I forgot about parts, its worth a grand then, although I bet you could haggle down a bit. Thing that I noticed was what looks like the rocker panel or something on driver's side is hanging down. Of course with enough money anything can be restored.

Maybe a couple hundred. I can't believe its been sitting in a street for 10 years.

That was me,it needs to and will be redone, but its not a priority.

The second part of this big project is finally done. Had a few hours this morning before work to replace the compressor, drier, and expansion valve. New and old side by side. Clutch is gone on the old one. Annoyingly, even though this is a brand new, OEM compressor, the valve bodies are different, and I had to reuse the old one. Considering how much this was and was made by Denso, it really should have come with a new one, not instructions how to swap your old one. Oh well... And here's everything hooked up... So now I need to put the engine bay back together, finish putting the interior back together, and put a belt on teh compressor, and it'll be time for the big test...

I am so tired. It's not done yet, but the upper half of the dash is back in and rewired. I'm hoping to wrap things up tomorrow before work. I have to replace the compressor and drier, then put everything back together. Here's the evaporator cores. Guess which is the old one? Here's the heater cores. Guess which is the old one? If you guessed the one on the right, you'd be wrong. That ugly piece of crap is the new one. I'm going to stick with the one I've got and return this shoddy looking thing.

A weekend delayed, but regardless, the "fun" has begun. I've gotten the dash out. Took about 3 hours. I need to get the HVAC module out, and then I can crack the egg and see what that evaporator looks like. I'm very tempted to replace the heater core while I'm there, and as such, I've got one on order for tomorrow. I took craploads but they're for reference so I can refer to them when reassembly begins. There's only one that needs to be posted for now:

What the Hell I’ve Been Up to For the Last Two and a Half Weeks

That's great that you managed to get into college, hopefully it pans out for you dude. I'm sure the Astra will be a good car for you. It'll be economical yet it isn't a soulless box. -
They haven't exactly been glowing for the Malibu Eco. Most of them criticize its high price its high unimpressive fuel economy. The XTS has been getting lukewarm reviews that I've seen so far.

That poor 300M I don't even. ANYWAY

I've probably met the most interesting person I'm going to meet while working at a parts store. Yesterday a gentleman came in to pick up an Optima battery he had ordered. He brought the core with him, a battery sold by us 6 years ago. Generally, a battery that old is not the prettiest thing. They range from dirty to downright scary. This one wasn't though, it looked practically new. I happened to comment on it and he told me its because it came out of a DeLorean. I like DMC 12s, so I asked him a bit about it. As it turns out, Patrick Shea and his father own not one, but three of them. One of them is a restored DeLorean, another was restored and converted into an accurate first movie replica, and the third is one of the actual cars used in the third movie. It's pretty awesome to meet a guy who not only collects DeLoreans but owns an actual movie car. He told me how he had one of cars (maybe all three, I haven't read everything on the websites yet) shipped to DMC where it was frame off restored and has a Stage 2 engine installed (which makes nearly 200 horsepower!). Great guy, his family takes the cars to various shows and events. He may bring one of them to the store someday. That's be pretty awesome. He also gave me the links to the car's websites, which if you're a really big fan of either DeLoreans or Back to the Future or both, you'll love. The first one is a general site which focuses more on replica and news and events. http://88mphtimemachine.com/ The second site is focused on the story and restoration of the car from the third movie: http://bttf3delorean.com/ Enjoy!

Glad you're enjoying it! My compressor came in today. Denso OEM replacement. I didn't want to cheap out on some Chinese remanufactured piece of junk (although to be fair the Tough One new compressor in the Mercury has been good so far, but still). I've now got the Compressor, Evaporator Core (the most time consuming part of this project), the expansion valve, and the drier. I may replace the low pressure line, depending on the condition where it rests on the frame rail. If it looks good I'll leave it. If the weather holds out I'd like to at least get started this weekend.

I'll look into them when the time comes, thanks for the recommendation!

Thanks LA! More work to come, as I'm getting ready to redo the air conditioning system. I've got the expansion vale, drier, and evaporator core (the most time consuming part of this job) and a Denso compressor on order. All I need to get started is decent weather and some time. Then I plan to get rear struts, sway bar links and bushings all the way around, and finally a new set of tires. I'm thinking Eagle GTs like what Devan has for his Vision. Lots of fun in store!

Not bad besides the interior, which isn't great but could be worse. -
Glad to know he is at least ok. Perhaps someone near him has extra storage in their driveway?
