May 2011 Sales - American Suzuki
Intrepidation replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in 2011 Sales Archive
Those are some piss poor numbers. Th Aveo outsold the entire brand this month, and its YTD sales are more than the entire Suzuki brand's YTD sales. -
First big project of the year. So as you may recall my driver's door has been dented since the car was hit a few years ago. I've had a spare door kicking around for a while, but while the door itself is in pretty good shape, it had some pretty nasty scratches along the bottom. Well yesterday, before the storms hit, a friend of mine (who used to work in the detailing business) and I worked on touching it up with a special tool he has that allows greater control of the paint flow than the standard bottle of touch up paint. Today, I put the door on, which was a bit of a PITA. However, the results are well worth it. No more unsightly dent! Sure paint hue is off by a bit, but its only noticeable in photos, and I'm ok with that until I can have the whole car painted..someday. Said door before touch up. Here you can see the dent pretty clearly in this older photo. Panel, lock cylinder, and wiring harness comes off old door. Old door comes off. New door goes on (PITA lining it up), with the wrecked door panel it came with. All done! Cleaned up a bit. My door trims line up now! Next up: the Evaporator Core. Not looking forward to that at all.

Name: Dodge Intrepid (2000) Date Added: 15 November 2009 - 04:24 PM Owner: Dodgefan Short Description: I bought this car November 22, 2006. From the moment I came across it, stepped inside and test drove it, I knew this would be my car. It's my very first car purchase as well as being the first car to be solely in my name. Since I bought it, it has taken me on many adventures, including halfway across the country. Over the past year or so I have done many modifications and upgrades to it, the biggest one being the upgrade from the 2.7 to the 3.5 HO V6. View Vehicle

I replaced my driver's door.

I'm fine, thanks. There were two confirmed tornados that moved through Springfield, which is an hour or so south of me. One moved through mid afternoon and the second moved through around 7pm. I've heard that one touched down 40 minutes north of where I live, and the second storm that passed over this evening did have a tornado warning associated with it. I did see some rotation. Don't know if it ever spawned a tornado though. Wild weather to be sure. The first tornado to move through Springfield was very unusual because it was long lived. Most tornados (of which we only get 2-3 yearly) are short lived. They say it may have been and EF2 or possibly even EF3.

Yeah you know you've hit rock bottom on the scale of human decency when the KKK thinks you're going too far.

which means.... it will last.... longer? Last longer as in longer service intervals between oil changes? No, unless specifically formulated. Last longer as in more durable for its life and offering superior lubrication? Yes, but that's not really "lasting long", that just means its superior. Well there's always the 50% recycled oil products for people who are cheap, so there you go.
-
Actually it's not longevity. Synthetic, unless specifically stated, such as Mobil 1 Extended Performance, isn't designed to last longer. What it does is have far superior lubrication properties, and will not brake done the way conventional oil does under high heat. It also doesn't have organic impurities that organic conventional oil does. And to dispel a few myths before they creep up: You can switch to synthetic any time, and you can go back and forth. It will not harm your engine. Engines which require synthetic are engine which have extremely high tolerance and require the superior protection and lubrication. You're only doing your engine a favor by making the switch to synthetic. It's worth noting that having a high quality filter such as PureOne or a Champion Labs filter (Bosch Distance Plus, K&N, and Mobil 1) is just as important.
-
I tried it. Definitely better than conventional but I personally don't think it's superior to Mobil 1. Paying $1-$20 more when its on sale vs M1 just isn't worth it, since I haven't seen any concrete data about its performance vs other synthetics.

You don't have to go so far. Friend of mine bought a Corsa exhaust for his 3.6 Camaro, loved the sound but not the drone, so he bought some Damplifier and added it to the trunk under the carpet. It's much quieter now. You could go a litter further than that and add it under your floor carpet too and I bet the whole car would be much quiter. What Dudley did probably made his car into a vault.
-
As far as droning goes you could install sound deadening material, I'm sure a product of the 80's has about as much of that as a motorcycle. I'n fact, if you want to make it really quiet, there's a lovely tutorial over at LHF how to do it. http://www.lhforums.net/forums/showthread.php?t=966 As far as quieter mufflers go, Dynomax makes the quietest ones that I know of.

I would think "next up" would be a new starter.

Automakers Ask White House To Reject 62 MPG Standard
Intrepidation replied to William Maley's topic in Industry News
Fuel economy will go up as technology and efficiency improves and, most of all, as the market demands. Lawmakers can stop wasting our tax dollars debating it and let the companies build what the people want. -

I have an idea. -
Nothing special, but I like them just the same, especially grilled with lemon pepper. Haddock Cod Tuna Haven't tried salmon yet. Have tried swordfish...tasted too "fishy" for me.

Good call, though that actually was a pretty nice Xover!! I easily could have been happy with one... It was a good crossover with a really nice interior, but the exterior killed it, and when they redid the exterior, they made it from polarizing/ugly to bland. I think by then the damage had been done and a bland car doesn't make up for an ugly car.

First Pre-Worn New Guitars, Now Pre-Worn New Cars ...?

See doing a good job and doing it on a car that looks like its from an different era is different than doing on a brand new car that's only been on sale since 2010. -

First Pre-Worn New Guitars, Now Pre-Worn New Cars ...?
Intrepidation replied to Blake Noble's topic in The Lounge
I don't really get the extended comparison to guitars, I mean pants come pre-orn too but anyway. Looks utterly stupid. Your brain must not be functioning correctly to do this. Besides looking awful, the Camaro is only a few years old, Nice cars don't become rusty beaters in a few years. And if you're going to "vustom fade" your car, at least do a decent job.
