  1. Juke with this engine was a big time fuel guzzler.
  2. wow, talk about 'overdone'. a buddy bought his kid like an early 2000's rsx. The kid is already talking about some Civic hatch he's gonna buy. Must be this thing he's talking about. Totally a bullseye for the rice / Acura / Vtec crowd. OMG look at those wings!
  3. Camaro got totally redone, and looks about the same. Bitching from everywhere. Q5 gets redone, looks the same, and the German sheeple will oogle over it. Audis have looked the same since forever
  4. Having seen very few ATS coupes ever, i saw a beautiful red one while on a short vacay stay recently. There was great bling to the front and overall the car was stunning in its setting. Pretty amazing considering the mundane profile of this car. The CTS coupe was so radical, and Caddy decided to tone down the ATS coupe styling. I don't really think the V treatment does much to amp up the looks of the car. The greenhouse / side profile is just too generic. I keep thinking 'second ever G6'. This really is a pontiac in drag. That said, yes the biggest flaw is the interior as it is with the rest of the ATS. Apart from the content and quality of it, a bit smallish too. Cadillac has to make whatever profits it can off the V cars, the few that sell because the rest of the ATS line can't sell and make profit. I'd get a v6 Camaro and call it good if i wanted the same handling and 80% of the engine for 50% the price.
  5. i thought they wanted Buick's demographic to get younger. I mean, Avenir, Brougham, same effect. Avenir as a model would have been a different deal. I'm sure this will be huge in China.
  6. town where my mom lives, 50k pop in a rural midwest area......huge GM dealer that's been a regional pillar for decades. They have all the GM brands. I bet they don't sell a ton of Caddies, and it is one of the nook in a corner stores. Closest other GM dealers at least an hour away i think. No Lexus or Infiniti or Audi for an hour away. Conservative buyers there like their GM's and even if they don't buy in big number the Cadillacs, they are still aspirational there. Lots of SRX's sold. Maybe they sell (purely a guess) 50-100 caddies a year. But their same buyers buy lots of pickups and have money and when they want a car they may want a cadillac too. Cadillac should be analytical on which of those smaller dealers they try to cut out. Part of GM's success over history is because they are in these smaller town midwest pockets no other dealers are.
  7. this is sized between Cherokee and Renegade? Or Cherokee and Grand Cherokee? looks meh to me but also done just nice enough to sell quite well i think.
  8. Equinox is now downsizing to true compact chassis, plus its not sexy styled, just looks like run of the mill typical SUV An Impala sports crossover could break the mold. I think of a jacked up panamera (not a Cayenne) Impala is top of the line and not econo like an Equinox. think 400 hp twin turbo v6 and AWD
  9. HAHA! No, the Fiat dealer had a CHERRY used SRX Cadillac that they got on a trade in. If my mom didn't have some other things going on that were taking all her attention I'd be forcing her into that very nice 13 SRX (FWD only is why they prob still have it, edit, yes they still do)
  10. GMC Granite, anyone? ( i don't want KIA)
  11. that bump in power and torque vs. 160/184 is quite a bit. Whatever extra pounds the new Equinox carries compared to the Malibu will probably be offset by that extra juice. the Equinox has a smaller wheelbase and therefore too some of the weight came out of the chassis just by making it shorter. For most of the driving population nowadays that's what we will be ordered to have, tiny turbos. If you want power you have to pony up big bucks for a bigger four cylinder. Pony up another 10-15 grand if you want a car with a 300hp v6. My 1.5 pulled 42.6 mpg on a 30 mile run on 60 mph crusing after i filled it the other day though......when it does that, maybe more power isn't needed........ lifetime mpg is sitting at right about 33 right now....... anyone who buys an Equinox would be thrilled to get 30 mpg.... or high twenties with AWD ---edit---- wonder if the no Equinox hybrid is due to the not really a good place for the packaging of the batteries..... is this the Cruze platform or Malibu? It sort of tips it to be more related to the Cruze because the Cruze gets the diesel, the wheelbases almost match, and the Cruze doesn't get a hybrid.
  12. chevy's web site says 40 mpg highway for the diesel is expected. Motor Trend says " The new 1.5-liter shares architecture with those in other products but gets its own unique cam timing (later intake valve closure) and an improved turbocharger to boost performance and economy in the Equinox fitment. It is expected to be SAE certified to 170 hp and 203 lb-ft. " http://www.motortrend.com/cars/chevrolet/equinox/2018/2018-chevrolet-equinox-first-look-review/ for the diesel: "We’re promised it makes the Equinox fun to drive with an output of 136 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque and an estimated highway fuel economy rating of 40 mpg. All three engines will feature auto start/stop."
  13. wish i was good at sketching or digital modeling, i'd try to work up what i am thinking
  14. nothing less than a homerun. Diesel a big surprise. Wish this had been out 3 months ago it's stylistically consistent with the Malibu. It also is highly similar to the current model in style, so it's not 'changing the product' in the public's eyes. Looks like they got the size part right too. This chassis has room (see Envision). This will hit the jackpot with room and space plus light weight and good mpg. This will probably end up the best selling chevrolet. 1.5 is a better base engine than the 2.5NA but the extra weight of the Equinox vs the malibu, and having driven this 1.5 for 3 months now, i think more folks should consider the 2.0 if you want a lot of oomph. Hybrid should have been offered as well. Bet the 1.5 is a huge dog when paired with AWD. Now let's see if GM can keep the price in check. I should tell my mom to wait for this instead of a good used SRX
  15. what exactly did Venza miss on......it seems to have a wagonesque thing going on from certain angles, and some ungainliness. The firewall prob a bit far forward cause it looks a bit minivanish. Needs longer dash to greenhouse but not so much to be a wagon. But Venza size is not far off. Ride height on Venza less than other CUV's...i'd get my mom a Venza if it weren't a Toyota and didn't have a few dorky angles of view. My point here is if Impalas lose sales, and CUV's are selling, make your 'large sedan' (Impala) into a crossover, and then that opens up some room in the market to make your midsize (the Malibu) possibly get a few more sales too.
  16. larger than this, and certainly not awkward like this, but ride height is sort of what i am thinking about
  17. no, just want it to be 2 rows only. Edge sized or a bit larger. Not trucky looking like a typical crossover.
  18. Want to run this idea past some. I still find the Impala market viable and as a new Malibu driver, I can attest that the Malibu is great but still is not a full sedan and does not ride like those who like full sizers like. Yet all the schizzle is crossovers. Maybe, maybe, the next Impala should be a large Ford Edge sized crossover (maybe with a roof a bit lower and sexier), 2 row.....extended sedan crossover.....think Kizashi concept or Acura ZDX, or a decent looking Venza....... or a 'Panamera crossover'. No doubt in Impala's legacy is wagon...it's not like Impala name hasn't been put on a utility vehicle before. Maybe the next Impala is a sedan and crossover choice, where the rear aft of second row is the main differentiator...... the crossover could have a fastback hatch, and the sedan could be a trunk...... the sedan would be higher or just ditch the sedan altogether and just make the Impala crossover look sexy and rakish as hell with recognizable Chevy Impala design cues. Put it on the Xt5, Lacrosse platform, give it AWD option, and the twin turbo option.
  19. why can't Fiat and Alfa go away. I went to go look at a used vehicle for my mom at a Fiat dealer. The 4c has major sex appeal, and the Guilia has the probability of a cult following, but 500 sales are in the tank, no one wants them here, and the 500x isn't even selling, 500L looks like it was designed by people with issues. Alfa has no vehicle that has potential to break a niche of any volume to even sell enough to be in that market position you describe above.
  20. we need to weed the Japanese makers down, nissan, toyota group, honda will even be lucky to remain apart from USA Mazda is being valiant but they will get absorbed in ten years too
  21. the non off road merc wagon is pretty nice, and that sells to a well to do but small demographic, which is why they bring that over. the audi a6 allroad days are over, i think. but if merc thinks they call sell 800 of them a year, then sure.
  22. I've read to stay away from most early chrysler products with that 9 speed auto. Horror stories abound on forums. Those who may not want an Altima, get this.... 2017 Sentra SR 1.6 turbo plus choice of stick sounds crazy but I would consider one http://nissannews.com/en-US/nissan/usa/presskits/us-2017-nissan-sentra-sr-turbo-press-kit/photos/2017-nissan-sentra-sr-turbo-53
  23. original escape hybrid sold really well in the US. It was a mistake for Ford to discontinue it in 2013.
  24. it's not just diesel they are over regulating. Globally the taxes and regs have created things like a 1.0 litre three turbo in a Ford Mondeo in Europe. etc. The crossroads in powertrain development Drew alludes to in my mind is the push and pull, the ever increasing demands of regulation (for regulation sake now) are far exceeding the value of investment. It's ruining the auto industry. They all stepped up to the plate to make their 1.5's and tiny turbos and hybrids and 10 speed autos, now is not the time to double the requirements again. It's time to make the technology that is in play now, reliable and cost effective. We'd all be better off if they stop pussy footing and just come out and say 'all global powertrains shall be capable of either gas-electric hybrid, gas-electric hybrid plug in, or plug in hybrid propulsion. With credits given for innovation in other fuels. Let's skip over this struggle spending millions and billions making 2.0's gain 2 more mpg each product cycle when we can just flat out mandate fuel diversity and jump from a 30 mpg car to a 40 mpg car. Let's get every manufacturer deeply immersed. Create global tax incentives to entice manufacturers to join forces and engineer fewer but better powertrains. I really do think the crossroads is that we need to recognize we've got most of what we can out of pure gas powertrains. We would see more of an investment with development dollars in standardizing future electric infrastructure. Let's develop scalable battery technologies. Let's think about what our charging network is 40 years down the pipe. etc. I love diesels too, and this clearly a diesel witch hunt going on but I can see why any manufacturer would scale back on these.
