If I ever get pulled over...I want it to be by a Charger!
-
Well, either my mom is going to get a new car or the Shadow will need some serious work done soon..either way it needs to be done, as I want to hang onto it as a first car for my brother or as a winter beater. Here's the major to-do list: Everything probably leaks, with the exception the the head gasket (it was replaced several year ago). That being said, most are small leaks you could live with...but the vale cover gasket needs to be done. It's leaking badly these days, and it's evident as you can see oil all over teh engine and some on the transmission. oil needs to be added every few weeks or so. I have a reapir manual (liek all the cars I work on), and it doesn't look too hard to replace it, but are there any things I should be aware of and look out for? Next up is the fuel injectors and/or throttle body. Basically, the car stalls when it's cold out, and going in reverse sometimes. It usually does this when coming to a stop (just before stopping) or just as you begin to accelerate. The throttle body has been mentioned. So whats better....replace it all together or try to clean it...and how do I go about cleaning these assorted components. If replacing them is the better option...will used ones do fine or do they need to be brand new...and how much would they cost used or new? Mechanically, these are the biggest offenders...but there is some other stuff.. The wiper arm assembly below the cowl needs to be replaced, mainly because of an issue with the windshield washer fluid. Next up is the body... It has rust...and lots of it. That being said, I have a lot of spare parts for it. This includes: Hatch (no spoiler) Passenger Door Passenger Fender (the current one was never replaced after the accident) But the tough parts are the floor plan and the area where the rocker panel meets the rear wheel well (both sides). Those have been rusting for a long time, and at one point sheet metal was bolted onto it to cover it up...but on one side it has fallen off because teh rust spread to where it was bolted to. Should I go to the junkyard and see if I can get those sections cut out and bolt them to the car...or is there a better solution? As for the floor...there's a whole on the driver's side...what's he best way to fix it (detailed instructions on how to patch it would be appreciated! -- I know, it's a lot to do for a silly Shadow, but it's been around for a while and I have sentimental attachment to it...I learned to drive in it. And the Cudas aren't mine yet so I'm not going to put effort or money into them until that changes. That, and, what else is there to do? The intrepid is fine...the Prizm needs front rotors...if I can do it myself then I will but I've never tackled brakes before...is it hard? On a side note...I'm looking at a `93 Buick LeSabre for $600 on Craigslist...it's actually close by and supposedly everything works...maybe we'll take a look. I actually know where it is...how are LeSabres with the 3800? Yeah...it's a lot in one post...sorry!

Look ma, no bangle butt! It looks really good, even the interior...the only thing I don't care for is the busy lines on the lower body...I don't like how they swoop upward the way they do...and how there's 2 of them...1 would be fine

As I recalled, the handling of the Neon wasn't it's weak point...but I haven't driven a PT or a Neon to back that up...likewise I've "heard" that the HHR has tepid handling.

Well not quite, because the CTS and Malibu aren't in the same brand portfolio...a more accurate comparison would be the DTS to the CTS...in the CTS' favor. If we ant to do another comparison...this one is actually more accurate... "Americanized" G6 GXP (which was recently unveiled) VS "Not Americanized" G8 And remember, just because a car is cheaper doesn't mean it can't be beautiful. Just to clarify, I'm not saying American design is bad, because we've got such awesomness as said Sky, Charger, Corvette Z06 and so on...but there's no need to "Americanize" a car to fit a "brand identity" that doesn't really exist. Buick has portholes and a waterfall grill...and to a smaller extent curvy lines...which for the most part haven't worked out for it...and Pontiac had it's split grill and hood scoops.

I most certainly want to get the under body protected. On my car there is a rust spot about the side of a quarter on teh driver's door frame by the roof...I have no idea how it got there. I plan to have it fixed before winter too. My girlfriend's has a lot of smarll chipd from rocks and the like on the hood..since the car spent most of it's life driving down a dirt/gravel road everyday. Those areas go down to teh metal on the hood...I wonder if repainting it would be the best solution...and what it would cost.

Saw one pass me on the highway tonight.

Hmm...our American "flair" VS Yeah...no. Don't let it be "Americanized" Just get rid of the chrome strip out back and call it a day.

I've seen a few Chargers and Magnums in police guise. I would think that the Charger would replace the Impalas (what reason could you possibly have for an FWD Impala over a RWD Charger with better engine choices and an extra gear in the trans?). I don't see them totally replacing Crown Vic because those things are tanks, and the BOF architecture will take abuse better I would think. I'd expect more V8 Charger to join the highway patrol forces too.

This makes me want to pick up a PS3.

Or even better, a real really car. Wrangler Unlimited would look very at home there.
-
I'd like to do it to our cars...neither one has rust on the underbody yet...but the Prizm is from Kansas... doubt it was rust proofed...the Intrepid may have been...I dunno.

SO they've got the money to merge 2 V6's...but add those extra cylinders and OMGXORZ IT'S TOO COMPLICATED AND EXPESNIVE. -
Well if we wanna get technical about it, plagiarism is an exact copy of something without giving the original material credit. It's similar to be sure, but it's not an exact copy, and I'm reasonably sure credit was given to the original
-
It's not plagiarism if it's their own model they are using. If any other manufacture did something like this, and teh end result was good, I'd like it regardless. Of course if it's like what Porsche does with their SUV...trying to their truck is in it's 2nd generation, when all they did was redo the front fascia...then yeah I'll berate that.

I've heard some people complain about the PT's seats before...they didn't bother me, but it's a good idea to get some seat time to see if it bothers you or not.

Someone mentioned rust proofing...How do you rust proof a car?

Here's my question...supposedly they are wanting to build a Caddy halo car that has 12 cylinders...made by bolting 2 V6's together...how much harder would it be to bolt 2 V8's together? If nothing else, the next STS should be as bold and elegant as the Sixteen... -
I've been up close and personal with a back R/T...I think it looks very sharp in person, but that's me They do look crappy in base form though...at least the bumpers are painted!
