  1. first long trip in awhile. I had hoped for two things, one- to be sure the 2x oil leak fix was going to stick two- now that weather has improved, and we're out of the stupid winter gas phase, i wanted to see what mpg we can get since the ECM fix and blow some carbon out of the motor. I have to go back and tab my fill notes, as i have kept track of each fuel fill for the last 10 months and the car surpassed 10,000 on the way home today. Overall average on DIC is about 30.6 or 30.7, not bad considering the EPA estimated combined is 31. So Chevy's claims are consistent. Some follies on the way up too see mom, I had filled with a mix of non-oxy 91 and mid grade 89 (which would have enthanol) and BOY the car DID NOT like it. I have repeatedly demonstrated that this little 1.5 really REALLY prefers 87 octane gas. And is programmed to behave mostly well on the ethanol laced E10 garbage. I had a check engine light come on after about 60 miles? and I pulled off at a station to top off with plain E10 87 after when i saw the check engine light i also got an OnStar email. After the top off it took awhile (couple hundred more miles) but then the check engine finally came off. Coolant temp gauge was rock solid same place the whole time. The OnStar email said the vehicle dianostic was something about emissions. In my 10,000 mile history with the car I can tell you that strangely enough this engine really really prefers run of the mill 87 octane whatever the crap they make em sell kind of gas. Do not waste your time or bother with premium. I had been pulling about 38 mpg on the juiced blend until the CEL and then after the top off the mpg dropped to around 34. Driving through plains stiff head winds did not help. On the way back, the headwinds were even more brutal and temps were freezing as i filled the tank this am with regular 87 octane non ethanol. I couldn't get much more than 33.5 or 34 until halfway through my trip home and then magically the instant mpg's kept jumping. The outside temp was warming and even though the wind was dying some it was still fairly strong. I made great use of drafting trucks and others, and GM's amazing precise tap up and tap down cruise control allowed me to benefit from others taking the brunt. I would imagine my whole trip average speed was high sixties. In the last 100 miles of the trip I really say a big jump and the last 40 miles or so were more at 60-65 mph rather than 70-75 mph. I ended up with a 36.1 average on the tank but the big achievement was i managed to coax it to an all new high on the '50 mile best'. I was able to get it to pull 46.7 mpg for a 50 mile stretch right before getting home, and i surpassed my previous best of 46.5. I was happy about that, and there was quite a bit of traffic - even if it wasn't stop and go. Thing is imagine if the whole tank could have pulled 42-43 mpg? I think it could of. Now, my A/C was not on so that is a caveat. But the fact that I could improve from 33-34 and be pulling over 46 mpg by the end of the tank shows you the big jekyll and hyde nature of these motors. In winter it was tough getting 25 mpg sometimes.
  2. 4x4 plus stick, it suits you.
  3. i am of the mindset that the weight balance with a v6 and all that plumbing may be way off unless it has the AWD hardware to balance the front to back out. I can tell you (from the Malibu) that the car is LIGHT and the Regal will be similarly light when comparing the 2.0 Malibu and 2.0 regal. The 2.0 in the Malibu feels significantly heavier on the front end vs. the 1.5 and a v6 would feel even heavier still. The AWD hardware probably does as much to help balance the chassis as anything. My guess is that even a well engineered lighter v6 with turbo plumbing would still present a challenge for them to tune the suspension for balanced feel.
  4. Gm's problem is that even with how good the bolt and bolt are, they are both too small for what ever would be volume sales. Electrics will need to become plug in to take off en masse. Gm's should really move plug ins to the larger core vehicles.
  5. GM crammed a 5.3 litre v8 in a W-body. Its probably a case of 'we haven't made it fit YET'. It would behoove GM to develop something like Ford's 2.7 v6 that can be fit into a wider range of product. I'm no engineer, but i would guess the difference in physical size between a v6 and turbo v6 has more to do with space for all the plumbing atop the block and heads.
  6. drove one once, did not like it a bit.
  7. agree. 3.0tt would be perfect. 3.6 a good mid range motor but lack of torque an issue. i would expect the sedan to hit here eventually but i would have no problem with a hatch on this car. or the wagon if it were de cladded.
  8. a friend recently bought a titan diesel and took it back the next day. some of these states like mine mandating certain percent of biodiesel (i.e. government mandated spiked fuel). Friend's Titan specfically mentioned warranty is void if too great percent of biodiesel. Some of these other Euro diesels have limits as well. My guess is with the stupidity of select states creating warranty hazards for potential new buyers, why would you even try to bring any more over on expensive rigs like this.>?
  9. these newer lincoln interiors really are rotten bad
  10. I walk along the Avenir. I never thought I'd meet a girl like yeouuuuuu, meet a girl like yyyeeeeoooooouuu still hope we get something real Avenir someday
  11. stupid Buick thinks because they copped out on doing the real Avenir that they can just pilfer the name as a trim package and redeem themselves. overall this is nicely done though. Doesn't have some of the awkwardness of the new Traverse. And, manages to look a lot still like the current Enclave. Even has some side sculpting that is similar to the new LaCrosse. That is kind of amazing by itself. Ties some of the Buick products together. Interesting dash but i hope the plastics are better than what i see on some live auto show pics in the pictures. Sounds like it still has room and space, at least they didn't get rid of that. really should have a twin turbo six option. This and the new Traverse should help GM a lot.
  12. i had a 43 mile commute for about 3 years. On bad weather days it really consumed my life. otherwise, it was generally fatiguing. But the moment you move closer to work then the work goes bye bye or something crazy like that.
  13. The Regal should be lighter and should reduce what you speak of compared to an Explorer, but your observations are on track. Using the Malibu as a reference, i didn't feel either 4 had much lag but have driven turbos with more lag so i understand your point. I have no complaints about turbo lag in my 1.5. GM did a great job with the torque curve, even if there is not much of it due to engine size. It would be nice if they tested it more before they put it out there (the oil leaks and ECM fix). I actually should go find a Fusion sport to test drive. I really do feel with the light weight of the new Regal chassis, a 2.5-3.0 v6 even detuned to 350hp as suggested + nice torque band would make for a very entertaining ride for a Regal. I think the cost aspect is a bit overrated. Ford is putting twin turbo six in pickups, and other sub 40 out the door vehicles. It really is as much GM loves to overprice their vehicles for padding. I think GM if they really invested in a decent mill used in many vehicles would have no trouble making coin with a v6 turbo. Just because a CT6 twin turbo is 70k does not mean a buick needs to be 60k. turbos are not new. v6's are not new.
  14. Stop start works mostly ok in the malibu. I actually love it when it shuts off if the weather is good. they need to work to get rid of the typical starter noise when it restarts. Its not super annoying but when you have windows down or its operating a lot where that noise the starter makes quite honestly gets on your nerves. Fine if you hear it once when you start your car, but when you just are going to pick up milk and it does it ten times it really sounds cheap and crappy. Still, in the end of it all, I WANT A SWITCH TO TURN IT OFF< IF I DESIRE.
  15. Don't foot the bill on a subcompact if its priced too high. But chevy is giving leases away on these things recently. I don't think one need feel guilty about leasing when your lease payment might be less than what you pay on interest and taxes if you put it on a long loan (and lose 60% of MSRP if you try to trade it in 3 years). Then you can get some kit on your compact and not get gouged. Thats where the Premier comes in. Get some options.
  16. Fusion sport 2.7v6 far cheaper than caddy
  17. Fusion sport 2.7v6 far cheaper than caddy
  18. Hopefully the insistence of ridiculous cafe increases will get beat back for awhile. 2.0 t 4 pot is a great choice but should only be the base mill in any Buick. Gm's done well with 4t but the advantage of a 6 is smoother engine
  19. Wrong. Sitting inside the new lacrosse, it doesn't have much room. When all is said and done, lacrossE only has a smudge more real space. Impala is going to have the edge in space on both. It'd be much better with 2 more cylinders (turbo 4 Malibu driver speaking) Gm's six pot has no torque. Never has and in the new Acadia it doesn't either (I know the Acadia is still porky) v6 turbo option would lend some upmarket cred to buick
  20. It probably has the v6, maybe because the new GM crossovers with the fancy AWD and the lacrosse have the 3.6 mated to that new system. IMO don't call it a GS unless it has a TURBO VEE SIX. why not the 3.0 TT?
  21. EXCEPT THIS ONE HAS NO CLADDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's the sign of a 'data driven' marketing department. Reacting to trends and not creating a trend, this is a wagon that actually has the sex, and instead, the dipshits at GM throw cladding on it.
  22. the seats in the picture look to be 98% the same as the malibu, which i can tell you are not terribly comfy, lack cushion and have bad back shaping. very un comfy at times. I actually would endorse people step up to an Impala from a Malibu for no other reason than better better seats in the Impala. the more heavily bolstered seats in my post above could very well be optional seats, but they look substantively different, akin to GS seats vs. regular seats in the current Regal. Not sensing 'premium' options available here. Until we find out more. Not even a stinking pattern in the leather, or anything else interesting looking about the regal seats here.
