Spinal Tap quotes Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and... Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten? Nigel Tufnel: Exactly. Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder? Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where? Marty DiBergi: I don't know. Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do? Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven. Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder. Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder? Nigel Tufnel: [pause] These go to eleven

I might as well just link to the whole page. I've had these committed to memory for like 15 years now WHMS quotes Harry Burns: With whom did you have this great sex? Sally Albright: I'm not going to tell you that. Harry Burns: Fine, don't tell me. Sally Albright: Shel Gordon. Harry Burns: Shel? Sheldon? No, no, you did not have great sex with Sheldon. Sally Albright: I did too. Harry Burns: No you didn't. A Sheldon can do your income taxes, if you need a root canal, Sheldon's your man... but humpin' and pumpin' is not Sheldon's strong suit. It's the name. 'Do it to me Sheldon, you're an animal Sheldon, ride me big Shel-don.' Doesn't work.

a straight like me enjoys a woman haircutter for more than the cut, although there's usually not much upstairs in dem girls; but its the occasional 'rub' that can compensate for the 25% chance of a bad haircut.

well, eloquently said, 'AND THAT TOO!' this whole FIT fiasco is honda speculating the US market off of favorable otherworld press only. This is like the Mazda 5 (which BTW is a much better box). Honda, like mazda, is taking the chance on federalizing what will be a really low volume model for them here, at a price more expensive than it should be, but knowing that they will snag 10,000-20,000 buyers who want the unique Asian product 'from the other side of the pond'. We don't know if they will make money on it but these are exactly the sort of niche products which will generate buzz from the owners and take a few sales away from competitors. The uniqueness of them are image builders and i guess that contributes to 'building a brand'. Honda will do this with their motorcycles also. At least the Fit fits into their mold of past products like older Civics. I'll at least give Mazda credit on the 5, it does fill a market void with the sliding doors (old Expo and Axxess owners are jumping for joy). But Mazda would have served the masses better by bringing the all new MPV over here as well then, also. next mazda mpv To me they should have waited for the next gen Fit, or, they should have made it at least 130hp for the US Market and kept the price down. But really, to me this just shows their failure to offer the new Civic in a useful hatchback form, which is what folks really want. Instead, they take the Civic upmarket as some sort of 'starter luxury car' (which its not by the way) and so it goes. Of course, there's a lot of morons out there. Folks will pay more for a Mazda3 than a Mazda 6, and probably some more morons are paying more for their new Civics than they would a similarly equipped 4 cyl. Accord. Oh well.

PT sales are actually up these days. I like the PT but now to me the whole retro cute cargo box thing is so passe.

Jeeses, two weeks ago i spent all sorts of time explaining why the Fit is a waste. that's before I even saw the price, and now I am convinced its a bigger rip off than ever. No style, no substance, no power. too much $$$$$. Well, God bless Honda if they get enough dumbasses to fork over 15 large for 100 horsepower and a crackerbox frame and cheesy dash. Want a fuel sipper, get a Yaris, you'll save money and its far cooler. The quality of the Yaris compared to the Fit is immensely different. Want the sporty tall box? Aerio. 50 more hp, less money, more fun, more solid, handles great. Or, go cheaper and get a Reno or Forenza wagon for the same horsepower. Just want a compact with decent mpg and better all around for probably less money? Cobalt, Focus. A basic G6 is only about a grand more. Aveo is much less expensive. The 07 is quite improved. Versa, Sentra. Accent. Rio. Base PT. Base Caliber. Base HHR. Just need to carry stuff? A base FWD outlander will hold more, go faster and likely cost as much and is not a crackerbox.

my ford had a 500 dollar lease incentive and free leather off msrp. that's not 4,500 bucks.
-
incentives are merely 'market adjustments'. what this means to me is the loser tundra is overpriced or not as many people want one (i.e. they overproduced and made too many). a lot of times incentives are merely adjustments to compensate for MSRP's that were too high.....like with GM before they starting trimming margins and MSRP's

let me get this straight. it's ok for toyota to gash 5 grand off sticker. but its not for GM. do i have this correct?
-
You're not on something, are you?

lexus ES are quintissential rich old chick cars. that and RX's......

autoblog "According to Edmunds.com, Toyota spent on average $4,485 in incentives on each Tundra its dealers sold last month"

I Know! It just makes you smile. Lexus tried so hard too........honestly, Toyo has pulled out almost all stops with all the new Lexus cars and I am just rolling, because BMW just puts out these cars effortlessly and they remain so pure. The Lexus is really an engineering solution. Engineers merely solve a problem but have no interest in adding a human component to the solution. The Lexus might have fantastic numbers or tech specs, but the Lexus almost exists in its own world, without the driver. The BMW exists FOR the driver. Toyota is so based on engineering and 'logic' and prblem solving, their process and business culture must not allow for emotional things to enter into any of their cars. When it comes down to it, Toyota would rather care about trimming 3 days out of average production time to make a widget....BMW's company vision is to produce cars drivers enjoy. Toyota is simply a manufacturing company. Their goals are more about process. BMW's its about the cars and the drivers.

nah, i just think that Hyundais are less than the real deal still. Folks are suckered into them due to the cheaper price and warranty. Both very good things, but it sets up the public and reviewers to expect less from them, which then works in their favor when they exceed the expectation, even if they are not class leading. So we get all f*cking excited when the third world produces a car that's doesn't completely suck like the last Sonata and use the cheap price and mondo warranty to let them off the hook for not producing equal product to the 'gotta have' cars. face it, no one in their right minds desires this car on its own merits. You want it because its cheaper and you get more $h! for the price. Its an all new design. You get all this $h! for all this price. Last I checked, GM gets continually ripped for selling stuff at discounts. Yet i do agree these Hyundai products are defintely more ahead of comparable domestics, don't all fricking kid yourself into thinking these cars are as good as TL's, Avalons, Camry's, Accords, Passats, because they are not there yet. People are just wet in the shorts because Hyundai is hitting a sweet sport of selling lots of stuff for cheap and doing a better job then the unrefined domestic crap they have only been able to afford in the past. Or, the folks who got sick of spending big money on Toyotas, somehow think they are getting a car as good as a Toyota for a domestic price and outsmart everybody. I sure hope Hyundai is backing that up by sending Consumer Reports lots of checks. If CR ever turns on Hyundai, look out, they will not conquest Toyota buyers then. Take Hyundai's price out of the equation.........class for class, they still are not class leading and they just simply do not embarass themselves anymore. Anyone who aspires to own a new Azera, or Sonata when so many other better choices for similar money are around, is extremely puzzling to me. Let's all fricking cut ot the chase, you still want a Hyundai because its a DEAL, and to me that's the ultimate in hypocrisy. We rip Gm for giving deals and put Hyundai on a pedestal for giving them away. Last I talked to someone in the used car business, Hyundai and Kia still had terrible resale and trade in value as well. They better hope flooding the market doesn't keep it low.

in America we love to build something up and sensationize it (GM, Britney Spears) and then tear it all apart with rampant fervor (GM, Britney Spears- although SHE deserves it). Then, if we have some pity left after they hit rock bottom, it makes for a great feel good back from the ashes again sort of story. We want to build things up/knock em down into complete failure and then provide the mercy and let them breathe again. The press is simply going to keep the pressure on until something breaks at GM. I don't think bankruptcy alone will be enough of a story for them. They will want bankruptcy and a major destruction of American lives and GM as a viable company. Then, once they succeed in tearing GM to shred and ruining millions of lives, GM will consist as a cutesy boutique car maker and we'll all be driving Geelys, Kias, and whatver else the folks in china, Korea, Malaysia, and India can conjure up. Since GM is being destroyed, toyota is being built up. In fairness, their product quality is quite good and it is fair to praise Toyota for that. However, the press' attention to all things Toyota has gone beyond absurd (not even Honda gets 20% the favorable press of Toyota anymore) and has become a self prophecizing deal......a 'mania' if you will. The spread is not that huge to warrant the extreme glorification. But, I do think there will come a day where public opinion may turn and things could unravel for them. An unforseen recall, a massive shift in global trade and currency issues, or an uprising of 'patriotism', all those things could turn Toyos fortunes on a dime. But Toyota is smart, they want to get so big and so engrained to the point where thye do indeed monopolize people's minds. They want to grow to the point that everyone just gives in to them being so huge and established....like tide detergent, or Coca Cola.......so that people never even think of them as what they really are...a Japanese company waging ecnomic and cultural warfare on us. Now if we allow it to happen, then we become part of their culture and such. I guess it depends what everyone wants. What bothers me is that the leadership at Ford and Gm seem utterly clueless on how to get ballsy and say 'enough is enough'. Or they are simply too hamstrung by their own size and past.....labor contracts, pensions, organizational structure. Maybe they have to be destroyed to be able to even function in the future. Part of the thing we all forget is that Gm and ford are losing market share all the time, but you have to remember, the amount of brands and models sold by other makes has increased exponentially in 20 years and the big three have reduced brands and models significantly. There is a far less percentage of choice of products with an American brand on it than before and it keeps declining with each new import model introduced. So the war exists not only in the press but in sheer marketing angles.....the imports increase products and domestics decrease. People want new. The domestics don't produce 'new' as often as they need to anymore. That's as much or more the reasons for their faliure than anything else. And that's management's fault....even with the unreasonable labor contracts. Case in point.....if Buick had 4 all new models coming out this year instead of just lucerne for like 2 years...well DUH which is gonna get more positive press? Look at Toyota.......their entire Lexus car lineup is new within the last 12-18 months it seems.....and the Camry, Prius, RAV, Avalon, Tundra, and other hybrids all new within the same time period. If GM is not ready to go to war on that kind of product offensive, than they should shut down the doors and give up being a volume manufacturer.

I WANTED ONE OF THOSE REALLY BAD WHEN I WAS GROWING UP!!!!! STILL LOVE THOSE FASTBACKS! They were like Citations but more interesting.

I came out of the grocery store tonight and lo and behold, a brand new yellow Z06. I swear, the feeling, it was like having sex for the first time again. All polished, yellow contrasted against the darkness of night. MY OH MY that rear end looks good! I complimented the passenger who was getting in. "NICE car,!" I said......the reply was, "It's FAST! VERY fast...." Ah, the day I became a man........

could be why they showed the ass first....maybe?

my prizm (corolla) was a 99 model, i think it had 1.8l/125hp and vvt. in any case, it might be the same or darn close to the same that is in the vibe and corolla still today. i had a 5 speed stick also.

from what I recall my dad always saying about the GM diesels was that the head bolts were not capable of handling the strain of the diesel motor and that mostly it was the headbolts that went on them.
