  1. Here is my justification for wanting the luxury Camaro: You open up a larger market than just the drag racers and mullet heads that the car usually attracts. With the upgraded seats, nav and bluetooth, you open the market to business men who cannot stand yet another day in a 'Fleet style _____". Or to guys who need to be able to justify with the wife a third car for weekend getaways...the car has to be capable AND comfortable - or the wife isn't going to let it stay around too long. You still get the vroom vroom and the screetch screetch - when you WANT in - but you also have a car that you can drive to a business meeting in without looking like a kid just out of college buying his first car. We have to look at the market differently now. It is not 1969 anymore...it will be 2008/9 when this car eventually comes out. Cars are different now. Hell, a Mazda 3 can be had with all of the things I am asking for in the Camaro for less than $23k!! Even Nissan is offering 'keyless go' on compact cars costing less than $15k. The market is different now. Options sell cars, not just horsepower and looks alone. Gas is getting more expensive, insurance, and the payments themselves are going up with each new generation of cars. Now a Camaro might be a person's PRIMARY car - so it needs to be offered with the options that will make it a platform that is POSSIBLE to be lived with every day - and still fun on the weekend. Look at the BMW M3 or M5 as an example of what I am talking about. This same argument has to be made for the next GTO that is expected soon - I think what doomed the 04-06 GTO is the fact that it was a car costing as much or more than it's competitors, and could not be had with a sunroof, heated seats, or Nav. Please GM, learn from the mistakes of the past and show the world what a car CAN be. The Camaro and the next GTO MUST be liveable as a daily driver - not just as a weekend warrior. And Type LT or even RS would be fine with me.
  2. tach without a redline - same for the 07 Camlee that I saw photos of...no mention of that in the article...why o.k. on the camlee, but not on the Buick?
  3. You guys will kill me on this...but...I would like to see the Berlinetta brought back as an option package - the upscale interior was cool, as well as the luxury appointments...make it available on the coupe or convertible and give it the following: Heated seats, NAV, bluetooth, tilt/tele column, and either the high output V6 or the V8 motors as options. no 14-inch gold wheel package though - yuck. I have high hopes that the Camaro does not just look at the Mustang as the target - but rather higher benchmark cars - sure I want the ground pounding Camaro that we all know and love - but lets make it drive like a BMW or Lexus Sporty car should. Give those marques a run for thier money in a car with more power, more room, and a great price...show the world what the US is capable. I seriously want a car that even the Europeans would want to buy. Oh, and I too would like to see the option to buy a 'for off road use only' or a unit that is just street legal enough to get by.
  4. :AH-HA_wink: while watching Autoline Detroit - during a Rag on GM session that is oh so rare for the Automotive press...( let's face it - if Toyota put a badge on an Amish Buggy - it would win Truck of the Year!) Any rate - they were talking about the back rooms of GM and the cars waiting in the wings - and they each raved about the Impala coming out - and asked Why it was not out already - " As they would be able to sell every one that they could build!" I wish I could recall who was on that panel. An engineer I met from GM raved about the car...I personally cannot wait to see it...BUT I WANT IT NOW!!!
  5. When I saw the Enclave in Detroit - my first reaction was " what Lexus? " Then I looked more and fell in love more. Cannot wait to see it production form. As for the ragazines...the days are numbered thanks to the web. We have already seen everything that they are printing a month or more prior. I have cancelled all of my subscriptions...I get my news on the web now. It is easier to delete something on the computer than it is to have to recycle the rags any way.
  6. and by the way - this thread has denegrated to trying to figure out a political/business scandal instead of offering the sympathy to the GM employees that have now lost thier jobs. Buickman: If you are an evil person, or dealing with one...so be it - people leave everyone alone and let's get back to the topic at hand.
  7. GREAT SIMSON'S QUOTE!!! HA HA HA HA HA...That one got me laughing!
  8. Ask Josh.
  9. I like this guy/\/\/\/\/\/\! He's right! Most boring car on the planet...yup.
  10. Toyoguy - Those Gauges are not the units originally discussed in this thread. Please delete your own post...and if you are jacking to gauge faces of a Toyota CamLee...dude, get a life!
  11. I agree with the train wreck...I could not stop reading it either...now - my thoughts on the topic that is supposed to be at hand- the '07 Cam-Lee...( It is Japanese, right? ) I have to say that I have never found these cars engaging enough to even want to drive. I forced myself once to see what all the fuss was about. Did not get it...Still don't. Tinny. Light. BORING. Serious YAWN!!! Same for the Honda Accord we had for 2 months...I could not even bring myself to wash the thing any more - it was THAT boring. Sold that quickly for a used Yukon - But back to the Cam-Lee. The Interior looks like a Japanese car, which is to say - unattractive to this American's taste. The silver backround on the dash/Infotainment/HVAC center is just plain UGLY. This goes for all cars - Lincoln is guilty of this as well - Crome controls look dirty and ugly instantly...but this is my opinion, take it for what it is worth. Not a big fan of GM's ONE PIECE all black units either - although with the chrome trim around the switches in some lt models, it is liveable. The Guage debate - CamLee versus Impala...same fonts used, Same incriments on the speedo and tach, although the Impala has the redline indicated (like it matters in a automatic equiped rental car...) same info given - Gas, Tach, temp Speed on BOTH CARS...the only diff that I see is that Chevy decided to 'highlight' the guages with the plastic trim, and that the gas and temp gauges are easier to read at a glance in the Chevy. Still what is the Big F-ing Deal? IMHO - the new CamLee looks bloated, dumpy and just plain - PLAIN. In any trim level. The front looks like they tacked it on in order to make the hood usable on the Lexus version of the car, with just a new facia attached. Once again, I will say that GM was guilty of this on the now gone Lesabre...hideous design idea. Toyoguy - kudos for supporting your brand. But I gotta say - I don't get what it is you are attracted to - just like you don't get what I see in GM products. Let's just all agree to disagree on this one. I will ask the question, as this post was started about the base LE Camlee...race it with what? It is a four cylinder Toyota!!! - it is not fast - nor wise to drive it as such - as people can be hurt when the plastic wheelcovers do thier impression of a Frisbee at 85 MPH. ( and before you say it - yes, we all know that GM sells cars with plastic wheelcovers...)
  12. I like the way this guy talks! And just to get you all excited - this paralells what I have heard 1000% - look for a 'concept' convertible Camaro next season and then release late in the year.
  13. It may be safe to say that it is the Camaro test platform and the Impala replacement platform testing together...since they were with an Avalanch, but we should also think it could have been the GTO replacement driving around as well. The description of the four door reads like what I was described by a couple of engineers as the Impala replacement - although the vert. tailights would suggest caddy...would somebody please get some photos of these things????
  14. I 'drove' the yellow Z06 at the KC autoshow helping them set up for the show. ( I was bored and the car was there so I HAD to sit in it...when someone asks you to drive a Z06 - what do you do? ) An hour later - The Fbodfather looked at me and laughed - told everyone at the table that I was still hard...yup. And I still am. I want to drive that car so bad on the open road it hurts.
  15. when you consider that a years worth of car shows cost the general close to $50 Million just for the booth space, electricity and carpeting - not the cars folks - just the space for the privilidge of showing the cars! Then they have to sell the cars at a deep discount due to the damage attained by the discerning public ( anyone here ever see somebody pull a piece of plastic trim off of a car at a car show? ) So $2 Million to showcase a product in a movie - not at all that bad. Seems a shame to me to waste a good car on something as stupid as a Tom Cruise movie - let's just hope it was a preproduction car or a Captured Fleet car that was already ready to be disposed of.
  16. my uncle has a 6.0 with the six-speed in the rare aqua-blur color - it runs hard and is quite a blast to drive. I love the truck. Reasons it failed: too heavy - performance lacked. Lack of options for the price range and an unclear purpose in the market place. If it was to be a weekend cruiser for older folks wanting a hot rod with air and a warranty, where was the NAV system to help the happy couple find the antique shops or other interests? What is it for beyond cruising to the burger joint? For the money I could have a Tahoe or a great used Vette. With all of that said - I would still love to have one...and probably will someday.
  17. 1977...Burt Reynolds and Sally Field in a Black on black t-top Firebird Trans Am...I was 6. As soon as the bandit fired up that T/A in Snowman's truck -I was in love! My best friend's mom had a 76 Camaro that we would play 'bandit' and I think I wore my throat raw mimicking the sound of that small block under the hood. I never will forget sitting in a '79 Bandit Edition in the Pontiac showroom in Huntington Beach, CA and touching every inch of that beautiful car...still lust after one...have come close a few times since... Fast Forward to 1984 - my dad picks me up in a brand new Berlinetta - Black over Black ( no t-tops ) and it was love all over again! A year later I had my learner's permit and that Camaro became the first car I ever drove over 20 miles an hour...When I turned 16 I was offered a '67 RS 327 auto Convert...that needed some work to get on the road again...but my parents shot me down, as $1200 was too much for a car that was not running right, and was too shabby to park at their house. So that was passed on...so was a Stage 1 GS Buick with the GSX package in the rare white over black combo in about the same - or better - shape for a whopping $1475. Ended up with a :censored: Honda Accord hatchback POS...but at least I could still drive dad's berlinetta - which by this time had a racecraft suspension, ful IROC ground effects and polished Crager PRO-tech wheels on her. Handled like a go-cart, and the digital interior in those cars was so far ahead of their time it was pathetic...Never drove the car without a compliment... I finally owned my first Camaro in 1991 - when I traded a 1985 Eldorado Bairitz that I had for 13 days for an 85 Berlinetta T-top 5.0 Auto - and they gave me money and the Camaro!!! I loved that Camaro so much - I wish I still had her...
  18. I have been more than aggressive in my Tahoe and I have never heard the tires squeal. maybe the tester has the 17's? Mine has the 20's, handles soooooo good. Go buy one...I mean it. Leave now.
  19. The president does not control the interest rates...the Federal Reserve does that to stem off inflation. Greenspan has been raising rates to combat the rise of inflation. GM does not have 0% out right now as it is a bit crunched right now financially, and with a 'junk' rating on the stock, I doubt a lot of lenders are hopping in to give free money to them. It would be just like you walking into the Caddy dealer after leaving your bankruptcy hearing...you gonna get 0% or 12%?
  20. Because Japanese cars are LIGHTER than the US counterparts...that is why the components do not wear out as fast - less weight to haul around...ever see a Nissan Sentra after a head on collision with a...anything? NOT GOOD. I am not saying the the Cavalier was great, but there was more around you than there is in the Japanese car. This is what makes japanese cars so nimble and quick against the competitors. Simple math: If you gotta put it on a boat to get it here, it had better be light so that we can get a lot on the boat to pay for the trip. boats still gotta float
  21. just give us the kappa Nomad...not a rebadged Solstice...please! Let's go after the mini and the Beetle...but with something new and exciting and RWD!
  22. I spoke with an engineer at the Heritage center who has seen the Impala that is spoken of here...he says it will litterally knock your socks off and blow your mind! It looks like an INTERPRETATION of the 65 Impala - with some of the others Impala's from other generations thrown in...much like the Camaro was an Interpretation with some old styling cues...same for the Impala. Sounds really cool. When he spoke of it, his eyes lit up like he was getting a Red Ryder B.B. gun for Christmas. His actuall expression of his first impression is not fit for publication here...but it sounded like F#*@-ME! THAT THING IS AWESOME!!! As long as the cars all no longer look like a melted bar of soap, I am happy.
  23. Actually, there have been...on the Monaro. I went to the Australian web and looked at the results for the offset and other tests. It did really well if I recall. Go here...and avert ye eyes if you are saddened by the loss of a nice LS1 to the cause of safety... http://www.mynrma.com.au/advertisewithus/m...oldenmonaro.asp
  24. This is great news! Glad to see we are getting safer and better looking cars from GM. I loved the G6 Convertible at the Autoshow. Any words on the HHR test results or when?
