  1. Somewhat related: Is it true Imported cars are being targeted in areas that have manufacturing bases for one of the big 3? I do not condone this, just curious if this backlash is indeed occuring. Just remember what YOUR lawmakers did when it comes time to vote again...get rid of the bastards that cannot seem to LOAN our money to those that are deserving...while they GIVE away BILLIONS to those that produce nothing with NO stipulations freely. Really chaps my ass!
  2. yeah...the 6.2 and 6 speeds were really smooth in the units I test drove. In fact, I was amazed at how much smoother the 6.2 is than the 5.3 in my Tahoe. I have not had a single issue with the 5.3 in my truck. I have not been thrilled with the mileage from the 5.3 versus the 5.7s I have had in the past. In fact, the one thing I am not looking forward to in the ESV will be the inability to shut off the 4WD system to gain the ability to power slide her on the ice. Sigh...guess I am having to grow up. I am really excited about the toys the ESV will bring with it...the surround sound should be fun as well! I will give you all a full rundown on the truck when it arrives.
  3. Thanks Dodgefan...I am looking forward to having the gadgets that the Caddy brings to the table. The Intellibeam headlamps are great on the Enclave...cannot wait for a set of my own in my daily driver.
  4. Well, that settles it! Buying the Escalade! I agree on the power difference, and that Quicksilver with the chrome accents is just stunning, and much prettier than the White Diamond IMHO. Thanks for your input guys. Photos will be posted upon arrival. Trying to put the screws to the dealer now...I want the advanced remotes and splash guards painted to match. I feel old wanting the splash guards, but I really tore up the sides of my Tahoe on the unprotected sides of my truck, rear bumper sides especially. This one is going to last me a while (probably keep it in the fleet forever) We try to take really good care of our cars, and with everything going on in the world...these beasts may become extinct. GULP!
  5. Here is the deal: My company car, my beloved Tahoe LT3 in Greystone is due to return to the General in February - it will be missed. However: with the deals that are out there on '08 SUV's, we will be buying one to replace my Tahoe. I tow with my truck now, and want the Autoride. The added wheelbase of the ESV/ Suburban will aid in the stability of the truck/trailer/car. So, with that said, here are the deals that are on the table right now: '08 Escalade ESV in Quicksilver over Ebony: LOADED. Sticker: $71,520.00 Buy: $46,260.00 6.2 AWD 6 speed. or '08 Suburban LTZ in White Diamond over Ebony: LOADED! Sticker: $59,445.99 Buy: $42,753.22 5.3 4 speed This is not a bragging session...I really want to hear your input on these two deals, as I need to make a choice this week. Thanks!
  6. See? Told ya! And I don't call anyone's ride (unless it has a big T on it) ugly. I even like the bright green on the Aztec...kinda funky!
  7. The Buick Rendezvous and the Pontiac Aztec The styling (can that word be used with the words Pontiac Aztec on the same page?) is polarizing, and they were relatively unloved by the car buying public, BUT they are really practical crossovers that get great fuel economy and seem to be holding up well. There seems to be a secondary following starting up with college aged kids buying them around here (Aztec in particular) and they seem to enjoy the funkyness of the design. AWD and lots of room and a return of close to 20 MPG is not uncommon! and a huge +1 on the Cutlass Cierra/Buick Century/Pontiac 6000 cars...they were never anything to look at in my book, but the damned things are still on the road in large numbers, are cheap as hell to run, and seem to be well loved by their owners...although rust is really starting to claim a lot of them around Iowa any more. Just saw a rather nice maroon International Series on the road the other day in fact!
  8. I understand that...but these stipulations were not given to Citibank, AIG, Fannie and freddie...suddenly the Government wants to tell GM How it will do business from now on...no more private jets, Rick screwed the pooch so he has to go...all sorts of stipulations. yet they gave BILLIONS to the financial companies and banks, are buying Billions in Bad debt...with NOT stipulations. Who do these people think they are? That is what I meant by having GM just give them the finger and shut it down. As much as that idea pains me, I think it may take a new start to make them competitive. I know there is a chance that GM would NOT make it out of bankruptsy, and that would be horrible...but the Government needs to look at what GM has Done for this country. Besides all of that, how about Congress park all the private jets and free travel that we pay for until they get THEIR HOUSE in order? And GM may not be paying income taxes right now, but the suppliers I bet do...as do the workers. So there would be a NET LOSS if GM shuttered the plants. Not to mention the debt that this country owes GM for it's innovations over the years as well as the efforts in the wars...GM is owed that money on principle.
  9. Toyota Press release: " with BEST EVER inventory levels, Toyota continues to offer the Toyota buyer it's BEST EVER choice of new cars, SUV's and pick-ups, particularly in the L.A. basin." I really hate Toyota...anyone see a repeat of the "accidental" fire at the storage warehouse where Chrysler had all those cars piled up?
  10. The last time I saw a car designed by a non-automotive person, it looked something like this: I wish GM would just give the government the Finger and ask the idiots in Congress where they are going to replace the $156 Billion in tax revenues when they go out of business. Tell them all to go to hell and dig in, lay off a ton of workers...and just try to get by until things turn around.
  11. Sadly...I found another photo of it and it confirms that it is indeed a Pontiac. The hood is definately a Poncho. 1967-69 Pontiac Catalina http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt...I7ADBS%26sa%3DN I need a life.
  12. there should be an effing warning on that post...here I was thinking it was a car or a craigslist find...and I get Hillary...seriously puked after that. A photo like that can turn even the straightest guy to the other team.
  13. the Volkswagen Type 1 Kafer?
  14. wow...the body and paint work on that is just ART! Kudos and many thanks for bringing that to fruition. Just stunning craftwork there.
  15. G.M. should do the same damned thing. All these shows do is show your best product to your competition. Don't believe me? Look at how Mazda beat Buick to market with the CX-7 and CX9 that are pretty much Mazda versions of the Enclave concept truck. Save the money GM and use those funds to target the true auto enthusiests at car shows and concourse events. All these auto shows do is put your product out to a public that is intent on pulling off trim parts, stealing cigarette lighters, and otherwise lowering the value of what was once a new car.
  16. Like your thinking...this would be a WONDERFUL idea! I would love to see this happen!
  17. you know, the thing I took as funny about the whole hearing was the question about the Private Jets that the CEO's flew down in...and that none of them raised their hands when asked if they intended to sell the jets RIGHT NOW and return home via Commercial. Not one of the CEO's had the BALLS to ask if the Members of the House and Senate were willing to do the same damned thing! Does anyone know what we pay to fly Pelosi to work every week? And she is just ONE PERSON? Congress is running with a budget shortfall to the tune of $141B...and they have the balls to ask the very corporate leaders who they tax in the amount of $56B a year why they should get a loan from the federal government. How about $56 Billion Reasons DUMBASSES!
  18. Mustang: I also live in Cedar Rapids, Where were you parked - downtown? Which garage? I would LOVE to help you educate the individual if caught. Just drop me a note here and I will be there to help administer some tough love to the individual in question...is it too late in the season to take someone swimming down at the 5 in 1 dam? Nothing pisses me off more than a person stealing from somebody else...you want something? Earn it or you don't get it. If you see a Greystone 2007 Tahoe running around with a Goodguy's member sticker in the center of the back window...that is me. I would be happy to check the pawn shops for your radio...I am sure that is where it will end up.
  19. Ach du lieber Gott! 2Billion Euro!
  20. Damnit! That was MY favorite line from the ariticle!!! I only disagree about the point he made about the cars being a smidgen BEHIND the Camry and Accord...they are equal or BETTER than the Camry and Accord.
  21. So, college boy dip$h! from middle of Michigan...you say retrain all of the guys on the lines making the cars that nobody is buying and just let GM, Ford and Chrysler die...that is your plan? So, how does the 45 year old guy with a mortgage, car payment, kids to feed et al do all of that while being a sponge to academia? Who is paying for the 'EDJUCATION' AND putting food on the table while he is being re-trained? Figure out what that will cost and MULTIPLY that number by 3,000,000 (the number of jobs lost DIRECTLY by the closing of the Big 3) - where is that money coming from? Next problem: The retirees. Where is THAT money coming from? Going to retrain THEM to go out into the workforce to do what exactly? And here is something that Mr. College Boy is not thinking of: Not to say that the average line worker is not a bright individual...but do a majority of them have academia written all over them? Would they even PASS a college entrance exam? (hell, I went to college and I doubt I could get in based on the 17-year absence from school!!!) There are a lot of flaws in the article that dip$h! penned...but I am sure it matters to him not as he strolls out to the parking lot at the end of the quad and fires up his Nissan Altima and drives over to his parent's house for another hand out from the Bank of Mom and Dad. New law: Unless you are actually a CONTRIBUTING member of society, you do NOT get to have an OPINION about the Economy.
  22. Well, let's hope this gets out to the masses VERY soon, because every word of that is true! Don't believe me...go buy another Camry and see what happens!!!
  23. I want the car soooo bad. I hope she calls or gets back with me, and I really hope the ad is not bogus! She did say she was going to get pictures of it for me. It will be really cool restored...that is why I hope I can snap it up before some idiot does and uses it for parts on his circle track racer or something stupid. It will be put stock, ugly gold wheels and everything! Based on her description, it matches the car in the ad attached: It will be lovingly cared for if it is indeed what she says it is. I have a lot of great memories in both an '84 Berlinetta V6 (first car over 30 mph!) and my '85 Berlinetta V8 I had in college (sensored stories of youth!! inappropriate for those under the age of 18!). Both were wonderfully trouble free and fun cars. I will put the car into shape and put it away for posterity. Not a lot of these left!
  24. So, a couple of weeks ago I am surfing the interweb, and do my normal Craigslist through Google searches for various things, like parts for the '57 Buick, a '34 Airflow, or my continued quest for a Berlinetta Camaro with V-8 and T-tops. Imagine my suprise when I locate one close by me, and the price is just were I need it to be ($500!!!). So I do the e-mail to the seller and I hear nothing until yesterday (two weeks!!) She had some details about the car (needs painted) and that it is missing a t-top panel (dropped it) and that it runs and drives. All important Digital dash is installed and working!!! (only 800 were made with the digital dash in '86) here are the parts that bother me: The person has not answered my big questions: Mileage. Rust. And I gave her my cell number or asked for her number and no calls have come my way...I really want this car - badly! She is less than 15 minutes from me. I could have the car home in 15 minutes if she would just call me and set up a time to meet. Seriously, if the car is not rusted out and is as clean as she lets on (low miles too, but what they are - who knows????) it will be my winter project and my transportation come spring. So, what is the vibe you guys get; scam?
  25. all of what you said and the always popular lack of ANY safety devices...these racers had BALLS to the enth degree! The most these guys EVER seemed to wear were leather helmets and goggles! That is one beautiful car, and kind of like a beautiful woman, I would probably skip all the safety stuff too just for a quick romp!! You only live once (well, in my case twice) so you might as well go out with a smile on your face!
