Follow-Up Test: 2007 Dodge Charger Police Package
Intrepidation replied to Intrepidation's topic in Chrysler
The 3.5 makes more horsepower than the Crown Vic's V8 and has an extra gear in the tranny...it's hardly a slouch. -
Armed and ready to kick some perp's butt http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drive...otopanel..1.*#2 What Works: Powerful engine, agile chassis, mean and athletic-looking. What Needs Work: Small trunk, low rear-door opening, high-effort shifter, a bit narrow for hips wearing gun belts. Bottom Line: Dodge fortifies the Charger for enforcement duty and produces the most capable police sedan ever built.

How much do they tend to charge for a whole car?
-
Weren't they similar to the Dodge 600? I always wanted to rescue a car, but I never knew the process...I had asked about a Shadow I saw once, but they said it had no title...so they couldn't sell it.
-
The Sonata is a nice car, I've poked around one before. It's also proof that Hyundai is making progress stylistically, because IMO it's one of the most attractive (if bland) cars in the segment. It's definitely a mistake to underestimate them. They've come a long way in a much shorter period of time than the Japanese did.

If Tesla Motors can come up with a lithium-ion battery, GM can. I love the Tesla Roaster.

Why are the first 2 posts (especially the first one) being anal retentive grammar freaks? This isn't English class. ANyway, I've always had a soft spot for the 9-3...even with the hard plastic dash. I like the looks of it. Saabs are neat cars...just beware of gremlins.

They Amanti is a horrible car with poor handling, driving dynamics, and engine choices...it is also a hideous knockoff of the Jaguar S-Type. I agree about the Cee'd, it does look quite nice, but so have a lot of Hyundai/Kia concepts...that never make it into production. I can't help but laugh at the codename "Snowflake" Sounds like the name of a little white poodle (which would probably be faster in a straight line) Hyundai is getting better, and so is Kia, but they have yet to find a good, consistent "style".

What I love about this junkyard is that, besides always having at least one vehicle in stock that I'm looking to get parts for, is that they uh...don't check your toolbox or pockets (and I got a big-ass toolbox for X-mas)
-
Yup, anywhere from 7-10 inches of snow due in my area, as well as sleet and freezing rain. I have work tomorrow...I don't wanna go!

Went there again today, this time with Jessica. Of course it was raining somewhat so the mud puddles were huge. We wandered around the "new stuff" and Chrysler sections. One of the Intrepids I had looked at yesterday had been crushed...there eerily, a blue one like mine there now...2.7L...it also looked like it was in great shape...but had some of the dash taken apart. We went over to the GM section to the Prizm. I wanted (and hoped) to see if my screwdriver I left there yesterday was still there, and thankfully it was. This Prizm was an LSI, so it had much nicer cloth seats, door panels, and sun visors (the ones in her Prizm are horribly;y cheap vinyl that's painful to touch). Since the driver's seat no longer longer moved fore and aft on it's track, newer and nicer seats sounded good. We couldn't take the ear seat because her's don't fold down, and these did. It's ok, because the pattern is pretty similar...so the seats won't look that out of place. For $h!s and grins I pulled the dome light out of the Prizm too (here's hasn't worked in years, I was going on a hunch that the contacts may have just been corroded), I also grabbed a spare driver's door handle, which I'll probably give to my friend with the Corolla, so the cheap bastard finally fixes it. She also decided to take after Sixty8's hobby of grabbing badges, so we have a couple Dodge Badges, a Geo badge, a (metal!) 2-piece Cadillac badge, a Kia badge, Eagle badge and a Mitsubishi badge. I poked around the section, and decided to check out a 1994 Grand Prix (I have always loved the exterior of that generation). The interior design was actually not bad for it's age...the plastics were hollow, brittle, and cheap...but I could live with them. When wee got home it was kinda drizzling, so we stayed inside, but there was a break in the weather, and with the impending Nor' Easter, it was now or wait a while...so we took teh old seats out, cleaned the area up, put the new ones in (after cleaning them), put the visors in, and for the hell of it, I replaced the dome like...an whaddoya know? When I hooked up the battery cable...it came on! She was thrilled to finally have a dome light, as was I, because now I can see the road map at night while delivering! The seats are great...so much more comfortable than the old ones. All this for 90 bucks!

Yeah I know that's where an tear. I can tell the difference...by the way how the hell did she break it with her ass?! Wanna know something funny? The leather still felt great. That's good stuff in there.

I like the Tahoe's/Suburban's nose better.

Ouch BV, that looks rough...it's almost like looking a the the Shadow's fenders! The Shadow's worse though...rust as eaten through the drivers door and the rocker panels by the rear wheel wells on both sides. Rock salt is pure evil for cars. The best you can do is wash it as often as you can to help prevent it. I washed the Intrepid every time I gassed up this winter, and the Prizm, those less often, quite a few times as well. The Prizm has tiny bits of rust developing due to paint chips from the dirt/gravel my girlfriend used to have to drive it on in Kansas. The Intrepid, oddly enough, has a small, rust spot on the top of the driver's side door frame...I'm gonna get that touched up this spring. Hope you get that poor car some TLC this spring/summer!

It's a bummer you didn't get the 5-speed with that V6 man. I'm not sure why people are knocking the LX cars' interiors...they're quite nice. (actually I know why because D1S 1 4 GM S1T3 AND CHRYSLER ALWAYS IS T3H SUXZORS). the 300, Magnum, and Charger have better materials than the stuff in the Impala, for example...yet no one ever bitched about the Impala's sea of hard plastic that is shamed by the Monte Carlo's interior. I would have to say, I'm with you. I don't demand interiors be made of ass-rubbingly soft materials on every surface of the interior. I can live with hard plastic as long as there is soft stuff where it matters...I'm not using the dash as a pillow...so it's not mandatory that it be soft...it's a nice bonus. Chrysler products sure as hell could use nicer interiors, and improvements are welcome. But if the car handles good, has good power, features and looks good, and has at least a nice interior design, I'll let it slide.
-
Actually, it wasn't an "appropriate comparison" smartass. I was basically noting that the materials felt very nice, as a side note from the "300C is t3h sux" discussion.. I mean c'mon, Chrysler could line the interior with velvet, suede, leather, baby's ass, more wood than a forest and more metal than a steel factory and some people would still bitch at it. The Aurora interior comment is, as I said, a side note for this discussion, I saw one today and I felt like posting about it. Anyway, if you wanna go into "boo hoo, it's an old car so it's OK for it to fall apart" Well that `93 Prizm I stole parts off had it's interior panels still solidly attached to it...you know...and economy car VS an luxury car? A wrecked one no less...that had been sitting in the yard longer than the Aurora. FYI, I love the Aurora...first or 2nd gen.

So I went to Lowell Used Auto today, initially planning to buy an antenna for the Prizm, But as we all know, you never just get one thing at the junkyard I wandered around the main lot for a while...it's where everything besides GM cars are put (as well as new arrivals). I saw 4 Intrepids there, which made me sad. 2 were wrecked, one of them had no engine, and the other actually looked ok...but I couldn't get at it...probably a dead 2.7L. There was a row of 3 previous gen Caravans. Now, I like looking around and seeing if any of the vehicles will still turn over or light up. Sure enough, the last one I looked at (which had been repainted red from its original blue started up, and even went into gear and drove (although the engine sputtered and the "check engine soon" light was on. I swiped some tail lights out of the Intrepids, and I also found one of them had the instrument panel pulled apart. Sure enough, the tachometer and speedometer use 2 bulbs to light up, while the rest use 1...I guess I have a burnt out one. I wanted to practice pulling the dash part..but the other Intrepid was covered in glass from a wreck and the one in good shape was blocked off. In the "recent arrivals" section, there was a black 1rst gen Aurora sitting by the entrance. The body looked pretty good except the hood was messed up. There was glass all over the interior, but poking around from outside revealed some nice soft stuff...too bad it was poorly assembled. I also saw (and this is crazy) an Impala, like this one: No wheels, but the suspension was all there. Missing the grill and bumpers but the body had no rust on it, it was mostly primed, although it had no interior save the sash and steering wheel...it was marked as "junk" -- After that, I heaed to the GM section (which is it's own area across the street from the rest of the junkyard). BV, this may make you cry, but I saw a red Pontiac Fiero sitting in the GM section...body still intact. I saw a Caprice sedan and wagon that still looked nice on the outside. There was a few junked and gutted 80's Camaros there, a previous gen Monte Carlo, some older and newer buicks (2 junked Regals), and a bunch of other stuff. To my luck there was one Geo Prizm. It was a `93. It had been in a wreck. I managed to get an antenna (which is lucky cuz those things break so easily), I also pulled out the HVAC control assembly, the center stack (for the vents), and an armrest! I didn't know this, but the Prizm/Corolla armrest just screws into the space that is just a storage area for base models. It also had the upgraded upholstery seats, which we may go back for in the morning, as well as nicer door panels. One thing that was funny about that Prizm was a bumper sticker that read "my next police car will have a hemi" I thought it was funny. I also grabbed a hood badge for my Intrepid since it was missing it. Total cost: $25 bucks! I got home and managed to install everything but the damn antenna. I can't find the bloody wire behind the kick panel in ours...I'lkl probably just ask the mechanic to do it for us real quick...hopefully it takes like 15 minutes. For the first time since I rode in that car it has working HVAC lights...so no longer is it a dark center stack at night...the armest (though hard plastic) is sweet. That was my day, it was fun (albeit a bit sad). Tomorrow I shall go back for more!

Need New Floor Mats For Your Pontiac?
Intrepidation replied to Oracle of Delphi's topic in Heritage Marques
Sounds like a salespitch too me...too bad I don't own a Pontiac -
I sorta poked around a junked Aurora today. The dash materials felt nice, but the assembly quality was horrible. No, you can't blame it on being in a junkyard because aside from the busted windshield and a popped up hood, it was in very nice shape...too bad, I'd like it...it was black too.
-
Using a $h!ty interior photo of the 300 is a great way to get your point across (sarcasm). Personally, I like the design of the 300M better, but the detailing of the 300C more (metallic trim, chrome accents, neat interior colors). There is nothing wrong with the 300C's interior. The LX cars have pretty good interiors in both build and materials quality. The Caliber VS Neon would probably be a better comparison...because the Neon had better materials.
-
Here's a strange one: I was at the junkyard getting ready to leave (I got some parts for the Prizm) and this guy next to me in a riced out Civic hatch asks me if I want to buy it. I'm like...uhh...no thanks.
-
Just for curiosity;s sake...what do you guys think of these? http://www.custom-wheels-car-rims.com/Stor...;ShowLarge=True They're kinda neat, although I'm still leaning towards he V10s.
-
Mm...I've never been a fan of black wheels, or anything painted. I also don't like wheels that are too small., they make the proportions of a car look odd.
-
Yeah, why not? People spend 10 grand an up to put ugly wheels on their 80's Civics. The car is worth like 6 grand, I just got it for a really good deal. I like polished myself...but they didn't come in that style and I have yet to see a polished one (outside teh SRT vehicles) I like. The V10's have been calling me since I saw them. I just wonder what 18's look like on the Intrepid. I don't want them oversized, but a good size at the same time. BV: They would look good on the MilleniaI think
-
So this summer I'd like to put in enough extra hours at work to get some wheels for the Intrepid. I was thinking either 18, 19, or 20 inch wheels...although I'd like to see what they look like on the car in those sizes. Anyway, these are the 2 that I really like: http://www.custom-wheels-car-rims.com/Stor...;ShowLarge=True http://www.custom-wheels-car-rims.com/Stor...;ShowLarge=True I like the elegant simplicity of the V10's, plus they closely resemble Dodge's style of 5-spoke wheels I like the slightly more daring but still tasteful design of the Foose wheels. So guys, what do you think would look better? Or is there another style that might look good. I'd consider 6-spokes, although I prefer 5. They must be tasteful, and they can't look like pie plates. Thanks for the input Of course I need to consider the width of the wheels and how they would fit in the wheel wells. I'm not sure how to take those measurements...is there a way to get them online?
