I answered depends...but you know what? It does bother me when I see a perfectly repairable car go to the crusher. A few years back I was walking into a local yard that I frequent and spied a really clean 1983 Z28 that still had the crossfire engine in it, no damage beyond a sagging headliner and it had the delux interior with the ERS sound system in it - rarer still: It was brown and bronze metallic. Ran great. I ran up to the office to inquire about the car. Could only be parted. Turned out it was impounded after a police chase. A week later I stood next to it and it was only 6 " tall. Crushed, motor and all. I did my duty and saved a car from a yard four years ago. I bought a '92 Buick estate wagon out of a 'crush pile' that was still sitting on four good tires and ran like a clock when I kicked the key over...turns out the torque converter was out of it...so they sold it to the yard for scrap and walked home. I drove it home...dropped a rebuilt tranny in it and it NEVER left me on the side of the road in 3 years of driving. Bonus: The motor was a crate motor with low miles on it and it was a 350! Car was sold to a body shop that customized it into a show car. That was one out of the 12,000,000 cars that was crushed that year that I saved. Yay me.

In other news, Toyota Motor Corp has signed up to be the official sponsor of the 2010 US Olympic team...

Yeah I try to miss them so that my Portholes don't fall off of the Aveo's rear bumper...

At school you will have to worry about the T/A getting vandalized...that is a garage type car. Plus winter driving? I am 1000% for you getting the T/A and ridding your mojo of the Focus...but practicality might be more important here. And my Corvette automatic is returning high 20's in mixed driving, so the 6M should do better than that.

And the funny thing is, I am the opposite! This may be the first Pontiac to get me into the showroom since the '92 Turbo Trans Am! This car is absolutely beautiful! And finally - something I have waited for since 1996 - a RWD sedan with room in it other than the CTS. THANK GOD!!!
-
Since you are the first at C & G, you WILL be setting up a time where we ALL can get together to flog your car to decide if it is worthy of our admiration, right? :AH-HA_wink: Lucky! Enjoy the car. It will be beautiful!

Really cool! Want to see more! That would make a great commuter car! Do you have the rest of the info on the show that originally broadcasted that?

With $7000 on the hood (even the $3500-4000 we know about) they SHOULD outsell the GMC...what do they expect? Again...another piece that sounds like it loves Toyota beating one of the big three. Way to support America!

I must say that I am impressed by these vans. The flexible interior and the finishes they show in the interior should make this thing a barn burner in the sales arena. The Town and country in silver that they show in the photos looks slick and clean, and would probably be my choice. I am just curious if the mini-van is still a desired item or if the market is moving away from this type of product and into the cross-over territory. I know a lot of 20-30 somethings that will not touch a mini-van, no matter how good it is. There is a bit of a negative cache with them in that group...at least from what I have seen.

GM July sales dive 19%.But retail sales up 15%
toesuf94 replied to Toyota.vs.GM's topic in 2007 Sales Archive
Check out Ebay and the prices on the Tundra...I would say $7,000 would be about right. Still ugly as sin, but people will buy 'em. -
Step 1: Check Length of staples BEFORE using to secure headliner material to steel roof...wait - STAPLES??????????? Has this brainiac ever heard of 'SPRAY GLUE'? I can picture the poor kid's face though as he examines the handiwork then stands up and looks down at the roof of the car to see the true meaning of OOPS!!!!!!

Greeeeaaaat! You cannot buy one of these things and they have a 6 month wait on them...so let's send a bunch to China! Great call. Actually - to be honest, it is nice to see things going the OTHER way for a change. Way to have a hit on your hands GM!
-
Cool! I have been waiting to see stuff like this for ages! I was hoping for something along the lines of the sneak shots we got of the Challenger a couple of weeks ago...but the wheels look great!

I am not gay and I want to kick your ass for this...the guy is struggling - just like you are- and you out him? Wow. I would seriously watch your back (no pun intended). Not Cool. And, after 6 years, you were not his friend.

I think the overwhelming thing I am taking from this thread is that Hyundai sucks because they sucked so bad when they were first introduced. Isn't this the same thing we all bitch about with the idiots who still compare the build quality of GM cars of the late 70-90s to what is out there today and bank on it? I have to say that the Hyundai of 1988 is not the same car that we can go buy today. They have improved 10,000% from the original Excell's - yet we are still saying they are $h!e. When they are beating Lexus in surveys, we may want to rethink our views of the little company from Korea, or they may just sneak up and suprise us when we are not looking...like a company called Toyota did. And the dash looks like an ALIEN is about to eat it's way out of the CD slot.

orange and white 1970 Buick Sun Coupe - original Polara 426 Max Wedge Car with dual quad cross ram restored to better than original 1977 Trans Am with Transformers decal on rear window. 2007 Z06 - these are so impressive on the road. An all original and rusty GTO Convertible top down, and cruising yesterday. 1950 Ford Convertible Custom...super sweet body. 1979 Camaro painted like Jeff Gordon's Dupont Chevy mounted on a K5 Blazer chassis running 40-inch tires. Yep, it had all the decals too!

GM expects 40% mileage boost on big SUV hybrids
toesuf94 replied to regfootball's topic in General Motors
Game - set - match. I hope they do not suffer on the highway like the other hybrids do. I am seriously in the market for one of these. I love the lack of a roof rack on the roof and the aero package on the Hybrid. I have been thinking about this truck since they were announced, and cannot wait to get one. -
And I think that the GM designers in the 80's could only use squares, rectangles and 90 degree angles on every surface...Every car of the 80's from GM had square or rectangular everything...and yes, the brushed aluminum trim was so badly done. Not as bad as the ENTIRE dash on the Aries K being faux brushed...And those chrome strips on the seat backs would get so hot that you would get burned going into the back seats on a two door. Oh, the memories.

There was an 80 Cutlass Coupe Diesel in South Dakota for a very reasonable $2000 or so... here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Oldsmobile-...1QQcmdZViewItem Buy it and you can be in style with a BROWN CAR like the Buick Enclave...and I love this car with the painted rally wheels and that 80's flare!
-
I had a landlord with a LOVE for all things GM Diesel...he has a 1982-83 Cutlass Two door diesel with T-TOPS. It is in MINT condition and I will bet the only one in existence. His brother bought it new in Florida. This Pontiac...how many diesel 6000's were built???

The HHR's are great. And the new Astra should be a great car as well.

take a refrigerator magnet with you - one of the thin ones that are flexible - and see if it sticks in the rear quarters, bottom of front fenders and anywhere else rust is normally found in a 42 year old car. Next, ask for a drive and take it to a Jiffy Lube and ask the manager to let you go into the pit to look underneath. Check the shock towers from underneath, as well as the cowl area for rust. The early Mustangs were highly proned to rust in those areas. It is NOT cheap to repair these areas...and if the floor reads: STOP, 7 MILE ROAD, DO NOT ENTER <BRIDGE OUT> from underneath, then you will need to run! I just spent $3600 on repairing the floors and tranny tunnel on my wagon...that would make the $6500 price of admission quite unreasonable. Good luck! I am not a Ford fan, but they are reasonably decent drives and the parts are plentiful and cheap.

Correct! :AH-HA_wink: By the way - I LOVE the B-59. It may be my next car. At the Goodguys event in Des Moines there was a Candy Apple Red over white interior Lesabre that was so beautiful I simply stared at it - I was in such awe, I forgot to snap a picture or two of it!
-
absolutely - beautiful. Automotive art at it's best.
