-Corvette V8’s are wet sump. Dry-sump systems are for high lateral loading (high performance acceleration / handling).
  22. Beetle (slightly modified) :
  23. 30K miles trans filter replacement is bonkers-frequent, IMO. I've never ever heard anyone recommend (or perform) at such short intervals. I do agree with your take on flush vs. drop & drain.
