The G6 in production form needs to be more aggressive than it is. Even the GTP version is very very tame. Needs more tension and aggression like shown here, in fact change the bumper heights and this would be perfect. G6 standard design is almost jellybean...

There's also the issue of the inevitable earthquake that will drive prices down yet again. They keep referring to it as the "big one". I'm not scared of it, more expecting it, the Southern California area is built on land that basically requires for earthquakes to happen. It'll certainly drive prices down as people move out, but I'm sure pricing will go back to normal shortly after.

Let's see....two Bentley Flying Spur sedans [don't know if they were different color, saw one a couple nights ago and then one yesterday morning?], a few H3s today, Impalas everywhere this weekend [new one], DTS' are everywhere too [seem to be making a statement based on style and big sedan-ness], two beautiful Corvettes today, one striking a pose on Sunset that was the best free marketing a Vette can get, two Lincoln Zephyrs today [nicer in person, but still no Linc to me...and nothing groundbreaking in design either], that's all I can think of for now...

I don't think GM will be giving up on the GTO. It can and probably will take a hiatus of a couple years at max, but it will come back almost without a doubt in my mind. The nameplate is very recognized in the USA, and GM brought it back successfully, the image of this car has been reignited and research will show that this car can be even more successful given the right circumstances. Already, GTO is creating a scene with drifters and the aftermarket. It's one of the only cars keeping Pontiac's image afloat.

I agree with what Croc said, Cali is a very politically homogeneous state. As an aside, glad to see politics on C&G, mods don't kill it! I'll have more to say on this subject when I have the time to read it thoroughly. Until you've been to California, you can't begin to understand the extremes that exist here. As a whole I would say the liberals are just loudest about thier opinions here, but then so is everyone else, and no state proves that adage of "if you complain enough, things will begin to go your way," than Cali does. The recent election proved it yet again.

hmmm....but products liked the T2x were quite promising. I'm not sure GM needs that many small crossovers anyway, but I hope at least one brand sees the T2x become a reality, it would be perfect as a Pontiac or Saturn or Chevy obviously or maybe GMC as a stretch [Chevy already has too much, so it would be better as a Pontiac or Saturn].

Then they should have made some sort of screen standard. It's little details like those that glitter up an interior and help consumer pride in ownership. So when they go to visit the new Escalade in the showroom, that nice big screen helps up the presentation of the interior, and then it gets the warm fuzzy "that interior was nice" comments.

A few different things of note there. GTO would be seperate from all three? He specifically notes it won't share with GTO, as an aside from the Sigma-lite Chevy and Pontiac sedan talk. GTO on VE imported from China anyone? VE imported from China makes a lot of sense, though I know from what guionM has been saying VE will eventually look a lot like our Sigma-lite and become global. also interesting is he doesn't deny the existance of the platform for Chevy and Pontiac sedans, as in Sigma-lite. Finally, this talk about Kappa Plus, and Wilmington getting a lot more product. Intriguing indeed....

I choose to mostly ignore the bankruptcy reports. Sure we could all worry they are going to go bankrupt, and we all do, but I prefer to just sail the boat and see what happens. I still don't think they will file for bankruptcy, just earlier this year we were hearing all the reports about 19billion in cash they were just sitting on, and certainly they've had to pay out a lot and continue to, this will be thier downfall. Don't know if they will or won't file for bankruptcy, if so it will be the stupiddest bankruptcy filing I've ever seen, here we have the largest automaker in the world and nobody inside or outside the company could do anything to help stop the bleeding? Nobody had the foresight to protect this American company. Here on C&G we have been begging for competitive products for years, and here we are today still waiting for those to come out. Why didn't the board react faster? Why didn't they heed the calls of do or die? What is taking so bloody long to get the REAL cars out? Why didn't anyone react to the situation sooner? Why am I reading the Lutz came in and revolutionized everything, and yet many were still hesitant with the product schedule? Why haven't they had one major mass market success in a damn long time? Why aren't cars coming out faster and faster? Why is their product approval process so littered with people who will do everything possible to cut that program out of the air? Why are people in GM so dogmatic in thier non-belief that PRODUCT is KING????? Why can't they understand the issue of product and branding, it's all too similar to every other BRAND STORY out there!? Why don't they see how far Lexus has gotten with GOOD CARS THAT SPEAK THE TALE OF THAT BRAND and COPY????? I feel like I am knocking my head on a wooden baord? I could go on and on forever.....Pretty soon it will be why didn't the government react to this situation?..........

Kappa Plus!! Big time exclamation point for that. I would be all for it, certainly GM NEEDS a small to mid-size RWD architecture, if anything for balance and for more luxury/performance cars. In a perfect world Pontiac would be ten times more aggressive than Mazda is and with performance from a RWD, correctly layed out drivetrain. A pocket rocket with RWD about the size of an Astra would do perfectly, act as Pontiac's competitor to the 1-series and give GM another entrant in the 15-24k market, along with having that perceived image of being exclusive thanks to RWD. This car could then spawn a larger Buick S40 sized Skylark, to compete with those cars.....and a Cadillac that would be 3-series sized, but with Cadillac acctrouments standard. So basically the same cars for all three, but engine configurations and very different tuning and interior/exterior presentations would yield significantly different cars, rather like Ford does with the Euro Focus. I can dream, can't I. Bottom line: GM needs more RWD platforms and a smaller to middle size RWD platform makes so much business sense in so many different ways.

Somebody at autoweek made this change to the headlight design that I think are a major improvement. They do look a lot like the Envoy's and Equinox's headlights, but they are an improvement over what we're getting, imo, even if they don't scream Cadillac or go in a more angular direction. Just represent an improvement over the headlights we got... autoweek

good news, thanks. i'd place bets that they'll be in showrooms right around NAIAS timeframe, or basically as early as GM can sell them and still be '07 models. What better reason would there be to get Red Tag going so early? Incidentally, I saw the first commercial for that today, seriously they are talking about holiday shopping and it ain't even Thanksgiving yet. I think the primary concern is the 900s....

Do your research on the S13, it's an awesome car performance-wise, and I think the weight difference between the two is more than 300 lbs. I just like the S13's style better, but I love the '97 S14 with the Sylvia front end, just beautiful. Think about it, you buy a 240 and it already comes with a name, Sylvia!

Holy pics, Batman! Thanks for those links. Nitpick alert: The rear climate control unit needs more style, as does the center stack up front. Choosing to run it out in the streets already shows just how close this is to coming out. How quickly will the reach the dealers? I'm betting they might begin showing up in late Jan...

not sure what you mean by the raising spline-line, but as for it not being distinctive, well I have a problem with its feminity and lack of distinction. The Land Rover is not like nothing else, well except other Rovers, and clearly is a masculine looking truck. This is softer than the Rover and less distinctive, imo...

some kind of alluminum would be better than the flat black. it's details like these that create an allure to the interior. In black it just cheapens the look and makes it a lot less distinctive.

the pearl color was great, I've always been a fan of it. No interior pics, sorry, I was trying to get out of there, and since it was closed up there was no real reason to take pictures of it. The leather sure looked nice though, and the interior looked even more upscale in person than in pictures. I do remember having the thought that the interior was more like what I would like to see in Buick or GMC or Saturn than in Cadillac though.

STS and SRX are calling, they want thier eyes back AND Caddy: How bout a little more CTS and XLR [and Sixteen] and a LOT less STS! My Design Analysis The '07 Escalade without a doubt is beautiful. It is incredibly classy, elegant, and with an air of snobbery. But there's nothing shocking about it this time around. There's nothing that will make you stare at it for a while. Why are the headlights so round? Why are they shaped like an old Deville? Why don't they continue the lines that run through the fender? I think that might be my biggest problem with this design, and also the lack of much definition in the sides or rear. I saw like a million current Escalades right after seeing the new one, and there's something about that front end that still says aggression, tautness, and elegance in a high tech, imposing fashion. This has lost that "imposing" presence, I feel, I don't know, maybe different colors would make me feel differently about it. But these headlights, well, we are all too familiar with them already. They are exactly the same as the STS. So again, I am flipping my opinion, I went from slightly underwhelmed with the presence of the front end to ecstatic with the overall accomplishment of everything to now again slightly underwhelmed with the presence. There's nothing about it that seems intimidating and I think Cadillac will lose a huge market with the male rap stars. I really don't think it will sell as well as before. It's a tremendous redesign, but the presence of the 2nd gen Escalade, that robotic feel, that large imposing grille, those large imposing headlights that were so unlike anything seen before on an SUV, well that feel just isn't there anymore. They've almost femmed up the 'Slade mate. I don't know, maybe my opinion will change slightly later on. I hate to say this. The side profile shot especially to me shows the melted look, and it is defined, punctuated by those melted headlights. WTH?? Why did it have to go this way, why are they shaped so similarly to the Yukon's? From a side profile I bet the shape of the headlights of the Yukon would look exactly the same. This bothers me. There is no shock in A&S anymore. It might be a serious drawback now. Cadillacs have to be shocking. Shocking and beautiful and balls-in-your-face. They HAVE to be. It's the reason why so many purchased the CTS, because it was shocking and like nothing else!BMW, MB, even Lexus are all setting up for a distinctive fashion about thier cars, now is not the time to water down Caddys! This might hurt them. On the plus side, the interior looked great! :P :CG_all: Pictures below, please feel free to disagree with me or show me where I am wrong.....I really want to love this design, a part of it leaves me cold..... By the way, this is an exclusive :CG_all: :CG_all: Added: After seeing a picture of the SRX, I've noticed the headlights shape is exactly the same and that is possibly why I don't like this Escalade, I wanted and expected something different. Here's a shot of the SRX for comparison, sorry fot the clarity it's my camera phone

  Zombies was the word I was thinking of......looked like they had partied too hard the night before. They looked at me like I didn't deserve to be taking pictures of thier precious Escalade. And didn't even ask me if I had any questions. I was at the white one, and I agree completely with what you've said about it looking like someone forgot it. It was parked in a very trafficky area though, and for some reason Rodeo Dr. just seemed a lot busier than usual on a Saturday afternoon [but I guess I've only been there a couple other times on a Saturday, not my ideal place to be].

Damn, I went and didn't even notice they had the XLR-v. I agree it was handled very poorly; when I went I didn't even notice their were staff around, until I heard one guy asking someone on the streets if they liked the Slade. Their response: "It looks like the Navigator." This coming from a young guy. I'll post my impressions along with the pictures I took of it in a few...

GM kicks off another national incentive program
turbo200 replied to Northstar's topic in General Motors
I think this is very bad news for GM. Of course, some kind of end of year sale had to happen, but did it have to include ALL cars? Isn't the Impala selling well enough not to hurt its image with the lower pricing. Certainly this will push sales of even the stronger cars, but when someone who has done research thinks of buying this in March when there is no Red Tag, they will just wait until the summer when the profit eating incentives are back. Seriously, couldn't GM have at least excluded some of the cars, in small print, and maybe included those on some kind of reduced rebate program? Red Tag buyers would still come in and find a rebate instead, and still purchase the car they want because of the normal value proposition that it is, in this case the Impala. -

Red Tag sale.....excuse me while I barf at this. The name, couldn't get anymore desperate. GM is really showing desperation these days, and, literally, all the equity and resale value of thier cars are gone. There's no worse way they could go. What happened to total value promise? What happened to adjusting to market pricing. That would help resale value much better than the constant price jumps. GM seems to just want to keep factories humming these days and not really worry about profits.
