  1. We had a Buick with the clam shell that never ever failed on us in the 7 years we had it. On the flip side of that, we had many a wagon with the two-way tailgates that wore the hinges or had the latches pop off when slammed. Granted, we were in California when we had the Clamshell - I loved that car. I think it may be the first car I fell in love with. Yellow with tan interior and a painted roof insert that was silver...
  2. Oh, no thunder stollen...I LOVE the Old's Fiesta Wagons...even rarer than the Buick! I wish mine were a Caballero, but being a "Special with a B-pillar" makes mine even rarer. There is one in Chicago for sale, done...less options than mine and non-matching numbers and the guy is asking $47,000!!! I will keep her going for posterity...and will update the photos as the restoration goes on.
  3. Here ya go! White with the shipping crate still on it! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chrysler-To...1QQcmdZViewItem This would be a great car to put a 6 pack on and scare some Mustangs with..
  4. We had the ONLY Buick wagon on the grounds. There were a ton of 58 Chevy's, 57 Ford Ranch Wagons, 55-57 Nomads and Safari's. The only other '57 wagon 4-door, other than a Chevrolet, was an Olds, which was really, really cool. I know about the abuse - mine was a painter's work car for a while in a former time. Years of paint spills have been removed so far. I have loved wagons since my parents 71 Electra Estate Wagon with the steel floor and clamshell rear...used to have drag races in the back area with my brother and some hot wheels...we would put them on the floor hinge for the third seat and wait for the torque of the 455 to launch them to the tailgate. Winner hit first. Many many a mile was spent in the tailgunner's seat waving at people and getting truckers to honk.
  5. I will get some other shots uploaded when they are deemed worthy. She is a long way from where I want her! :AH-HA_wink:
  6. You could be the first to race it!!! How cool is that. And the shots are great! Thanks! I bet they saw what you were in and did not want to risk the loss before the car even gets it's first one sold to the public!
  7. I just received mine after a 4 week wait. They are absolute works of art though. Beautiful to thumb through!
  8. Well, here she is at her first show. Far from done, only a front seat for an interior, which was installed last Friday morning. We bought the car in March and have been working on it since it arrived here in April. New floor pans, spare tire well and a revamp of the fuel system as well as a complete gutting of the interior. We drove her the furthest ever this weekend at the Goodguys show in Des Moines. She shared the grounds with a stunning '53 Skylark, an Auburn, just about every 32 and 40 Ford in Iowa, Nebraska and Missouri...and a whole bunch of other nice cars. The other project car that ended up parked just ahead of us late in the day was a relatively rough but all there 1957 Bonneville Fuel Injected Convertible!!! The FI system was being rebuilt, so it only had a tri-power set-up installed. All the badges were there though!
  9. Yeah, we can use the Ford Flipper /firestone debacle as well. And you are 100% correct about the cars on Wrecked Exotics, just because you can afford such a car does not automatically mean you can drive it! Hell, I have had my 'Vette for three years now and I am still scared of it!! I probably was a bit harsh in my opinion of others mocking the burning Nissan's. Hell, it is good to see, but I just felt it might be a bit harsh when our own home team gave us such goodies as the 2M4 Fiero and the Supercharged fires of recent.
  10. Wow. And we get excited feeding the coons and the possum...a bear would be kinda cool to see...just not standing 25 feet from me in the dark! Thanks for sharing...and way to go getting the girl next door! Every straight man's dream! And with gas at $3.00 a gallon, you had better hang on to her!
  11. I wonder if "4" is Toyota speak for a lot of fires that we are not going to talk about - and I am not going to sit here and say that I like any Japanese car maker's cars, but I think GM has it's shares of fires - Supercharger BBQ anyone? We should understand a bit more that this is a man made machine and it can have it's faults. Hell, go to Wrecked Exotics and check out the Lambo's, Ferrari's and other exotics that burn down almost daily due to sticking breaks, poor heat shields, ect. GM is not perfect - no automaker is - so let's be a bit less scathing with the baby in the microwave photos and just take the news as a knock against the high perch the japanese makers have been placed and get on with life. It is hipocracy like this that makes us look like the Toyota Kool-Aid drinkers...GM is not all roses either. We cannot sit here and blast Nissan for it's fires, and not think about the recent talk about the fires in GM's supercharged cars. If we do that, we drink from the same well as the guy who says his new Tundra will out tow a Ford F450 Super duty...and it will make us look just like him - a big bunch of jackasses.
  12. the 1950 Buick Sedanette is one of my absolute favorite cars in the world, that GRILLE is the best looking made in 1950 by far, IMO. Even though it is a sedan, Buy it. The only cons I can think of are the 6 volt electrics, and the continental kit...takes away from the great rear end of the car. Good luck! Is it an auto or a three speed. The three on the tree can be pricey to rebuild ( the shifter, not the tranny! )
  13. I am seeing more and more Turds on the road here in Cedar Rapids, esp since the rebates started to climb. I did some digging and went to the back lot to see what people are trading. Looks like Fords are being traded in on the Turds around here. Anyone else do any digging into this? And since I was on the lot, I took a look inside...Ugly does not do this truck justice. And only 18 mpg highway??? Are you kidding me?
  14. Gives me hopes in restoring the Earl Sheib job on my 57 wagon...lots of work, but the results were worth it in the end.
  15. Just in case you did not see this previously: BEST EVER!
  16. If the Zeta Camaro doesn't show up soon, I may have to buy one of these!
  17. Classy and one of my favorites. Friend of mine had the 76 with the Fuel injected 500 ci - scariest engine I ever worked on. Ran great when it was working...I just never liked having my face 12" from an engine that sounded like it was going to punch me in the face with something mechanical at any second!!! I should really show you guys my '57 Buick estate wagon!
  18. I am on both sides of the fence here. On one hand we have the new thinkers who brought us the Calliber...and then we have the retro studio who brought us a Xerox of a 1970's Challeger with computer tweaking for the 21st century. When I look at the new stuff, I cringe. When I look at the Challenger, I smile. It is cool, Retromodern. It captures what Dodge was. But I will not buy it. Not at those prices. ( MAYBE in Plum Crazy or Sublime Green if I was a multi-millionaire...) When I look at the Camaro, I instantly see Camaro, not a '69, not an '86, and not an '02 - but a Camaro. Sure the lines resemble a '69, but if you park them side by side, you will be able to see the huge difference between the cars. Plus, the promise of the LS3 and other hot engines that provide power and economy ( something the Hemi or the Ford has NOT been able to do ), The Camaro is the no brainer choice. I am already in line for one.
  19. I too have seen a large amount of rusted Caravans here in Iowa...rust everywhere. Aerostars too, badly. You will be hard pressed to find a single Aerostar here with anything remotely resembling a rocker panel. We had a friend of ours give us a '92 Caravan that actually was so rusty we could not do anything with it...so it ended up becoming some 7 year old farm kids go-kart on the farm. I kid you not.
  20. Today as I sat behind yet another Toyota Highlander Limited 4X4 Automatic V6 at a stop light, it hit me...all of this badging announcing to the world what your car is equiped with really makes me mad! It is unsightly, usually misalligned, and truthfully, what purpose does it serve? Add to it the obligatory dealership logo tag, and it really starts cluttering up the back ends of cars. Am I the only person who hates this? Also, a worst offenders or oddest thing you have ever seen listed on the back of a car as an option list would be fun to read. I really hope that GM cuts down on the badging I have seen in early shots shown here of the G8 GT V8...all of which was proclaimed on the back of the car. Subtle is better. Leave the GM marks of crookedness though, I actually like those on the front doors/sides of the cars.
  21. I am with camino in this one, the G8 GT is supposed to be a full sized sedan, whereas the CTS is aiming right between 3 and 5 series in the size department...so that would put the G8 in the size realm of the BMW 7 series...which is the car I am most comfortable in. I like big cars. The CTS always left me wanting more room in it. If the G8 is indeed a true full-sized car, and could be had with the LS7...I would choose it over the Caddy. (I would be REALLY happy if they brought out a Catalina Wagon version of the G8 with this driveline!) Let's not forget to throw into the mix the NG Impala which will be Zeta based and RWD...and we will have a lot of choices at the GM stores pretty soon!
  22. The exhaust exits in the same place as my '57 Buick...and that is the last thing I find interesting in this trucklet. This is a car that I do not understand, or will I ever find it remotely attractive. The sell in quantity, and I cannot begin to understand why. What is it, the truck that tries to look like a 4 Runner but is built on a Camry but is bigger than a Rav4, but smaller than a Sequoia? What mission is it supposed to fill? And 23 mpg is good, but what can you do with it? Does it still tow? I need to stop reading anything with the word Toyota in it...my blood pressure is already through the roof and I am tired of thier product and the idiots who buy them. Sorry, but is there a help group out there for people like me who are ANGRY at the stupid people who buy these toys and get self-righteous when doing so? Seriously, the next Toyo-bitch that looks at me sideways in my Corvette (that gets better mileage than this Hybrid does by the way!) and gives me that "You are ruining my precious Earth for my kids because you drive a Gas-Guzzling Sports Car" look will get ripped out of thier little battery powered shi* box and taught the meaning of HIGH VOLTAGE COLONIC with thier battery cables. I am sick of the attitude that goes along with the Toyota lifestyle. I wonder if the Highlander will have 6 HYBRID badges on all sides like the little brother Camry's 3? Serously, I am going to the gun range and shoot some target clays before I hurt someone.
  23. I guess gays should get equal rights under the law - the breakups seem to be the same! Sorry to hear you have an ex that has become a stalker...having a really really hard time with the whole 68 year old replacement though - WTF??? Straight or gay, that is just WRONG! Glad to see the C & G forum had the technical know-how to get your door reprogrammed and you secure at home.
  24. wow?
  25. I hate to say it but I saw two new Spew Max Tundra's last night with temp plates on them in a half mile radius...I think the $3500 of is moving them...at least two that I saw last night in a quick trip to the store. Good point though.
