That was cool to see the progress of the concept sketches and ideas to the finished prototype. I know that Zeta is a new platform that has to undergo tons of Federalization and what not - but how can it take so long to get this car to market with the resourses at their disposal. Am I hearing right that the Dodge boys will have the Challenger almost a full YEAR before the Camaro debuts? Is this just plain platform engineering where they slap a car on an already tested platform - a la the Ford Thunderbird? Will this help or hinder the final Challenger, and in the long term make the Camaro a better car due to the extensive engineering for it's purpose built chassis? I am interested in hearing your take on this.

This is great. Two great products being sold as one. Love the new price. As far as aftermarket installations, you risk a squeaky dash or wires all over the place with an add on module, plus leaky seals where they push the antenna through. The factory install is great - just wish that GM would figure out that the shark fin would look better at the rear of the vehicle and not over the front window on the driver's side. If Audi, BMW, Mercedes, VW and every other damned manufacturer understands where to put the antenna - why not GM? 'Tis me only gripe...fergive me!

Somebody paid the dealer $10,000 for the rights to the first car they get - that is why the auction was ended. They started another auction right after that - ebay did not pull it. I have to laugh, as I am on the list at my dealer here in Iowa - and it did not cost me a thing. I believe I am second on the list and I get to pick the color and options that I want. I buy for sticker. At that time I will have to put a deposit down, not like this person who is wiring $2000 now and then the balance of the $10k at the time of delivery of the car. If the person is speculating - he is already 10 gs in the hole. How do you make money on that? While I think that the auctioning of a car on Ebay that does not even have a plant to build it in is deplorable, I have to say that it is their right to offer something and for someone else to accept it. I would personally love to see GM loose the cars once this dealer places the orders and to make sure that these cars that are sold two years before they are built show up AFTER the rest of us get our cars.

Aura review: Better than Accord, Camry, Mazda6
toesuf94 replied to Northstar's topic in Heritage Marques
You guys are probably right about the mags and U.S. reviews...I saw my first Auras yesterday and can say that I was very excited about the car. My mom, who is an SUV person of over 20 years now fell in love with the car. Like a moth to a flame she was on that car. Would have taken it home yesterday had the store been open. Midnight Blue over Morrocan Leather...wow! It was stunning! That is when the weird thing happened. A woman in an L200 pulled in and started taking pictures of the three Aura's on the lot. She likes the car, but is UPSET because the do not offer the car with the polymer body panels any more...she actually said: "Well, I guess I will go look at a Camry over at Toyota since these do not have the polymer panels." ? I looked at her, I got mad and then went off on Toyota...do they have the plastic panels? NO! Do you like your Saturn Dealer? "Yes! - Been here 12 years now" so I asked her why she would move to Toyota when she likes her dealer and loved the look of the new car so well...she only said that her daughter in law had one and loved it. In the end, i think I convinced her to stay at Saturn...but if the plastic panels are such a big deal to Saturn owners, is GM going to have a problem??? -
different styles...but no Firebird. Sorry. I have heard the words 'No Firebird!' from far too many sources to think that it is untrue. Pontiac will get the GTO. I suspect that the Convertible will be shown at the 2007 NAIAS and will be the ideal showcase to show the production intent interior. 2007 NAIAS could be interesting...The Camaro, maybe the next Impala on zeta, the GTO? production Enclave, Acadia, et al...SS HHR - GMT-900 production hybrids...did somebody ask what was coming from GM? Todays anouncement proves there is life in GM - and that dreams can become reality.
-
Awesome! Left me with more questions than answers...where will it be built ( Oshawa in cement yet??? ) Convertible? I am just happy it is finally getting the green light...I am confident that GM will not srew this one up!

hey - in your tag photo, which one is the gun-ship? I have the Roady version of your car - love it.

http://lvb.net/item/2805 Take a look at the new ad for the SMART for-four - The copy reads: German Engineering Swiss Innovation American Nothing... Is that not a slap in the face of all of America? At the very least at our automobile industry? How can a company with roots deep in America o.k. such an ad for the world's consumption. Makes me mad, as I really like the Smart Cars in Europe and would love to have one here - or at least would have. Now I wouldn't take one if given to me. Screw DCX and all of their products. Here's what I think of the ad and the corporation to Dr. Z and his f-ing mustache.

Choppin' Competition #24 (N.A. Zeta) Results!
toesuf94 replied to Flybrian's topic in Choppin' Competitions
Oh I am in LOVE with the Electra...love the dip in the rear doors at the top and the detailing used...wow! The rebirth of the Electra or Roadmaster name on that car would be awesome! Electra 225 could be a long wheelbase version to compete with the likes of the 750li and the s-class mercs... how cool would that be? Oh the posibilities... -
I realize that thinking that people would cross-shop a BMW 3-er to a Z28 is a far fetched example, and we are not going apple to apple here - what I am hoping for is that there is an attempt to build the new Camaro into a stylish car that can also be practical...a rear seat that is more user freindly than the second and third gens were. The word ERGONOMICS being introduced to the Camaro lexicon in the place of the word mullet. A car that is practical and comfortable for a cross country drive or a 1/4 mile jaunt. A car that has the driving characteristics of the benchmark cars (3-er coupe) without the expensive upkeep and the balls to back up the looks. The option of NAV, Bluetooth, Homelink. A/C, and the bells and whistles that some people want while others say; "Nah, just give me a big block, 6 speed and a 12-bolt posi..." I don't think this is too much to ask in todays market. Global car? NO. But good enough to make the people who cannot have one wish they could. My Tahoe is the step in the right direction (already talked two BMW X5 buyers into Tahoes - thank you very much!) I have seen and shown the GM light - so I know they can do it.

Actually, from what the engineer was telling me ( he drives cars for GM all day long - punishing them - then taking home one of the comparison cars from the fleet - maybe a 7-series today, a Lexus Hybrid (yucky ) or some other 'high-line' car before it is disected by engineering to see if things can be leared from it's construction. We were discussing his "job" and he was more than happy to share that the powertrains that we have today - as good as the LS series engines are now - ARE NOTHING compared to what we will see down the road. Efficiency is up, power is up - and he never said words like Turbo or power adder...so I am excited. This guy is a car guy - and he positively GLEAMED when he spoke of the skunkworks ( He also saw the next possible Impala and was MORE than enthusiastic...his exclamation about that car was something you would say to a supermodel if you were daring!!! :AH-HA_wink: Sarts with an F and ends with a me!) The future is bright at GM. I think we may have a problem though - we may want more than one of everything!
-
like I had said when I started on about the high-horse V6 spoken to me by the engineer I met at the Heritage Center he definately spoke of a new engine. How this erupted into bitching about the old V6's and the W-body (thread hijack?) is beyond me. I have never liked FWD cars. Cannot give me one. (Although the HHR has me thinking) This is why most of us here are EXCITED about the Camaro coming out. It is a sight that the heads are out of the asses at GM, or those with them still lodged up there are dying off or suffocating from the afliction. Good riddance to a bad design if you ask me. There is a reason why 100% of the uber-performance cars are RWD or AWD...it is the balance and excitement the formula delivers. RWD is my choice when the car is well balanced and well powered to give me understeer or oversteer with a tap of my foot. Never had that thrill in a FWD car. Ever. So, that is why I am excited for the return of the RWD cars from GM. I am living with hope above hope that they are so good they make the other automakers weep with dread of what they have to come up with to compete.

I am getting damned tired of this: The Camaro will get as good or better mileage than the current Corvette. There will surely be a DOD system to deactivate cylinders when not needed, and if they are anything like the current LS2 - they should get anywhere from 26-32 MPG on the highway. Keep your foot out of a vette and you will ALWAYS see mid to high 20's in mixed driving. Stop this misinformation before it starts! If you get enough Toyota ecoweenies bitching about GM bringing out another GAS HOG then the press will be all over GM to NOT bring us back our Camaro. Get the word out on how efficient your LS1 is, or your 3800 - or your LS2 Vette...get THE TRUTH into people's heads that these cars can perform well on the street and at the pumps.
-
I realize that the Camaro is not SUPPOSED to be in the same price range, but when you can choose between a hard loaded Camaro or a decent BMW 330i or G35...the decision gets a little fuzzy. When you throw in the ricers at $12-22k there is a lot to be concerned with. It can become hazy. The GT500 Mustang is $42k - that is BMW 5 series/Corvette/Used M3 category...you cannot tell me that a Z28 SS ZL1 is not going to be pushing that envelope...and that is serious money...I just want GM to give us a Camaro that Motor Trend is not bitching about sub-par levels of plastic or some trim falling off. It will have to compete on a 'Global' scale for the buyers in this market. I want people to get into it, not knowing what it is, and say "Holy $hit! This is a Chevrolet Camaro? NFW!?" I think aiming at the Mustang is aiming too low and giving the blue oval something to be proud of. And don't get me wrong - I think this is the nicest Mustang to come out on the market since the 60's. Am I asking too much?
-
SADLY they will sell a ton to the eco-Consumer Report-ers...junk.
-
I like it! It should make a neat and satisfying -scrunch- under the tires of my Tahoe...or my lawnboy...you know, whatever I hit it with.
-
there is a used 2002 Z28 Convertible sitting up the road for sale, I should buy it and head North for the announcement. I had heard the rumors of the 300+ horse V6 at the concept debut from a powertrain engineer who was talking about some of the toys they have behind the scenes in testing. Guys: I know you want the Camaro of old...but my hope beyond hope is they are targeting other cars than the Mustang as the benchmark for this car. Cars like the G35 or BMW 330I - it is NOT 1969 anymore - and this is the failure of the Mustang in my opinion - the car has to be as good or better than the Mustang could ever want to be. It has to be on par with the best Import offerings to attract new buyers, and it still has to have enough of the Camaro-ness we all know and love to keep us interested.
-
and in response to the $3.15 gas, I drive my Vette all the time because it DOES get great gas mileage. I cannot think of a reason to NOT by the Camaro if it is even close to the Vette in performance at the pumps. The four/five seats will be instrumental in that decision as well. Add that to the ability to all the frowny faced Mousetang drivers make it even better. If that 300+ horse V6 is as good as rumours say it is...I may even go that route!

A.F.T.! NOW THAT IS NEWS! Now I gotta put my money where my mouth was was I told SS that I will be in line FIRST for a convertible. Guess I had better list the kids on Ebay...or maybe the wife

Ford Motor Considering Sale of Floundering Jaguar
toesuf94 replied to MyerShift's topic in The Lounge
add to the fact that their bread and butter F-150 (and alllight trucks at Ford) are off sales by over 40% over a year ago - and you have a rather gloomy picture of what is going on at Ford. Trimming off Jag which is not selling well against BMW/Lexus/Mercedes and you have the first decent idea to come out of Dearborn this year. Sad really, as they will not re-coup the costs of the new XK if they sell. The new Lincoln offerings are nothing more than tarted up rebadges of Fords, and the public has taken notice. That is why the sales are down across the board at Ford. The product is not striking the right chords with the public. Period. -
Beautiful! Great lines. Cannot wait to see the Impala. Good idea to buy stock in GM - 'cuase mother Hubbard went to the Ford and Chrysler cubbord and found nothing as good as this looks to be.

:twocents: For what it is worth, I liked a couple of the ads, but hate the photo of the idiots (pretty people) sitting in the cars. I have to guess on what the car is - but I can tell you the idiot in the passenger seat is wearing Armani. How does that sell me the CAR? I am 34 years old, we have an XLR in our 'fleet' that my dad and I share. I always stop dead in my tracks when I pass it. The car is so good looking, people have taken photos of us in traffic in the damned thing! The CTS, STS, SRX, and DTS are all on my wish list - and would jump on the chance to own any of them ( not so keen on the DTS due to FWD, but the rest of the line is drop dead georgeous. Why are these ad companies trying to sell the image that they THINK the car needs to convey instead of actually selling the CAR? When I see an ad like this all I think is: "well, the car must not have anything to offer driving wise, as they aren't showing me anyone driving it!" The XLR add with Zepplin playing when the woman drives through the simulated water and she is laughing with glee at the exilerating drive - now THAT was a car ad that said - this is a car that is so good you will be laughing with glee each time that you drive it. I can tell you that I relish the day my dad called me to say he was driving his next new car - when he stepped on it on the on ramp - dropped the cell phone and could only screem "Holy Jesus this thing is FAST!" and showed up to my place looking like a 7 year old with the shiniest Hotwheels car he has ever seen ( and he looks like that 8 months later every day he shows up in the thing! ) - that to me showed what the XLR conveys - driving fun. These ads, other than the 60 second spot about 'start dreaming again' do nothing for me that wants me to get into ANY car. Made me want to not shave and put on a nice suit and sit in a car - whose car? I guess it said Cadillac in the ad, so I guess it was some Caddy they make. Yawn. The guys in the car look like they are waiting at a drive thru or something. - Blah.
-
yeah, what gives with the Mullet car moniker? I had two third gens and never had hair longer than an inch - and they were the most fun, most reliable and one of the better cars that I had up until my 2004 Corvette - and I still lust after a teal 1992 Z28 Convertible...it is one of my top ten must haves. And I agree, the iron duke 4 banger was a dreadful period in the Camaro history - but you never felt bad yanking one and dropping in a 350!!!
-
Umm, can you say "Move our country forward." anymore without breaching some Toyota ad campaign.Actually, I am glad to see GM striking while the iron is hot. Toyota is killing itself with poor quality and ugly cars as of late. (I actually like the Xc so Sciguy can bite me for attacking 'his brand', o.k.?) It is high time the world learned the truth about GM's cars and the technology they have put onto the road. All of these Consumer Reports shoppers need to read the fine print and see that they are buying a huge load of bull . Ask my brother about his $42k Sienna...at least it is shaped like the lemon it is. Toyota has done a great job at marketing itself as a quality brand, and let's face it, they have built some well running little cars, but as they continue to grow - they continue to falter. More importantly, I hope that GM's attack actually highlights that while the cars are ASSEMBLED HERE to avoid paying IMPORT DUTIES and Tarrifs to the U.S. Economy, they are also not paying the workers what the Big Three have to to make cars. That is what really needs to get out to the consumers. I bet these people who bitch about Japan owning so much of the United States all drive the Jap Cars that gave the Japanese the money to BUY EVERYTHING here in the first place.
