I love this ad and hope that this is exactly the direction the advertising at GM is going! PERFECT. SIMPLE. STATEMENT HAS BEEN MADE PERFECTLY!

Drove a new Camry yesterday with 2551 miles on it - what a surprise!
toesuf94 replied to toesuf94's topic in The Lounge
I know why they still sell though: $199/ month is now being offered here. That is a lot of car for Kia money. It is pretty frontloaded, like $1900 down - but they will sell a bunch. Let the sludging begin! -
I still physically point and laugh at anyone in the Tundra! It is ugly as sin to me, has a horrible interior, and it is a pig at the pump. Good luck with the rebates...at the mileage this thing gets, what does that work out to, three months of fuel? And if I see that stupid ad with the 8800 pound towing capacity drag race again, I am going to puke! Speaking of that ad, and the millions of times that you have seen it, do you still watch it in hopes of seeing the cam shaft parts dimpling the hood when the motor blows apart? It is the only thing that keeps me from changing the channel! Toyota Spew Max... ...Spewving Forward!

A friend came over yesterday and threw me the keys to his new 2007 Camry XE Sport...Leather, Satelite radio, sunroof, alloys. What the hell, I hate them, but let me see what all the fuss is about! So I took it for a short drive. Here are my findings: 1: Quiet ride, firm suspension and controls. Leather on the steering wheel felt cheap and actually was scratchy on my hands. Hate the silver dash treatment - until you turn on the headlights...then the blue/green ambient lighting on the stereo and other control surfaces is really kinda cool. 2: What is all of the talk about Toyota switch feel all about? Am I missing something? The turnsignal stalk operated with a "Thwap - Tick - Tick Tick - Thwap!)...My Tahoe's controls are queiter and more soft touch. The window switches and sunroof operated smoothly, albiet, I did not get the "OOOH! DO IT AGAIN" feeling I get in say a BMW or my Tahoe. 3: The dashboard parts don't fit together all that well, and that is usually not a big issue on a black interior car - this dash had the fit and finish of an '88 Cutlass Cierra...which is to say, BAD!! Nothing really fit together well, lines intersect and then abrupty skew...and the parts next to the stereo down to the cupholders were way out of line with the rest of the dash. Ergonomics were good, as everything was where it should be. However, I did notice the big binnicle in front of the cupholders was unable to close when something was in it that had a power cord, so if you had your phone plugged into a charger, but wanted to hide it in said binnicle, you would have to unplug everything and then put it in the enclosure. Not all that convienient. And the heated seat switches were an afterthought...ahead of the shifter just in front of the binnicle door. Yeah, first place that I would look. 4: Rattles. There were three distinct rattles: The sunroof cables, The rear seat, and something up in the back of the headliner that I could not put my finger on. This is the Toyota quality I have been hearing about? I was stunned. My brother's old Camry that had over 100,000 miles on it was quieter than this new one. Quality moving forward??? I don't think so. 5: Acceleration was decent and the V6 was smooth and the transmission was as transparent as we have been told it is. It did work in all forward gears and Reverse...so at least that was better than expected. Did not check for sludge. Let him worry about that. All in all, I would give it a "Blah" rating. Not all that impressed with the car. I still hate the way it looks, although the black one I drove was prettier than the Green Split Pea metallic ones I have seen on the road. Seating position was comfy, and there were not any blind spots are any real concerns...merely an appliance to get you to work and back. Nothing that made me say - Wow...except the rattles in such a new car.

Man, I would still love to have the GTO...if it had a sunroof and heated seats and Nav...all stuff I want in my personal luxury coupe...I may look the other way when my Camaro comes in...but I think at the price point the GTO was at, those should have been included. I still think it was a righteous car after 2005! As for the Chrysler heavy discounts - we had the same deal on our Commander. Nice truck - horrible mileage. I hope this helps them dig out of the hole they are in.

I have spoken to 1 Acadia owner and a pair of Outlook owners - all of which raved about the cars by the way - all three of them were averaging 21-22 in mixed driving, which I think is stellar for something so big! I can see why the trade with the dealer fell through though - these are an extremely hot ticket right now. In Cedar Rapids, people are FOLLOWING the transports onto the lots to get the Acadia. The Outlook is right there three abreast and everyone is fighting over the Acadias. Go figure. The average lot time on the Acadia around here seems to be 3 days tops. On another note - the Enclaves are not moving - I think interest is building...but I still see the same three on the lot where the Acadia is flying out the doors...hmm

Clarkson hates U.S. Cars...fine. I am not going to cry over the loss of one or two PA's at his hands. But I will take this opportunity to mock him back. 1: American's eat because we actually have food that tastes good. Notice the lack of "British" or "English Isle" restaurants. 2: British car companies are owned by the U.S. and China now. Does Britain even produce anything any more? 3: The Full Monty We can make a whole slew of bad cars to make up for that cinematic wonder. I do love the show though. And the Beer from England is pretty damned good as well. Besides...there is not a person on this site who would not do what the machine operator did in a heartbeat. You cannot say it did not look like fun!! I would do it!

Here is my take on this: The Malibu's interior design alone grabs at me to drive it, from the photos I have seen, I want to be inside the car - I am drawn to it. There is an inherent desire to experience the car. The taught lines, the face - the prominent bowtie...all of this draws me to it. The LS, and I would venture to say 99% of the Japanese offerings on the road or at your local dealership do not even garner me a second look. There is no soul. There is no passion in the design. Neat features - sure - but nothing that reaches out and grabs me to pull me into the dealerships. Sure, it has the Hoffmeister Kink at the back window...but a kink does not a BMW make. In an earlier post, the Jaguar was brought up - sexy as hell to look at and you just want to run your hands over those sinuous flanks...and nearly every BMW out there begs you to drive it just because you KNOW that the engine note alone costs 900 engineering hours to get the sound JUST right. The Japanese brands have learned to zerox something pretty good, and the surface is there, but like a recording of a recording of a recording - the soul of the original is lost.

Harley and carbiz are on the right tracks...love both of your ideas.

please use better cam shafts then Toyota did or we will never hear the end of it on this board. I would love to see the mileage figures of that motor in a Tahoe...could get me to go with that combo over the Hybrid Tahoe due this year.

Thanks for clearing up what the issue is. Not as serious as say the steering failing, but a big one just the same!

It's working now...I wonder if they have gone back and installed a sump pump in the vault with the Prowler they burried in '97? -
If you watch the interview she does say that the car was wrapped in three plastic bags, cosmolene, rust preventatives, and other materials to keep it safe. I guess they had enough forsight to think that it might have water in the hole...we shall see Friday Night. My fingers are crossed. Would love to see her in perfect shape!

I guess the Sump Pump was invented in the 1960's?

Car Spotter check: What 'econoboxes' have you been seeing on the road
toesuf94 replied to toesuf94's topic in General Motors
When is the last time you saw a Renault Fuego???? Just a funny memory...I loved the accordian panels that made the car look like it would bounce back when it was rolled over! Anyone spotting one of these on the road should pull over to keep from having an accident from the laughter. What a design. Sold through the Eagle motors division of Jeep back in the '80s. -
Look for a long bed version on a tow truck near you...Gee, how much do you think the longbed version will shake on Ford's proving ground??? Hell the damned thing might FLY!

The words Conspiracy Theory have me shaking my head...This is what is wrong with the F*****G TOYOTA TUNDRA - RIGHT HERE! Because if it were not for some a-hole in his Tundra mocking the mileage of the freshly waxed 87 Monte Carlo, we would not have had FOUR + PAGES of talk of Conspiracies, Gay Rights, Ancient Roman Buggary, Saddam, Iraq...ect...although the upskirt with the blower thought was pretty good...NOPE! I blame the A-HOLE who bought the Toyota in the first place. HE STARTED THIS! YOU HEAR ME BUDDY? I HOPE YOUR F-ING CAMSHAFT SNAPS YOU IMPORT HUMPING, BED SHAKING LIKE A BIKINI MODEL IN ANTARTICA, PIANO BLACK HIGH GLOSS UGLY-ASSED DASHBOARD, POOR GAS MILEAGE GETTING, FOUR STAR RATED, DRIVING PRICK! There. It has been said. We can stop throwing insults and jibes at one another...the original culprit has been told to go to hell! We now return you to your normally scheduled drooling over the latest GM product that we have been promised to get within the next three years.

I am not raving about anything...most of these have not left Dealer's lots or have been taken away from customers. I will rave that even though we do not know the reason behind the recall - they are keeping them out of people's hands, which is a far better response than having Mr. Toyota Spokesman tell the world that a snapping camshaft can be isolated to maybe 20 engines when we all know better. How many Toyota owners still have cars that should have been recalled due to sludge in the engines or steering that does what it wants to. At least GM is being proactive!

BEAUTIFUL...CONGRATS!

How many of the trucks are produced daily? I found a thread on a google search that states it is for trucks produced on specific days in April 17-21 I think.

Car Spotter check: What 'econoboxes' have you been seeing on the road

Ahhh...the Corolla FX...Saw another along those lines yesterday - Nissan Pulsar NX...remember those? And Fly, the Renault Encore was my girlfriend in high schools first car. I had to keep a hammer with me to hit the starter whenever she would call me to get her running for her. The father was too cheap to put a reliable starter in the damned thing...I even offered to do it! -
Those that do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Millions of Jews and Chinese dead in WWII, and it took us how long to remove Saddam who was doing the same thing to his country - Nobody learned from WWII. Now look at Darfur...millions dying/dead and it took this years G8 summit to do something about it. The world has forgotten what it has been taught by previous generations, this is why I shake my head. As for gay rights - I wish you all the luck in the world changing the minds of millions. I am not against gays and wish them all the protections afforded everyone else. Hell, an F-ing illegal alien has more rights in this country than a gay person it would seem - especially if Kennedy/McCain get this bill through= and that is wrong no matter how you slice it. It took years of woman sufferage to gain the right to vote. It will take time for the Gay Rights issue to iron itself out as well. Believe what you want to about the war and the current administration holding gay people down, it is the freedom afforded to you by the sacrifices of many before us that gives us the rights to have beliefs that may be counter to what one another are thinking. As for the lawn mower hating chick, ask her to get on her knees and start chewing the grass in an even manner...then you will get rid of your mower!

You say that and blackviper8891 talks about homosexuals getting the treatment they deserve once Bush leaves office and we leave Iraq...you are not reading the posts nor have you learned from history. Believe what you want about the war - we are fighting people who want to end our lives as we know them. They are in a Jihad against us ( when somebody pin points what we did to the towelies, please appologize so we can stop this bullshi*!) much like Japan was against us in WW2 for not supporting thier attempt to take over China. They attacked us - just like we were attacked on 9/11. So we have taken our fight to them in reprisal in Afgahnistan and Iraq. That is what we are doing there - killing the Taliban and A-Q. Saddam and his boys were killing millions of people and dumping them in pits all over the country - we turn up a mass grave it seems weekly...reminds you a bit of Hitler and his boys, no? We put a stop to it. For those of you who believe that Saddam did not have chemical and biological weapons in his arsonal...please speak with the Kurds who were killed by such weaponry and ask them how they died. Those weapons are now in the hands of Saddam's freinds. We will find them in New York or California before it is all said and done. This is not over when we leave Iraq or the middle east - not by a long shot! The only thing we are doing now that I think is wrong is trying to be surgical in our strikes where blunt force should be used. We use laser guided bombs on a sellect target, terrorists simply blow everything up in a 300 foot radius...collateral damage be damned. We have lost the last two wars that we tried to be surgical and peacekeepers...Viet Nam and Korea...have we not learned from those two mistakes? Nobody is looking at what happened 60 years ago and COMPARING it to the world today. Nobody learned, or those that did and were vigilant are now dead or too old to care! Those that ARE old enough to know better are screaming about the world today and not being heard behind the iPods everyone is wearing. This is why I am shaking my head! That and people who buy Toyotas. Seriously: Has ANYONE EVER heard the following words spoken to ANYONE with a Toyota - new or old; " Wow, Nice car!" OR "What a beautiful car!" Or "Cool car, Dude!" I have never heard it or seen it! EVER. As for the gay rights issues - anything you do is going to be as effective as the three emoticons to the left. Sorry. Personally, I do not have an opinion either way. Just try to be happy and live your life with your beliefs...that is all you can do.

I had totally forgotten the Chirade...when I see an Impulse or LeCar, I know the end is near! -
I want. Ich Mochte! How many ways do you know how to say "I want" ? WOW!!!
