The more I see the silver concept, I want the car in Silverstone Metallic. Saw an Aztec Gold 67 RS this weekend tooling around...wonder what the concept would look like in all of the old colors and paint schemes. Please - no Green interiors! I really want this car - it is an urge that I cannot seem to shake - Please GM, don't make me wait so long! By the way: The Enclave looks big!!!

My hope is that Nissan and Renault say "no Thanks ' and leave - forever. This is a bad bad thing for GM - look at the cars Nissan and Renault offer: Does anyone see what GM would get out of this other than proof that the Cobalt is not as bad as everything those two companies offer? Renault has been unable to even offer a car in the USA for what? 23+ years? And Nissan: Altima and the cars spawned off that platform, and the Maxima, which is not that great of a car from what I am told by the people who mistakenly bought them. Renault and Nissan are both in downward spirals in the respective markets and here...so what would GM gain from a buy-in? I can see NOTHING...enlighten me.

This is the problem with America any more, and frankly I am worried about it. Mr Friedman is entitled to his slanted position just as we are all entitled to our views and opinions of the world we live in. What bothers me is the tone that people have that somehow it is the responsibility of the Government to mandate what is built by whom, or that it is GM's responsibility to build cars that are 'environmentally responsible'. No. It is GM's responsibility to build what it feels is the product that the buying public wants, and to repay it's shareholders a return on thier stock holdings. THAT IS IT! If GM feels that the public will buy a Tahoe over a Prius, then that is the business decision that they make. Companies live and die on the decisions made in a board room table, not by government mandate. Government mandates sometimes interfere with boardroom decisions, but that is the way of life in the US these days. What is bothering me about all of this is that GM does build great cars that do really well on mileage and we never hear about them. There are cars out there that run on 87 octane that do better or equal to the Prius - and yet we hear nothing about them - why? Why is there not a campaign explaining the busses saving more fuel than all of the Prius' combined? And, Mr Friedman: Our dependency on foriegn oil has more to do with Liberals stopping oil production in the US than it has to do with over consumption. We have to import it because people on your side of the fence are more worried about caribou and owls than people dieing in a dessert thousands of miles from home in order to secure the oil we need to feed a thriving economy. And - this is important here - the oil that we use on a daily basis is more for production of goods than it is for the automobile. Plastics, paints, solvents, cosmetics, polymers, the Polyester liesure suit you are wearing - all are oil derivitives. So in your never ending quest to protect the environment, we are slowly mandating ourselves out of business. And when you attack one of the largest employers in the country who is producing a product as an environmental killer, you are attacking our very manufacturing foundation. And then you bitch when GM moves plants to Canada or Mexico or China, and how that hurts the U.S. Worker. And when you complain that GM is building cars that are less efficient than their Japanese counterparts - you are being caught up in the myth and hype of the foreign brands. The Nissan Titan and Armada, both built in the US, gets worse fuel economy than the Silverado and Tahoe of which they compete - yet you pick on the GM cars. Why? Because it is a fasionable bandwagon right now? Do you expose the fact that most of the Jap brands of cars require premium unleaded to achieve the mileage you so tout, while the American brands do as well or BETTER on regular unleaded? And that many of the GM cars are equipped to burn alternative fuels such as E85 while the Japanese cars do not? Your reporting has been examined by the masses, and for those of us with a brain in our heads - it has been exposed as what it is: Rubbish. Now. You go get into your little Jap tin-can and I will get into my Buick wagon - a car that gets near 30 on the highway and weighs as much as an entire Japanese household by the way - and let's go head to head in a 'vehicular debate' - and then we will not have to deal with any more of your libel attacks on GM or the hard working men and women who supply us with the cars we love.

I liked it better in Black! I hated the Red one in the original photo...but the black photo shop one was HOT. It will sell. I take back some of what I said about it on page 2...still looks like a full size humped an Audi with the chrome middle grille.

Yeah, i was confused when I stumbled upon this thread and there was nothing of note in the original post by Josh. How can we quote was is not there? As far as vans: The Astro/ Safari had a 20 year run, as bad as they were because they were different and offered the towing utility that the FWD's could not. The sturdy? body on frame architecture appealed to a lot of buyers, as there were quite a few sold. With that said: GM needs to come to market with SOMETHING - ANYTHING! - that is ground breaking and segment leading. I have to say that I am tired of a company with the power and history that GM posesses always following the competition, never showing THEM what is needed. The first cars that come to mind of recent memory were the Bel Air concept and the Nomad Kappa concept. Think about how many of the little 30+ MPG Nomads GM could be selling right NOW (Pontiac Safari too!) to the people who are out there buying Beetles and Minis...it is sad. And the outcry was great about the Bel Air - what happened? Two years after the Bel Air Concept - we see the Ford '49 concept. What did we get: From GM - A Malibu that is a Meh...and from Ford - The Cadillac Fusion. Is anyone out there paying attention? Mini vans sell in droves...how hard can it be to build one BETTER than the others? It is almost like somebody telling a little kid to do something and they have to drag the little kid along to get them to do it - and when the kid gets to the task, he crosses his arms and holds his breath - 'Not Gonna Do IT!' - GM, you have been holding your breath since 1984...time to take a big breath and blow away the competition for once.

"Wow! That thar is the biggest dern Colofordoraider that I ever did see!" Wheels are too small. Rear wheel opening looks big enough to suit Bigfoot without modification. The rear cab design - hell the whole thing - is nothing more to me than a 'bigger' Colorado - which at last count is not the hottest GM seller right now. Front end looks like a Ford humped an Audi...which is to say the offspring is a bit gangly. Who knows, maybe the ugly duckling can become a swan again with some minor revisions. At least we know where the design team from the Aztec went after that program was shelved. How can they build the GMT-900's one minute then give us this the next???

am I the only one to read that there would be a Pontiac based off the UPCOMING Camaro? Is that not at least the beginning of a green light for the Camaro production?
-
PUT ME DOWN FOR 2, possibly 3 - 2 Z28/SS and 1 6 cylinder convertible.

Thanks, Harry...I appreciate you leaving another for me!

I SAT IN IT!!! And I am STILL HARD!

Where do you live - I would baby it to you...meaning it would still have some tires left on it when it got there. Is anyone seriously trying to buy these cars? I literally met Bill for 5 minutes and looked at a car on his lot, and told him that I would mention them on this board...had no idea that it might actually get them moved for him, even at the substantial loss you guys are offering!
-
No pics, however there was a number in the initial post that you could call for photos...Bill is the guy I spoke with. And yes, it is an Automatic. It was very very very clean. They even store it inside when the weather is not nice enough for it to be outside. I hope he buys it...sad to see such a nice car wasting away on the lot.

O.k., I read the article, more of the same. I loved some of the drawings of what various versions will be...BUT...it is not 1969 any more. I hope that GM is NOT going to build us the new Chevy Rustang...that is the WRONG Target! Don't believe me? Look at the Ford lots...they are backing up. I have posted this elsewhere, but GM needs to look at the market and see where the cars are that are selling. A big motor and a bare bones interior would be fun, but it is NOT what is going to sell 150,000 units a year any more. The car needs to compete with the G35 coupe, 350Z ( not so much, but it is a coupe ), the BMW 3-series coupe, the VW GTI, The Honda Civic SI, and to some extent, the Mustang. All of the cars, aside from the Mustang have upmarket interiors, sophistication, handling AND speed. The Camaro, if it will compete in today's market is going to need to STOMP on the above list of cars and do so for a few grand less then the lowest priced unit in the group (excluding the give-a-way Civic). The new Camaro will need to be screwed together tight like a BMW, handle like it is on rails, and be comfortable while doing it. Yes, I am all for being able to order the car without ANYTHING in it for you hard core guys...go for it...but I really think to lure masses of people into the new car, GM is going to have to show the world that the Camaro of 2008/9 is NOTHING like anything that carried the Camaro badge before. It is not a snap together Revel model any more, but a quality piece that will make you want to shave the mullet and Armorall the tires on the mobile home. Without that, I am afraid the Camaro of the future will be the next GTO failure. I am secure in noting that Holden is building the prototypes...so maybe some of the Euro influence that we saw in the Former GTO will carry over. Even though the market did not embrace the GTO, it was a very well screwed together piece with one of the best interiors that GM has put out in years. Maybe that will carry over? We can only hope.

He shot me a quick price of around $20k for the Goat...if you needed a nice road car and did not care about the LS2 - it was a steal. I would love to have it, but I need another car payment like I need a hole in my head...besides, I want everything to be free and clear when my Camaro is ready

I live in the E-85 capital of the world - Cedar Rapids, Iowa...I have an Ethanol facility right out my window...yet I have to drive 30 minutes to buy E-85 and the ONE PUMP in town selling it is charging a premium for it...turning off consumers all over town...sad. I would buy it if it was cheaper - offsetting the mileage losses...but come on! 3 cents less per gallon than 89 octane with 15% ethanol at any pump in town...big oil needs to be taken off of the pedestal, the farmers need to start growing corn instead of being in subsidized CRP programs, and we need to start drilling for our own oil here in the US and make this country reliant on no one but ourselves!

Was looking at an Equinox in Belle Plaine Iowa today for the wife when I spied a SSR parked up by the building - turns out it is an '04 with less than 60 miles on it! Redline Red over Ebony. GM stuffed it down his throat and he has been stuck with it for a very very long time. I know it is the 5.3 auto - but come on, you can steal it for as close to $30k as you want. It has been stored inside during the winter months and is spotless. Just thought I would throw it out there to the group and see if anyone is interested. Call Bill Grieder at 319-444-2259 or 1800-326-1348 Also has a brand new 04 GTO - same colors...guess they were not hot sellers in a town of 5000 people!

Here is one for you: Brand new, never titled 2004 GTO 5.7 Automatic - sitting in Belle Plaine, Iowa. They have stored this car indoors during the winter months, and it is spotless! Bright red over Black leather - less than or right at 100 miles on it. Looking for something in the low $20's just to get it gone. Belle Plaine is a small town, and I guess they could not find a home for this beauty. If interested, give Bill a call at 319-444-2259. I am not affiliated with the dealership at all. Was there looking at an Equinox for the wife and found this sitting there. Also has an 04 SSR sitting next to it. Also red over black. 60 miles on it. $30k would probably take it home. I just thought I would throw them out there and see if anyone was interested. www.johngriedermotors.com

I drove the Jetta TDI and almost bought 2 - but the premuim price that the dealer wanted over a gas Jetta was not worth it and offset the savings the higher milage would have given me. I also calculated that I would have had to drive the TDI 250,000 miles to offset the costs of ownership versus the gas Jetta. In the end, Bought a Tahoe...The VW dealer pissed me off with his 'last minute recalculations' that jacked up the lease deal on the car...so I walked. The Jetta is a nice, safe, high quality car. I loved it. And there is no way it took 11 seconds to get it to 60...I would not consider a car that slow.

this thing is worse than candy - so sweeeeet! I want! I want! I want! BUILD IT !!!

I drove one this weekend and found it to be a capable and comfortable little truck. My wife likes it and found it to be quite a bit faster than she thought it was going to be. Funny, the biggest complaint that I keep hearing about was the steering - which was just fine for me. Power wise - the 3.4 may be an old tech engine to some of you, but the engine was quiet and it moved out o.k. for a grocery getter. I would like to have the nav system that the '07 will have, but other than that, I saw no reason to wait...plus the deal coming out tomorrow on the Equis will be stellar according to my dealer. The Equi beat out the HHR for my wife's new car. I still wanted her to look at the Torrent - but she hates pontiacs...I don't get her some times.
-
notice that none of them have NAV in them...I have noticed that 99.9% of the units showing up on the lots here ( Tahoe/Denali/Yukon ) have not had NAv in them for a while. The dealer I bought mine from said mine was the last NAV one they have had for a while. Is there a problem getting the nav systems all of a sudden? If you have not driven one of the 900's with NAV - do so - the stereo and other controls and information are 100% better in the nav system than the regular center stack - just the ability to read the songs on XM at a glance make it worth it. The new 'Burb and Ava are beautiful units. They will sell very well.
-
no. It does not. Thanks, though.

Hey now! I take offense to that statement - as there are few more rewarding features that you interact with that are more tactile than the dual-dampened fuel caps...much like Gieco figured out with the caveman references - do a little market research! Now, I'll have the roast duck with the mango salsa. I see your point on the basic transportation module with the plastic paneling that Saturn offered, and that they are going to loose thier identity by going to these upscale models. I think you have to look at it this way: Saturn is betting that you like your car and the Saturn experience so much that you will decide to move up to the new models they are offering you. They are hoping that by adding a more upscale product, they will attract the buyers of Nissan and Toyota to their cars as well as bring you all along for the ride - all in an effort to gain market share.

the Caddy SRX V6 is on her short list as well. I just know how she drives...and the SRX is probably pricey to fix. They are running a lease deal on them though - $329/mo with 1300 down. That is a lot of car for the $$$ - and I do like the size. I bet the $329 would not give me the sunroof or the DVD system - which of course she would want in that class of car (who wouldn't?) After I typed above I looked at the PT again...meh. Too many of them on the road and not much diff (to me) from the original to the 'new one' for me to jump on it. Nice car though. Not bashing it.
-
Thanks all. I will be renting the HHR this weekend to give her a taste of it. Also going to try the Caliber and the PT, as a comparo. The Saab would be a fun choice as well We will keep you posted on the decision.
