It all depends on which warehouse its located in, or if its and FDO. If demand is low it could be in a master warehouse halfway across the country, which would take days to get shipped. People need to understand that parts aren't always located the next town over.

You'll find that a lot of parts seem to be arbitrarily changed when you would think the would be the same. As for the 307, there were many cars built after 1992, stores will prioritize their inventory for what's most common. I can't remember the last time someone came in with a 307, or a Toronado. Now a 90's C/K series with a 305 on the other hand...

Its like when people come in looking for parts for a 350 but give you a funny look when you want the year. Believe it or not the 350 went through some changes between 1967 and 2003.

I'd be better off in a "hillbilly" town, they do things for themselves. Around here, people just go to the dealer for service, or buy a new car. Lots of money and "professionals" around here, but not much willingness to DIY anything. And most couldn't if they were willing. By "do things for themselves", you of course mean 7/10 people Jerry-rigging the repairs, using the cheapest, lowest quality parts possible, with 1-2/10 not having a clue what they are doing. When they think its ok to replace steel brake line with rubber fuel hose, well you they the Darwin award and I fear for my car's safety sharing the road with morons like them. The Napa closed because of profitability issues for one reason or another, that's what it boiled down to. I like Napa because that's the only place that carries Zerex G-05 antiftreeze, and their premium rotors are painted on the areas that would normally rust. Closest one to me is 30-40 minutes away.

You can get all 3 tested at a parts store like Advance, in or out of the car. If you yank the starter you might as well have it tested to make sure its the starter, since you'll want to bring it with you anyway to not get a core charge (even new ones have core charges).

You'd have to go older than the 80's to find a car that doesn't have some sort of computerized equipment. ECUs could be found in the 80s. Also things like power windows aren't really complex, and you really aren't that much less likely to have an issue with manual VS power. For example, At one point 3 of the Grand Marquis wIndows didn't work, but in all 3 cases the cause was a broken regulator cable, not the motor. The Prizm, which has manual windows, had a regulator cable snap on the driver's side. The Intrepid has yet to have any problem with its windows. A CD player/changer could stop working, but so could a cassette player or the entire radio itself. Plus, even without electronic do-dads a car is a very complicated machine. Newer cars are much more reliable and better built than old cars ever were. Today's cars can make it to 100,000 miles without nothing but routine maintenance, whereas in days of yore you were lucky if you got that far. You owned a few cars from the 80's remember, I'm sure you can attest to their stellar reliability. Have you gotten quotes on replacing the crankshaft sensor? I would start there. It shouldn't be that expensive to replace if you aren't comfortable doing it yourself.

Until it doesn't. When Apple launched iOS6 it booted Google Maps from the OS and replaced it with Apple's Homegrown Maps app, which is pretty terrible. How bad you ask? Map detail google iOs 5 vs iMaps iOs 6: To name a few. There's an entire tumblr site dedicated to these glitches. What Apple has done is removed Google Maps and replaced it with something far worse. And there's not an app for that. If it necessarily delays the approval for Google Maps for iOS6 it will be sending a clear message to its customers that it's no longer interesting in providing them with the best possible user experience. Meanwhile, I'll just keep using my Android phone, because it just works (better).

I've never used Yelp, I've got Poynt which seems to work well. Great to be able to look up nearby points of interest, select the one you want to go to, and send it to Google Navigation to get you there. Good luck doing that with a road map. I remember the days of printing out directions, or even using a road maps. Problem with both is that if you make a wrong turn finding your way back and be a pain, or missing a turn because a street sign was either missing or obscured.

I can't imagine using a road map, especially in a city like Boston where you need to constantly check it to make sure you're going the right way if you aren't familiar with the city. And if you want to, say, find a parking garage with the lowest price in the area you want to park, good luck with that. Whereas the phone showed us various garages at various prices, allowing us to pick the one we wanted without spending forever looking for them. Just don't rely on iOS6 Maps or you'll end up in a river looking for a restaurant.

You sound like you're 87 years old Balthy. Back in my day we we didn't have these newfangled cellular phones. We had a rotatory phone. You spun the wheel to deal the phone. When you wanted to call someone while not at home you used a phone booth and put change into a telephone. Sometimes the phone ate your change but we liked it that way. I agree that people need to be a little more patient when responding to CL ads as the seller may, for example, have a job. On the flip side, I wish sellers would actually respond to the interested party. Had a guy with a mower for sale for $15. I emailed him and said I could pick it up. Never got a reply even though I even left a number he could reach me at. It was still for sale several weeks later. Stupid twit. On the subject of smart phones, I love mine. It's been and invaluable tool for selling on CL because I can get instant notification and can therefore reply while on break rather than waiting until I get home 9 hours later to find out someone was interested. It's also been an excellent navigation unit for helping me find items to pick up to sell (and for general use). Also, a phone won't tell you the message you sent has been read or note, the email app works just like the email client at home. You don't know if the person on the other end has read the email you sent them.

Personally I'd go back to that speedy lube place with the bill and a note from your shop about this, since pressure flushing the system (without even investigating the leak), made things worse.

I've found a couple other possibilities. On the slightly higher end are Falken Azenis PT722 A/S tires which seems to also have pretty good reviews. http://simpletire.com/falken-p245-45r18-28222865-tires These are a new tire by Falken, apparently their first Ultra High Performance All-Season tires and seems to have good ratings for grip in wet and dry, and the noise levels seem to be good as well. They may be the ones I get if I don't have enough to spring for the Falkens or Sumitomos by the time I need to get them (beginning of November).

I can't believe the shop just dumped more coolant in without first checking for the cause of the leak. Coolant levels never really change unless their is a leak, and therefore a bigger problem somewhere. And what on Earth was the point of using a pressure flush if its obvious there's a leak somewhere? Its only going to exacerbate the problem. This is why I'm very selective about who works on my car when it isn't me. Upper and lower gaskets would be replaced, since the upper has to come off to access the lower manifold. Its worth noting that the lower manifold gasket is the one that seals the coolant and keeps it from going to the cylinders, the upper is a vacuum seal. Intake manifold gaskets are a common problem with the 3800.
