We'll see what happens. Part of the reason I went for the Malibu was the new power train and its FE. It drove so much smoother than older gm 4 bangers and the turbo really helps with torque. I've had the oil pan fixed twice for leaks and the Ecm was reprogrammed under recall to stop preignition issues that have been melting pistons per what I have been able to tell, my drivability is less and power seems a bit less Mpg has been quite reduced but I still may chalk that up to winter blend gas (I've logged every tank since I got it) one time I pulled well over 40 mpg on a 50 mile stretch on a road trip where the car rode like silk lately not as smooth on another forum site the theory is the ecm recall has neutered the car and it was origInally set up to score big fe ratings for cafe ford had complaints when their fusion and escape came out that there was issues and fe was not as advertised my car was getting advertised fe before the issues and before winter no problem I only have about 8400 miles on it I would hope gm didn't screw this up it's not worth the low power output of this little 1.5 if the fuel economy doesn't come with it i would like to see them dial back the fe and cafe pressures for awhile. Let's work on improving reliability and making the technology more affordable I still love turbo though I'd like to see technology move towards smaller v6 turbos like 2.5 turbo v6 for sedans

I was at the auto show last night and touched ! The atlas. There was a crowd of first baby urbanites milling about it. It looks in person ok but it also looks confused. Is it a Subaru Forester XL or Honda Pilot in drag? Dude opened the doors for a bit and the interior looks Passat Jetta cheap as well. It it did look roomy and space efficient. Give it credit for that.

can only hope for good style here. the new acadia is a size and style disaster. well,I'll edit this. If the enclave and traverse can cover the large cuv market adequately themselves, that will be ok. Just that the new Acadia even if it is a more manageable size for some, is a big letdown in design and interior. Hope the enclave does not suffer that. New xt5 is well done so it bodes well for enclave

right, and then something better than a no power 1500 cc engine that requires reprogramming so it doesn't implode, and ends up losing 15% of its advertised mpg. (refer to me for more) every day now wishing i would have went for power and not mpg. there is a middle ground, time to start bringing the optionla higher power motors back and charing less for their options.

Volkswagen Replaces CC with Arteon: Comments
regfootball replied to William Maley's topic in Geneva International Motor Show
Is the dash the exact same in the current euro Passat? How can you tell, all VW dashes look so similar thats a familiar looking greenhouse window line..... the Atlas and now this. vW styling sure is curious these days. One thing coming out of Europe that is interesting is glass roof panel roof. Sedans all feel so low and claustrophobic. This may be something that makes them feel more spacious. The front fender to door reminds me of Taurus. The flared fenders remind me of last gen maxima. Overall it's like a Chinese version of a vW.- 17 replies

my guesses here 1. chevy had to pull out of europe before they could logically sell opel and have Opel's worth remain the best 2. they've been courting PSA for a long time, this deal is a precursor to an actual deal of greater cooperation at some point down the road 3. Chevy could return to Europe if they think it makes sense 4. Opel realistically could not grow any more in sales as a brand and in fact forecasts may have predicted decrease over time.

I want to know if GM and PSA will share platform and powertrain development or anything else going forward. Friendly cooperation?

2018 Chevrolet Equinox showroom impression
regfootball replied to regfootball's topic in Reader Reviews
Seeing the new equinox makes me want to have a 2018 Buick insignia wagon. (The wagon, not a jacked up tour cross). To be honest I like the new nox but now I would consider the escape more than ever. Nox has a better back seat which may be one deciding factor. -
2018 Chevrolet Equinox showroom impression

Agree. No testosterone at all. Just like crv and RAV4 -
a good buy on the used market if you pick the right equipment and model.

Well, pure coincidence, didn't even know it was out yet. 2018 Chevy Equinox in the showroom when i picked up my Malibu from service today. Wow, very different than the current one is all I can say. Shape looks good mostly, apart from clumsiness and awkwardness in the greenhouse and proportion of top to bottom. The design continues on Chevy's current themes inside and out, but is definitely less butch and less crisp than the current Nox. The greatly reduced wheelbase is definitely noticeable. Somewhat feminine and some Euro look to it also (as if it would compete with Renaults and Peuguots in France). I sat in it, the front feels a fair amount less spacious. I felt constricted by the console and the whole thing feels narrower. Seating is nicely upright though, and the interior materials are nice quality and consistent with the new Cruze and Malibu. The design of the dash is plainer than before, but definitely very functional and not unattractive. Oddly enough, the rear was quite comfortable for me. The rear bottom was nicely high and good head room. Much foot clearance under the front seat. Legroom was good but not as much as the current model when the seat is adjusted back. Overall the interior feels noticeably downsized......will be interesting to see if repeat buyers bolt for the refreshed Escapes and RAV's and Crv's. Usable trunk space might be about the same. Trunk looks to be a little cheaply trimmed out but certainly not any worse than a Kia or Hyundai. It is bigger than a Trax, of course, but i'm not sure it feels like a whopping step up. I will say this. The seats felt REALLY nice and were sculpted very nicely. Very supportive. Seem like a huge upgrade over my new Malibu's crappy seats. Should be interesting to see how the market receives this smaller Equinox. It will probably draw in some new customers who like it smaller and more efficient. Those who saw the current Equinox as a mid sizer in drag will likely not dig the new one. I like it for what it is but i have some doubts about how well it will do in the market. The RAV and CRV got larger and luxed, and Ford has been refining the enormously popular Escape with a new one out soon too. The downsize here will make more sense when Chevy plugs the gap between this new one and the upcoming Traverse...with the Blazer or Trailblazer that is new Acadia sized.

Sales: Sales Figure Ticker: February 2017
regfootball replied to William Maley's topic in Sales Figure Ticker
Chrysler made a great decision a few years ago when they reskinned the 300 and Charger. The v6 AWD became the most popular powertrain configuration. In these wintery parts, its a huge sell for someone who wants a car but in a market deluged with crossovers. AWD and size on the cheap. Now the Challenger has AWD too. A pony car you can use in winter. That alone should snag some buyers for aging boomers looking for a weekend go to see Jimmy in college trip / toy car kind of car. All Chrysler is really doing the last few years is straight out of old GM playbook. Old tech, outdated stuff, sold with HUGE rebates.- 31 replies

I like it! Of course, I did own an Aztek once,...... The interior on this thing is pretty bangup. Sort of Lexusy. I like the uniqueness and the fastback.

Sales: Sales Figure Ticker: February 2017
regfootball replied to William Maley's topic in Sales Figure Ticker
I brought my Malibu in to get fixed again today. In the service bay waiting was a new Camaro. It is such an amazing rig. I looked in the window though, and there was barely enough room between the front and rear seats to slip a fed ex envelope. As I drove home in my Malibu hybrid loaner, i came to a stop behind a fairly new Challenger. It's a real sized vehicle. It's taller and us older folks who cling to muscle cars like being able to sit up a little bit, and see out of the damn thing. And it would it nice once in awhile on swingers weekends to be able to at least throw the women in the back seat. I think this gen of Camaro will become collectible for hard core performance geeks. But i recommend Chevy / GM already getting dies set for a redesign of the body.....taller, maybe a WB stretch, and a shape that allows you to see out and have people in the back once in awhile. A little trunk space too. Chrysler dealers were advertising 300 AWD's for 249 a month with 249 down......talk about making hey with an ancient platform. That LX platform may outperform the W body if this keeps up.- 31 replies

Chevrolet News:Rumorpile: Dont Fret. A New Camaro Z/28 is Coming
regfootball replied to William Maley's topic in Chevrolet
this is just for the Z28. If you can put this engine in a Caddy and sell 5,000 of them. Why not put it in a Z28 too, sell 5,000 of those, and you just cut development cost per unit in half. Leave the pushrods for the SS. The ZL1 has it too. This would really make the Z28 unique among Camaros. Chevy probably makes more profit on one ZL1 or Z28 than they do on 5 other camaros or 20 Cruzes. Now there's your foundation and justification for a new v8 in Cadillacs as well. -
there's a couple that are interesting, but we don't need more brands here in the US, I don't think.

What have we done? 2016 Malibu 1LT 1.5t
regfootball replied to regfootball's topic in Member's Rides Showcase
yeah, the 'fix' didn't fix the problem. PLUS, now this The following recalls have been found for your 2016 Chevrolet Malibu E2 Program Title: Stochastic Pre-Ignition (SPI) Causing Cracked Piston Program Description: Certain 2016 and 2017 model year Chevrolet Malibu vehicles equipped with a 1.5L LFV engine may have a pre-ignition condition that could cause piston damage. If this condition occurs, the vehicle may perform poorly and oil consumption could increase. In addition, a service engine light may illuminate indicating an engine misfire. If the condition is present, and the repair below is not completed before multiple pre-ignition events occur, a piston may be damaged and the engine may need to be repaired or replaced. Repair Description: Reprogram the Engine Control Module (ECM) and change the engine oil with ACDelco dexos 1 Full-Synthetic motor oil of the part number as indicated in the parts section. (In Canada use the exact Mobil 1 part number specified in the parts section). It is very important that only oil with the correct part number is used in this repair. What was a love affair with the new ride has me quickly losing enthusiasm and confidence this crap is borderline unacceptable. -
2.5 - 3.0 turbo v6 should be the base motor.

What have we done? 2016 Malibu 1LT 1.5t
regfootball replied to regfootball's topic in Member's Rides Showcase
i made them check the dipstick before i went out the door. The receipt says 5 units of oil again. I mentioned several times to be sure to put the right amount in it and that the 1.5 takes less oil than the other malibu engines. got 44.5 mpg in my short stint in the hybrid. I will elobarate on that in a little while. So they replaced the oil pan, etc. But if the engine is overfilled and it blows out the engine seal i would hope that Chevy is getting on the horn with all these service departments and telling people to friggin check which motor!!!! I'm gonna look up the filter no. when i get home and see if they got that right too. -

What have we done? 2016 Malibu 1LT 1.5t
regfootball replied to regfootball's topic in Member's Rides Showcase
rocking a loaner 2016 Malibu hybrid same color with about 70 miles on it for the day while they are fixing an 'oil pan leak' on my 1.5. i'm not convinced this is a defect, i truly believe they got the oil quantity wrong on the last oil change and it blew out something. Should be interesting to see if they screw up the oil fill again. -
