Detroit Auto Show: 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray: Comments
Intrepidation replied to William Maley's topic in Chevrolet
I think that's what they were going for. It is an iconic shape. Sort of like each time the 911 gets redesigned. Ralph Gilles said they had contemplated with a more revolutionary design but it didn't seem right. Considering how it turned out I think he made a good call.- 49 replies

Detroit Auto Show: 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray: Comments

Disagree, I don't think this "frumpy" or "oddly put together" at all. With that said I do love this new C7, much more than any Corvette so far, and it'll be priced a lot lower.- 49 replies

Detroit Auto Show: 2014 Jeep Compass and Patriot: Comments
Intrepidation replied to William Maley's topic in Jeep
I'm glad its at least available, several years too late, but at least now there is a transmission option that isn't sh¡t on the list. -
I really like the NSX concept and hope the production car stays true to it, and the interior is quite nice as well.

Can't argue since you did chose on of the prettiest car rear ends, although I don't hate the C7's. I do hope the Z06 or some other higher model ditches the round exhaust tips for a trapezoidal setup. Right now those tips are the only round thing on the entire rear end and look a bit out of place. That's nitpicking though.- 49 replies

Detroit Auto Show: 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee: Comments
Intrepidation replied to William Maley's topic in Jeep
You do realize that the Compass nose was inspired by the current GC nose right? This is an evolution of the current GC's nose. I can't say if I like it better or not than the current nose, although I do quite like the blacked out treatment the SRT8 gets. I like it better than the body color grill surround. The interior looks awesome, really like the new steering wheel and the center stack now looks fully modern. The copper trim looks surprisingly good too.- 4 replies

Who's Responsible For Setting Interior Design Guidelines?
Intrepidation replied to NDL's topic in Chevrolet
Honestly I prefer the two separate stalks as opposed to jamming everything on one. It's all very logical. On the Prizm the left stalk works as so: Turn the end of the stalk to turn on the lights, pull back to flash, push forward for high beams, up and down for turn signals. The right stalk works as so: push it down for delay, normal, fast, and turn it to set the delay speed. On the Intrepid it has one stalk to which controls the wipers, turn signals, and high beams. I dislike that to flash is the same direction as turning the high beams on (pulling toward). I'd rather it be toward to flash, away to turn on. The headlight switch is on the dash, which I also wouldn't care for normally, but being that they are automatic its never an annoyance. The GM stalks like the one on the Colorado are even more annoying because they also cram on the cruise controls. It all depends on what you're used to, but my preference is two separate stalks and cruise controls on the steering wheel. -
Detroit Auto Show: Lincoln MKC Concept: Comments
Intrepidation replied to William Maley's topic in Lincoln
Easily the best looking Lincoln in a long time. Someone finally figured out how to make the split grill work too. It looks very premium and nothing like the Escape. I hope they build it as is. -
I actually liked the previous gen Cube, but the current model, the one we got, looks like a melted down plastic box.

I'm surprised this turd hasn't been mentioned yet. Nothing killed EXCITEMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! quite like this thing.

That's because A.) its different, and I commend them for taking the risk even though I personally don't like it, and B.) is actually a good car. The Juke R is pretty awesome though, I can't believe they got it green-lighted for production.

Funny you say that because the's the top shelf GMC interior compare dto a lower level Ram interior, probably SLT. Ram still looks like the highest quality and best layout, with the largest rotary knobs and easy to use, responsive infotainment system. Also lacks fake wood, which is always nice, and has the nicest gauges. I think in the long run it will age the best aesthetically. As has been noted before, the GMC interior looks like what someone from 2005 thought a 2012 interior would look like. I hate teh expanse empty plastic where those two small knobs are next to the driver's vent. The knobs look randomly placed there too. In some ways I prefer the old uplevel dash, although it does look dated and bland. Kudos to GM though for not going the Ford route and using 14,000 buttons, and instead having some rotary knobs for some of the controls. Rotary knob > button. The Nissan and Toyota dashes are laughable, while the Ford's is busy and looks plasticy in that photo.

Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra Live Reveal
Intrepidation replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Chevrolet
At at glance they look like MCEs, the average person wouldn't be able to tell every panel is new. If you look at the old and new models side by side, then yes you can see they are completely but subtly different. Of course, Ford has been getting away with refreshed front and rear ends for years on its trucks so its probably moot. I can't help but be disappointed though, especially how similar the two trucks still are and how the Silverado's grill looks 1.5x too large. I think if the lower grill was more flush with the headlights I would like it better, and it would look closer to the classic truck front ends if that's what they were going for. I think the question that's been brought up before though, and is very valid, is what are the new trucks bringing to the segment? Better engines, better aerodynamics, and better (quality at least) interiors. But what else? Ram brought coil springs, air suspension, and by extension the best ride quality in the segment, Rambox, 8-speed automatics that paired with a V6 get 25 mpg highway, class leading interiors, intuitive technology. Ford brought class leading capabilities, a turbo V6 that makes more power than the V8s while getting better economy, and is selling very well, the SVT Raptor, and the clever bed step. They're fine trucks to be sure, but besides Cruise Grade Braking they don't seem bring anything new to the table that we haven't seen before.
