"Reasonably pleasant to drive and relatively roomy, but unimpressive fuel economy for the small size and poorly equipped unless you spend extra." "Yaris seems to fall short of Toyota's promise of a premium vehicle at a bargain price." "$12,000 to start is a fair guess, and for that price you won't get a radio, possibly not a tachometer, definitely not anti-lock brakes."

i think its clumsy, but remember, the designers are still trying everything to figure out the magic formula for proportioning vehicles like this. it will take time. much better to allow them to figure out how to make a successful functional vehicle design language than suffer through the old paradigm of low riding uncomfortable useless hardly functional vehicles.

fusion meets camry meets CTS dull boring deriviative unoriginal.... in other words.....generic asian design or 'toyota' there's still enough flighty real estate agents out there that buy lexus camrys so lexus will sell all they can build........

yeah, the equinox' interior is horrible. it could use a version of the tahoe theme.
-
i bet GM is redesigning the suspension and stuff already in the ass end to gain some trunk space back.
-
yeah that piano wood really helps the motorget some torque instead of haing to blow 7500 rpm to get any power.

cheap plastic and bad interiors clueless management in many ways many unrefined and uncompetitive engines (mostly the v6's although it is starting to improve) w bodies and other old platforms bean counters stifle everything old dealers and practices crippling labor and benefit arrangements product cycles far too long still have some bad styling and interior packaging issues a general public that mostly can't think for themsleves Neils, jobs, Leinerts, etc.

unless you have a car seat and long legged toddler.....LOL

HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sonnett?

Impala SS v8 for me, wish it were sportier. The EX v6 6 sp Honda is nice, but i would rather have an SE-R altima GXP GP or some other car over that.
-
i test drove one. it needs a 6 speed auto and needs to be more sporty in the handling and looks department. its a cruiser with an engine package and small backseat....other than that its a pretty nice car. If i just wanted the engine, I would go GXP.

oh geez. we are supposed to design our cars to FIT people. That's what DESIGN is about. Deal with the fact that folks want more room. Its not a carmakers job to push a social agenda to get McDonald's to stop supersizing their fries. The real crime is wasting tons of the earths resources to build cars that people cannot feel comfortable in. Crossfire? What's wrong with some shoulder room and hip room? How would you like it if someone built you a house that didn't accomodate the size for things to make you feel comfortable? This is an entire separate issue than our nation's national fitness. Its about designing to fit, not to piss off. Its the customer's choice as to what fits them. If people got taller, shouldn't we increase head room and leg room? This European self deprivation mentality on this sort of stuff drives me nuts. Everyone was wondering why I put 3'-0" doors in my new house. Then, they walk around and check it out and see how nice it is to loosen up and provide room if you need it. Its great for moving furniture and really feels nice moving through spaces. By the way, a narrow car like a Lancer Ralliart has great seating for the wider set. The seat hugs nice and is comfy (but the doors are thin..LOL). We've suffered through enough generations of contortionist cars, dictated by a styling paradigm that is out of date (low rooflines).

i was born in 68. Every version of Chevy pickup/truck I've grown up with still looks very tasteful and fresh to me. Chevy always does a nice restrained job with their trucks. I think Ford needs to watch out and the Dodge trucks look completely silly now these days.

whatever. i'm so tired of all this shock journalism. the press needs to get a life.

i like the element but its interior cheapness, horrible mpg, lack of power, and user unfriendly seat belt setups bug me. i love the bed/seats but they ought to make the seats pull out entirely or fold into the floor. I would ease up on the boxiness of the front windshield. the rear needs to stay boxy to accomodate cargo. i think the element is much more useful than a PT Cruiser but they need to fix the seat belt issue in the rear and pretty up the interior some. the vehicle needs to lose 200 pounds, gain a real motor too.

good job. once folks see these things en masse out in the streets, the whole PR effect of this car will start to trickle in. The image boost for Pontiac and GM will be huge, but its full effect will take many months and likely 2-3 years.

that's an optimistic view. NOT Americans are strong and creative enough and are willing to weed through all the crap to create the style of life they want or are used to. There will be bumps in the road, but we as a country are not willing to lead depressionist style lives ever again. And we shouldn't have to.

imagine if that new DI turbo solstice GXP motor was put in the Lotus cars instead of that crappy Toyo/Yama motor. I cannot believe Yamaha lowered itself to work with Toyota on a project.
-
let the asians knock themselves bloody up concentrating on each other. that will leave GM in the weeds to not worry about who is making the most bland cars. I would love to see the Korean automakers off our shores already.

VEGA! lol...........

all saturns are going up the ladder in price to VW and Honda territory.

that IS the big question.

my 89 SHO, about that size. A light DOHC v6 with BALLS like that, front drive for winter, or some type of AWD. the 5 speed manual was fine, but an extra overdrive to make the other 5 more useful in town would be fine. some sort of device to take over for your left leg clutch foot in traffic so you could walk along like an automatic would be fine, or a twin clutch or automated manual for when you don't want to deal with it. curb weight around 3300 pounds or so. otherwise a straight six RWD based AWD with manual tranny and such, just like a BMW! with the same clutch feature. i do admit, a hybrid on electric power when stuck in bad traffic is appealing. but not in a Toyota (read: ugly and Japanese) wrapper. a direct injection super or turbo charged version would be cool too. C/D had a test of the 1 series BMW diesel. with a stick that would rock! the damn tiny thing had 250 lb ft of torque! a diesel sports sedan that got 35 mpg regularly with balls would be a huge hit for me! i would be Zygi with flex fuel or bio fuel too.

"I have not been as impressed with a new GM vehicle in 15-plus years of covering the industry and test-driving new cars." that includes CORVETTES my friends. "Inside, there's an interior you simply will not believe until you open the door and see for yourself. If this truck is an indicator of GM's commitment to clawing its way back to the top, then it's time to load up on GM stock while it's cheap. It's stunning. It has the look and feel of an expensive high-end import, from the shape and materials used to create the elegant dash array to the aluminum door sill trim plates to the deliberate slightly concave sculpting of all the panels, including the driver and passenger seat backs, to give the occupants just that extra smidgen of room" GM gets the last laugh. for now. let's see toyota match this. I'd love for them to take the trailblazer, reskin it and duplicate the tahoe interior.
