  1. how nice of you to chime in with some sophomoric humor. in the spirit of the topic, i'll wink and nod. by the way, i have shown my Diamante a couple times for sale recently, and I am looking for someone would buy it. Its been a good car, but I'm bored with it and looking to get something new. More specifically a Ford 500 or Freestyle most likely, although a new Galant is a possibility as well. I guess I am mainly interested in bashing Toyota today more specifically since their entire operation is smug and produces dull lifeless cars. What I liked about the article here from DeLorenzo was the notation of the biased press and the protectionist practices of Japan.
  2. dude, there is some seriously f*king good deals on some of the magazines on there! in the past, i have gone to the booth at the auto show every year and i can renew for 3 years for 25 bucks. i think my C/D and R/T are all the way paid for by 2012 right now. LOL
  3. auto extremist read the first two bits on this page. I more than agree with what he is saying on both topics here. Toyota's new hybrid ads are full of pomposity and also, the highlight on Japanese protectionism and currency manipulation, well, maybe we're about to hit the wave here soon where folks get a little anti-japan sentiment. I'm ok with some Japanese car bashing, personally. "Not only will the grass be greener, you'll see more of the world, you'll live longer, your days will never end, you'll see forever, and you're going to die if you don't start driving a Toyota with Hybrid Synergy Drive. What? You didn't get the memo? That's the unmistakable and not-so-subliminal message in the new corporate ad campaign from Toyota, hyping its Hybrid Synergy Drive." "General Motors. Is GM finally waking from its slumber and taking the gloves off? GM and U.S. lawmakers blasted Japan for arbitrary and discriminatory trade policies last week in Washington. And it's about time."
  4. the mazda3 is a nice car.
  5. I'm sure the owners will love it when its in the shop half the time.
  6. that's what i thought too........ the commercial was worded in such a way that it was 'either or' in terms of being able to tell if it was GM or a local concoction. Actually, if it were a local bank, you could team the inevitable GM incentives up with the delayed financing. Financial suicide perhaps....but if summun needs a pickemup truck and needs low payments for awhile.......
  7. A dealer here is advertising buy a new chevy truck/suv and make no payments til 2007. First off, I'm laughing because 'another manufacturer' did this before and it still receives criticism around here, LOL...but I'm wondering if this is just one dealer that dreamt this up here local, or is this a new GM sanctioned sales tactic/gimmick. Is a GM deal or just a local thing? If it is a GM deal, this hits a new low in incentive tactics! If not, the dealer is darn desperate to move all those gas sucking trucks and SUV's!
  8. i think about 3/4 of the autojournalists ought to be bagging groceries instead anyways.
  9. GM sticks with their FWD platforms because they are too cheap to develop new platforms quickly enough. But they developed them from the start due to packaging efficiencies and cost savings too. GM's older FWD platforms as not nearly as packaging efficient as they ought to be today, but the current Epsilon is an improvement and I'm sure future platforms will be improved too. In the meantime, I'm guessing the Grand Prix GXP is a good place for a GM fan who likes performance could stop to get a nice FWD sedan to challenge the ugly Charger. The Charger is one butt ass ugly automobile, i think my Aztek is prettier. The 300 is proof you could slap a Bentley grille on anything and folks will call it attractive. Plus, the Hemi sucks fuel. No shame in the GXP. 5.7 0-60 and great fwd handling. GTO 2 door and CTS/CTSv are options too.
  10. we only used 2 out of the three bombs so far, haven't we? c'mon people, its only a joke.........
  11. maybe its cheaper for daewoo to do what fuji was doing.
  12. msn
  13. has a bit of an Aura to it?
  14. fusion is 2-3 weeks late hitting here. meanwhile, a leftover AWD Five Hundred SE awaits me at the dealer 2 miles from home.......
  15. even tho the numbers are down, i see a lot of encouraging news in there as well. The G6 and Impala are moving. No doubt the low inventoires hurt big time.
  16. the chicago trio sold on pace for like 225,000 units last month, based on YTD numbers is 220,000. That's nothing to sneeze at, especially with the Fusion trio coming around to clean a bunch of clock. I want to compare the Chicago trio to the Chrylser trio.
  17. I like this approach but you know the press is gonna butcher it, and mention toyota 34 times in the article. Saturn better have this out on display at NAIAS. Its a shame they couldn't get the CVT to work here in the Vue to squeeze even more mpg out of it, but I guess they had their chance there. the CVT in the ford products is amazing.
  18. F*CK EM (the analysts)
  19. yeah, but is that an Ecotec or is the Daewoo D-tec crap that gets piss poor mileage.
  20. well, the koreans are starting destroy the japanese in electronics and cars. I truly believe if the Japanese and Korean automakers start to get too strong, and I honestly belive this, if it gets to a bad point, GM and Ford will join and leverage all their forces and you WILL see shit happen. Right now GM and Ford are just in sleepy wake up one eye phase. They are just now starting to get that their very existences in the future are in jeopardy. The next phase which is beginning is the honest effort to 'stem the tide'. If that doesn't do, politicians will be engaged and real efforts will be made to destroy the entire network of the ricers. The US will never attack the Euros, because our origins as a country as Euro, and the euros are fine with the lower volume niche markets that will not threaten our market share long term. Plus, the style conscious see Euro as car high fashion and the rich need fashion statements in cars too. The Japs are starting to invade that mindset some though with the more Infinits and lexus they sell. If I were like GM or something, the first thing to fix is healthcare and pensions and union contracts, and build much better cars that folks want, but after that then I would work on destroying the fabric of the footholds the Jap cars have here now if they want to kick them out long term.
  21. "flatland fourwheel drive beautyparlor queens gas endorsements to help them offset the added expense of going to the store after the trip to the salon" LOL....I liked that one, its true but sad. I guess my thing here is support continuing cafe increases whether or not they are tied to anything else. Snate's point about regulating consumers isn't a bad idea. If we didn't depend so much on getting our oil from elsewhere, I would not support any sort of govt. influence on the consumption side, but since our entire existence is dependent on oil and realtions with other countries, folks do need to 'get' that our use is a part of our international policy. Really though, it wouldn't take much to increase cafe from 27.5 to say, 29.0 in like 3-4 years. mpg is more dependent on vehicle weight than anything. There are fuel suckers in every size class. A jetta does not need to weight 3400 pounds just like a large SUV could weight 500 pounds less with more efficent engineering and more use of lightweight materials. And crash safety would not have to take a hit for it either if we let the eingeers do their magic. I we cut vehicle weights 5% as a whole across the board, that would help. Aluminum, new unified vehicle wiring architecturesalone could make up those savings. I read once where it said that wiring now was like over 200 pounds a vehicle.
  22. repeat , mazda 6 Target Price: $21,632 (I'm sure you could get it even another thou cheaper at some dealers). if they would sell the G6 with the 3.9 and stick and lthr and roof and side air bags at that price then i could say tit for tat and its fine. The G6 simply gets obscenely pricey once you add the GTP goods.
  23. it can make the rpm but the question is whether it does it as velvety smooth and liquidy as the 'other' v6's. the 3500 is still asthmatic in this regard, so i doubt the 3900 is a big upgrade over the 3500 int his regard.
  24. XM® Satellite Radio $350 Side Air Bags and TCS Option $800 Accessories None Selected NISMO Accessories (installation not included) None Selected Base MSRP $29,550.00 Total Packages, Options, & Accessories $1,150.00 Total NISMO Accessories $0.00 Destination & Handling $580.00 Total Configured MSRP† $31,280.00 ******** in fairness, the SE-RAltima's price has increased like 1500 or so and now seems to be about 2 grand over the G6 for this year. So maybe in this case, the G6 can differentiate itself some on price. I do know baseSE Maximas were selling for around 25 grand here recently. **** subtract the XM from the maxima as the GTP I do not believe has it in this example.
